Funky House Block Swap - Signup Closes 15 Apr 2012

Funky House Block Swap

Block Swap with the block sets in sets of 3
The signups are open now and will close February 28, 2012. The deadline to have them here to me is April 15th.

The block images can be anything associated with a house it can be a bird house a regular house even an outhouse. They can be regular pieced, paper pieced, applique or embroidery.

The swap is open to all levels of quilters. Please use 100 percent good quality COTTON fabrics that are prewashed. I understand that if you are using pre-cuts (jellyrolls, charm packs) that is impossible. Just let me know when you send the blocks so I can advise the receiver (s).

Please make your blocks before you sign up for this swap. To re-cap ... The signups will close on February 28 and the blocks should be to me by the assigned deadline (April 15) or unfortunately they will have to be returned to you unswapped. This makes it fair to the others who are in the swap.

Please pm me and I will give you the address of where to mail them. Please send me a pm telling me how many sets you are trading ( this can be approximate if you increase or need to for some reason decrease the number of sets.)

The finished block size can be any size block divisible by threes. Don't forget the seam allowances!! Please! So the smallest 3 inch finished block would be a 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 Unfinished and so on. (The size of a send- in block will have the half inch seam allowances included ) For example... The send in unfinished sizes can be 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 , 3 1/2 x 6 1/2 , 3 1/2 x 9 1/2, 3 1/2 x 12 1/2. The max sized block is 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" .

*** Please note. One set of 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch blocks per swapper!! It is not fair to others to send more than that.

Please do not send just a cut piece of fabric as a block. It won't count towards your block sets and would have to be returned to you. Remember make something you would like to receive!

*This swap will be for sets of 3 blocks. The limit is 4 sets per swapper, please. The 4 sets do not have to be all the same. And it is possible that you will not get the exact same sizes back that you sent. Also, please note, you could or could not be getting any of your blocks back, so if you wish to have one of your blocks, please make another for yourself if you really like your blocks.

Please attach your board name to each block with a pin,or sew it inside the seam allowance or even staple it to the very edge in the seam allowance. You can use address labels attached to the inside but be sure they don't fall off I have found some fall off to easily. Please do not use sticky notes unless they are pinned on , they fall off and are hard to keep them with the blocks while swapping.

Please no muslin as a background.
Just remember, if you are doing applique, you must sew it to the blocks in such a way that it is washable later. You can't just iron it on.

*Mail your block sets to me in a priority flat rate envelope using only a postage stamp (stamps)on both the return envelope and enclose postage for the return envelope I can get the return envelope. So please use a stamp! Inside... self addressed flat rate priority label in with the postage stamp (s) attached along with your individually bagged and marked block sets. Address it to yourself and use your address as the return. That way there is no question where it is coming back to.

Should you have any questions or problems please contact me by pm. A person can opt out if there is a problem with getting the blocks here to swap on time. Life sometimes gets busy and I understand.

Please read all the general swap rules of the board, these also apply to this swap.
They are located on the top of the swap board written by the administration. Or, here is the link ...

can't wait to see them I thought of something else lighthouses

maine ladybug 01-11-2012 12:31 PM

Oh this will be fun!! Is it okay to make several sets of 3 and have them be all different sizes? Like 3 that are 3 1/2 X 3 12, 3 that are 6 1/2 X 6 1/2, etc. From the way I read it that's okay. Now to start thinking about blocks....

Lv2sew2011 01-11-2012 02:01 PM

I'm in....will look around to see what I can come up with...

rwquilts 01-11-2012 03:18 PM

Oh how funny! A friend and I were just talking yesterday how a house block swap could be fun! I will look around and see what patterns I might find...this sounds interesting. Will bookmark this!

Crafty3790 01-11-2012 04:24 PM

This sounds like so much fun. I'm going to start working on my blocks this weekend. :) I fell in love with all the funky neighborhood blocks. I'm so glad you picked up this swap. I'm so excited. I'm trying to figure out what I want to make. :) Thank you Crafty3790!!

Crafty3790 01-11-2012 08:11 PM

Here's a cool blog that does scrap houses. Just hit translate. She also gives away patterns and has some great people she follows.

Very cool. Thanks for the link.

Annaquilts 01-11-2012 10:48 PM

I am planning to join in also.
Sofar I have been looking at house block ideas but I have not yet locked in.

BarbaraSue 01-12-2012 11:45 AM

This sounds like fun. I plan to join in also.
Ok, I have a silly question. I make 3 blocks to send in. The blocks can be any size multiple of 3 with the seam allowances. Does each group of three blocks I send have to be the same size? Or do you mean I can mix sizes with the three blocks? Do dog houses also count into this? thanks.

Crafty3790 01-12-2012 11:53 AM

They don't need to be the same size the only thing is your only allowed 3 3 1/2 x 3 1/2. Dog houses would work as long as everyone agrees.
so everyone what do you think?

