This is a swap for funky dogs. By funky, we mean that it can be a silly pattern, a regular pattern made up in unexpected colors, a great dog fabric fussy cut......anything that is fun will work for this swap. We want to end up with some really fun and whimsical quilts! The intent is to have a great time!

The swap is open to all experience levels. Please take the time to read the “General rules for swaps” http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

Blocks can be any size that is divisible by 3" (plus seam allowances). They can be square, or rectangular. They may be pieced, paper pieced, appliquéd, painted, embellished…anything goes! Please keep in mind that all appliquéd blocks MUST have the pieces sewn down in some manner and that “plain” fabric blocks (just cut up squares), while appreciated to share with other swappers, WILL NOT count as “swap” blocks.

Blocks will be swapped in sets of 6. 1 set = 6 blocks. You may make as many sets as you would like to receive back. Note: limit of 2 sets of 3” blocks per swapper.

**Please note that we will be swapping out all 6 blocks, and you will not be getting one of your own back. If you'd like one of your blocks you will need to make an extra.

Blocks should be mailed to me in a ziploc baggie inside an envelope, with your name and board name on each individual block. You need to include a Flat Rate envelope with postage on it for me to send your return blocks. The return blocks probably will be be different sizes than ones you sent in and postage is difficult to figure out, therefore, the Flat Rate envelopes work very well. If you would like Delivery confirmation, please include the cost to cover that as well.

Sign-up deadline is August 1, 2011. Please only sign up when your blocks are done and ready to mail. Mail blocks to me no later than August 15, 2011. Please PM me for my address. Blocks will then be swapped and mailed out by August 31, 2011. International swappers are welcome, please keep in mind the difference in mailing times.

Mary O 05-17-2011 03:17 AM

I wanna do this...

ruthruff3 05-17-2011 04:18 AM

My golden retriever and scottie said "Mom, you have to do this one!" So.... count me in! My cats laughed at them and said "Yeah but they did the cat swap first so cats still rule!" Whatever am I going to do with these furry children of mine????!!!

sandpat 05-17-2011 04:47 AM

Oh, ya'll are too funny! Well, you know we'll have to add a border to the cat quilt that says "Cats Rule, dogs drool!"...

Who has a good saying for the border of the dog quilt???

Oh, not only are you quick Veronica, those are some great sayings!

purplemem 05-17-2011 06:41 AM

Patti,
this one is for me!
I've marked it so I can hear the feedback and REMEMBER to do this!

debs 05-17-2011 07:00 AM

Well, with 24 dogs at home, I would say I really need to do this one, so I'm going to try, but will hold off signing up to the last minute to be sure I get the blocks made!
I have loads of doggy material & patterns that I really want to use, so I guess I had better get started.

I do hope I can get some done for this swap, it sounds like so much fun!

Should all the blocks be identical or different? I kind of think it is a choose yourself, but I'm just checking.

Debs

LovingIzabella 05-17-2011 10:16 AM

Oh I have been waiting for a doggy swap.....will have to see what I can come up with before I commit.
Hugs
April

pab58 05-17-2011 10:23 AM

YIKES!!!  24 dogs??!!!!  OMGoodness!!! You HAVE to do the Funky Dawg Swap!!!!! If you don't, your doggies will NEVER forgive you!!! Wll, they might if you bribe them with food.....or toys........or treats........well, okay, they will forgive you, but they will love you even more if you do the Dawg Swap!!!

debs 05-17-2011 10:37 AM

yes,
And they do certainly forgive my shortcomings, but I'm gonna try to do this, just to keep my artistic mind active, from all the work I do that stresses me.

Debs

QuilterMomma 05-17-2011 10:38 AM

I am in this one. Did the chickens, cats, and now dogs. I have already purchased the fabric and will get on them in July after I finish van quilt, graduation, child to college, and vacation. By then will be set. I do have them picked out, just getting the time to sit down and do in between life and boomerang blocks. At least the last moment for those is inlate July so have some time there.

bookworm 05-17-2011 04:50 PM

Hmmm might do this one since the deadline is so far out :)

sandpat 05-17-2011 05:42 PM

Oh goodie!!!! yes, all you doggie lovers need to commit! LOL! I set the deadline pretty far out there so that we can do a few sets just in our "spare" time...you ALL have some of that...right???

MJ....so happy that you will play!!

Debs, yes, with the 24...I think you need to (just in case they hear about it and gang up on you!! )

April...hope you can find the time! It will be a fun one!

QuilterMomma...LOL...I'll put you down!

saraaev 05-17-2011 05:48 PM

Jennifer22206 05-17-2011 05:49 PM

I'm on the fence.. maybe for me

jetnica 05-17-2011 06:01 PM

Sign me up for two sets of appliqué blocks. (total of 12 blocks)

:D

cattailsquilts 05-17-2011 06:02 PM

Oh dear, you're gonna be the death of me! LOL I counted up an additional 10 items added to my already long WIP list, and now you want 6 doggie blocks, too? <sigh> ;-)

sandpat 05-17-2011 06:11 PM

LOL....I know cat...but they are such fun!!!

Jet..Great to have you! I'll add you to the list!

Sara..Fun, fun!!! I'll put you down

Jennifer..hope you find the time, its shaping up to be a really fun one!

sandpat 05-17-2011 07:56 PM

Debs , I forgot to say that you can make your set the same...or you
can do different blocks. For me, it's easier to do them the same. It's
like an assembly line. Also, when people want the block, it's nice
to have more than just the 1 to swap. Make sense?

turtlerouge 05-18-2011 06:52 AM

ok, sign me up. I love to see my cats and dogs getting along so well on top of my bed.

sign me up, Pat~! Please

LovingIzabella 05-18-2011 08:24 AM

Can there be dimension in the blocks? (I mean if I want floppy ears can I make them or do they have to be flat blocks?)
Hugs

QuilterMomma 05-18-2011 09:22 AM

Well, in celebration of the Funky Dog Swap starting, I decided to take my toy poodle for a ride this am when taking kids to school. Boy did he whine when they left the car without him. Disappointment for the poor boy.

jetnica 05-18-2011 03:10 PM

=( I have to bow out (already!!) too many projects to do. =(

if i get enough done by aug 1 I'll sign back up! =)

sandpat 05-18-2011 04:27 PM

so glad we're getting into this with 3d, i tried to talk my dh into a dog yesterday, that's the first time i saw him get p.o'd. i want a dog too.
working on this one

QuilterMomma 05-19-2011 07:15 AM

I have been working for two years for another dog to give my little guy a friend again. Two years ago we lost his wife, my best friend and companion next to my husband, and I have been lonley ever since. There is a spot they fill. Cuddles was my dog. She would snuggle up with me when I had bad pain days and never leave my side. She would even defend me when the kids and husband would wrestle with me in fun. She always new when I was in a sad mood or happy. Miss her. Jasper, my little whiner, is good, but one of my daughters is his favorite. I think he just wanted to hang with the girls instead of really attending school. Summer break coming, he will have them all day.
