I think those are all great examples. I don't have any other examples to offer. Rachel put it out as a suggestion for a new swap and I thought it sounded like a fun idea. I guess I'd define funky neighborhood as any type of building done anyway you'd like. I'd think that houses, barns, churches, schools, castles (or even sandcastles), could be included. Dog houses, bird houses . . . ? I'm very open for ideas. We could do like with the chickens and keep it open for funky colors/patterns or if it was preferred, we could narrow down the color scheme to something more specific such as rustic, muted, homey type colors. I'm open for any suggestions. Is this kind of along the lines you were thinking when you suggested it, Rachel? Anybody have any other thoughts/ideas/preferences? Just in the brainstorming process here. Would love more input!

Soooooooo, do you mean types of people homes and/or animal/fish/bird homes??

I certainly agree that the size variation and the sets of 6 are my #1 choice now, thanks to Patti! More control on the amount of personal commitment.

Or do you want to limit it to people type homes only??

I have no idea! LOL! I've been mulling it all over this afternoon and think I got a bit carried away earlier. :lol: :lol: In thinking about a whole quilt, I'd prefer to nix the animal abodes. Again, I'm just thinking out loud here. Everybody's input is really helpful so please don't be shy. I won't be offended if someone says they think these are really dorky ideas I've had. LOL. :lol: Okay, so a couple of other thoughts:

Like you just said, Maine, stick to people houses. There are plenty of pieced house blocks available in books or probably online. Applique could also be done. There are many options for people houses: log cabin, cottage, bungalow, pueblo, saltbox, high rise, . . . .

Dr. Seuss type houses could be fun Patti. Do you think those would be easy to do either pieced or appliqued? I'm having a brain block on how to do those but am certainly up to exploring the idea.

Or, if this isn't too limiting, we could select one pieced house block for everyone to do with whatever fabrics they choose - similar to the Happy Scrappy Houses quilt mentioned above (I think it was the quiltville.com website). That's a really cute quilt and would be fun to make too.

Another possibility is to scrap the funky neighborhood idea and see what the interest is in another area. A while back there was interest in pigs, funky fish, and some others. I don't want anyone to feel like I've made a group decision here on what the next swap will be. Ideas, ideas, ideas???

I love the idea of a funky house....maybe a funky village with shops, and other things....hmmmm. This could be really fun! A mutlicolor town!! You would be able to different size blocks like the chickens!

Hmmm Sew, any of the ideas will work out I think. Houses can be made as simply as just sewing squares together...easy breezy!

The funky village is a cool twist too!

Don't worry about thinking you are making decisions for a group...people here aren't really all that shy about voicing opinions...or haven't you noticed????? :lol: :lol: :lol:

Still, the funky houses swap sounds great! Although, I would come up with 3 variations of houses so the "neighborhood" doesn't look identical. Just my opinion. BTW, I like the funky village idea as well.

Hmmm...just thinking out loud...we could limit the house size to use in a border....then have other sizes of blocks for the "village" which would go in the center of the quilt..... :?:

This might give you some more ideas for a swap.

I would not be at all interested in doing the happy scrappy houses as I have about 50 of them to get in a quilt someday but I might be tempted with something like this. It is huge. Goes from the ceiling to almost the floor.