Crafty3790 01-12-2012 12:02 PM

We are up to 11 people already this is going to be fun.

maine ladybug 01-12-2012 02:41 PM

Personally I'm not wild about the dog houses. But if others want them then don't worry about it. Some people may not want bird houses or some other type, so I guess I would be fine with anything.

Crafty3790 01-12-2012 03:09 PM

3 Attachment(s)
OK so how about we limit how many each one makes of a kind like doghouses or birdhouses and if someone absolutely don't want a certain houses them pm me I will make a note to be sure they don't get it.

Her is a house I made and ones I got from Abonda and Lynnie one is a hen house but its really cool. Mine is the traditional one.

I need to see if I can get the blocks done in time before I sign up. Do not want to pressure myself anymore than I am already. i have to finish some UFOs before I sign up  But will do my best. This sounds like fun.

If is same to you, I would prefer to keep all human type houses.

It also occurred to me to ask are these going to be funky or more practical?

Crafty3790 01-12-2012 03:52 PM

I wasn't going to do any more myself so I could finish some projects but I saw the log cabin design with the houses as the outer edge and decided I wanted to do that so its finishing one ufo and adding a new element.

I am more partial to human houses too. I am waiting to see the answer to the funky house question. I love funky but I have never made them that way but could maybe paper piece them.

BarbaraSue 01-13-2012 09:23 AM

I don't have a problem with limiting to only human houses if that is the best solution for everyone. I just wanted to know before I got too dog houses made.
Thanks, count me in.

Mariposa 01-13-2012 01:18 PM

I vote for funky! ;)

Judith1005 01-13-2012 02:21 PM

I love the funky house idea. But, I wouldn't mind mixing in regular and normal. But, I don't mind dog houses. But, I wouldn't want to receive back 3 dog houses. I'm acutally going to make 2 dog houses for my quilt. I have 2 dogs to represent. Whatever you decide, I don't mind.

sistahdebbra 01-13-2012 03:27 PM

Crafty, count me in for one set of three houses. I'm find with funky, wonky, traditional and dog, they all make up a neighborhood. Is there a sign-up sheet????

Crafty3790 01-13-2012 04:33 PM

I'm going to make a list of who is in it who wants only traditional let's stick to human houses. But funky and traditional. I also want to know if a person doesn't want embroidery. I'm going to post the people list on my blog but the other info will be on my personal iPad page for my eyes only.

Crafty3790 01-13-2012 04:57 PM

Tried to edit above post but was to late. Here's the results of your questions.

I'm going to make a list of who is in it look on my blog the list is there.
I will also keep track of those who want only traditional houses.

But funky and traditional. Dog houses can be fine because I would love to include bird houses but lets limit the amount of how many dog houses so we get more human then dog or bird houses.

I also want to know if a person doesn't want embroidery.

I'm going to post the people list on my blog but the other info will be on my personal iPad page for my eyes only.

So in my book of PP, I found a pattern for a quilt shoppe, will that count as a house of fabric? I would make those for this swap. I found about 10 other houses I can make. I know, I need to do my UFOs, but this book was just sitting on the floor waiting to be cleaned up and................ I will see if can get these done. I do have to use my scraps though if that is alright. I have two 55 gallon containers FULL!!! I cleaned up my garage again with all the bags in the house that were hiding and so have lots of scraps to use up. Love it though. n Let me know. I will put in my works of to dos by deadline.

Judith1005 01-14-2012 09:48 AM

Quilter Momma, That sounds so cool. Could you share the name and the author of the paper piece book you have. Am interested in looking it up on line.

A quilt shoppe sure sounds like an appropriate building to me.

lynnie 01-14-2012 11:11 AM

Crafty, so glad you're using the hen house in this project, will add a "cute" dimension to the project

QuilterMomma 01-14-2012 11:30 AM

The book is Better Homes and Gardens 505 Quilt Blocks plus 36 beautiful projects to make, mfg 2003.

Crafty3790 01-14-2012 01:54 PM

That would be awesome. I am going to use scraps too. It's perfect for this. Also some of the shapes just work so well. So can I sign you up?
Lynnie how are you? I thought the henhouse went great. How have you been feeling?

Judith1005 01-14-2012 02:55 PM

Thank you QuilterMomma. I actually have that book at home. (what are the odds of that!?) :)

QuilterMomma 01-15-2012 07:21 AM

I am not sure of what those odds are. You have some fun now.

Krisb 01-15-2012 07:40 PM

How about outhouses?

moonrise 01-16-2012 01:47 AM

This swap will be for sets of 3 blocks. The limit is 4 sets per swapper, please.

Just to make sure I'm reading correctly ...

The maximum number we can send is 12 blocks (4 sets of 3)?

Thanks!

(Don't sign me up just yet. I've got a lot going on with my birds (in-home aviary), and haven't even given the blocks any thought as of yet. :) )

Crafty3790 01-16-2012 04:44 AM

Outhouses how does everyone feel? Maybe if you can post a picture. I think so far most people are leaning toward human houses and maybe just a couple of different
As to amount as long as we have enough in the swap if you want to do 2 sets of 12 that would be fine.
