HOME DÉCOR SWAP #2 - entry closes April 19, 2013

For this partnered swap, the theme is HOME DÉCOR.

Signups close: April 19, 2013

Ship by date: June 17, 2013 (Delivery confirmation required)

How it works:

*This is a partnered swap for all skill levels.

*You will pick a room of your home in which you’d like a homemade quilted or quilt related surprise and give me your top 2 wish list items and your swap partner will decide on an item for you, but what item you'll receive will remain a secret until you get your package.

*Please make sure that all items have been prewashed and are machine washable on at least the gentle cycle, except wall hangings.

*All projects must include at least 2 different fabrics.

*if you prefer to receive something gender specific, please add that info to your selected room when you send your info.

*Partners will be completely random, outside of allergy concerns.

*PM me when you ship or receive your item

Suggestions for each room:

By all means you can pick anything else that goes in that room that you wish, and a wall hanging is appropriate for almost any room:

>Living room: Candle mats, pillow covers, remote holder, mug rugs

>Dining room: Placemats, table runner, hot pads

>Kitchen: Insulated teapot cover, bar runner, potholders/oven mitts, casserole carrier, can/mug cozy, apron, grocery totes

>Baby/Toddler (specify gender and age, if known): toys, burp cloths, bibs, busy books, play mats, car seat quilts, changing mats/kits

>Bathroom: Tank runner, candle mat, makeup bag, toiletry bag, decorative towels, travel jewelry bag

>Sewing room/Office: Scissor case, scraps/trash bag, sewing caddy, ironing board cover, mug rug

>Other: Tote bag, quilted purse, purse organizer, hand warmers, cell phone cover, eye/sunglass case, legal pad cover, checkbook cover

I am required to insist that participants send me a monthly PM to verify that they are still active in this swap and are working on their promised project.

I am required to insist that participants notify me as soon as they have finished their quilt and are ready to mail it.

Once I have received notice that both partners are done and ready to mail, I will send both a PM to let them know it’s time to mail.

I am required to insist that all participants send me verification of shipment, to include tracking information.

Participants are required to ensure packages will not arrive “postage due.”

Any and all other fees, such as import duties, taxes, etc imposed by the recipient’s government are the sole responsibility of the recipient.

Absent legitimate and reported mitigating circumstances, participants who have not fulfilled their obligation to ship by June 19, 2013 shall be deemed “late” and risk receiving Negative [Swap] Feedback.

Please keep in touch with me as required as well as your partners. Please let me know right away if something happens that will interfere with your ability to complete your project on time.

I'm in for sure, just have to think about what I'd like and then will send a PM.

tracibug 03-29-2013 08:27 AM

I will surely play again... :)

sikesjj 03-29-2013 11:39 AM

I will play again. It's going to be for Beau this time he is 2 1/2. I have such a mish mash of stuff in my bedroom and living area, hopefully I can redo these rooms soon.

DustysMomma 03-29-2013 02:44 PM

I figured 3 weeks would be enough time for everyone to receive their packages from the last one and decide on what they'd like to ask for. Note that the completion deadline is on a Monday this time. That'll give everyone a final push weekend to finish up this time, which some of us needed the first go around. So, in the meantime, what's everyone working on?

queenof2802 03-29-2013 06:26 PM

Ok, you have twisted my arm. I am in! Sending you my pm now....

Ditto! :) I know I want to be in, but I'm too tired to think straight now as to what I want! :)

nancia 03-30-2013 08:25 AM

you know i'm taking some time off to work on my own stuff for a change. but i think i can sneak this one in. please put me on the list. i will send pm.

DustysMomma 03-30-2013 03:32 PM

Yeah, I'm going to work on a couple little projects too. I have to make a wallet for my best friend and maybe another for someone she knows. I also have to make a tissue box holder with built-in trash receptacle for my friend's mother-in-law that will hang on her walker. I don't have a pattern for it though, so I've been putting it off, lol.

jaba 03-30-2013 05:48 PM

Just google it and you'll get lots of ideas and free patterns for the trash bag. No mail today, so haven't sent in my PM yet hopefully soon. LeBrat is a little better tonight and in better spirits. Pending tests results, she may be able to go home tomorrow, will know in the morning.

Nope, haven't seen one like this. I got one of those cardboard buckets that is the size of a square tissue box. It will live in a separate compartment, with a separate opening for deposits. I'll put either a snap or a velcro piece to hold the handle out of the way, so when it's full, you just pull it out by the handle and empty it, then drop it back in & fasten it back. It'll have a flip top, with the 2 openings in it, and two hang tabs to hang it on her walker so it won't tip over.

My friend said once I take it to her, I'll have everyone in the place wanting one like it. :D

I do hope Mrs. Bratty comes home! I miss her smiling face and witty repartee!:p

jaba 03-31-2013 06:15 AM

Would like to see what you come up with, sounds like it would be perfect. You may have a little assembly line sewing at your house.

DustysMomma 03-31-2013 06:56 AM

I may need some help with that assembly line if all goes well, lol! It's definitely something I'm going to document in case I make more.

I've decided to break down and buy an Accuquilt Go! with my income tax refund. Heck, my boyfriend wouldn't care if I just bought it, since it keeps me out of his hair about working so much, but I feel like I need to pay for it myself because it's so expensive. Thing is, I can't decide which pack to go with. The starter pack from Accuquilt is $564, with the machine, tote, 11 dies (the 12" block starter set), and 3 mats. Downside is, it doesn't come with a 2-1/2" strip die or the mat you need for it. The mix & match starter set on Amazon is $389, also 11 dies and 3 mats, but no tote or 2-1/2" die either, and if I add just the tote, it's $462, and with the 2-1/2" die & mat it's $535. The collect em all set on Amazon (only place I found it) has the machine, all of the 17 original dies (including the 2-1/2" strip & a few for applique), tote, all 4 mat sizes, and the storage rack for $794. OR! I could buy the machine alone and add the best seller 9 die/4 mat set and the tote for $590.

Someone was discussing this in another thread and sent someone to diecutyourfabric.com, but they don't carry any bundles. Everything is 30% off retail though. I just put in all the dies in the starter set and it would be $498 + shipping, so it's not cheaper for this, but the dies are competitive. Their site is nothing but an order form though, so you have to know what you're looking for before you go there.

So, that's my conundrum for this Easter weekend....

DustysMomma 03-31-2013 07:25 AM

Well, I guess that solved that. My boyfriend came in & saw me looking at them and asked me if I decided yet. I started telling him the differences in the options & he said "Just get the big set and be done with it. It's $200 difference and you got a good tax refund. Buy something for yourself." So, I guess I'm getting the big set!

jaba 03-31-2013 12:49 PM

Just talked to the Brat and they are going to release her late this afternoon. She'll probably be on the board tonight if she's not too tired when she gets home or at least tomorrow so she can jabber away, you gotta' love it!! If I didn't say so, Happy Hoppity Easter everyone.

queenof2802 03-31-2013 02:16 PM

Happy Easter!!!

QuiltingKrazy 03-31-2013 02:47 PM

ok I received two pm's about this thread so I guess i'll jump "blindly" back in again!

nancia 03-31-2013 03:12 PM

yay! welcome, krazy girl! and yay, welcome home brat! i took the week end off from the computer since i spend more time chattering here than sewing. hey, i'm working on lots of stuff! i'm sure this time around will be just as fun!!

Elisabrat 04-03-2013 06:13 AM

oh I am going to be in so much trouble with Jan... sign me up. (hiding now). I know I said no more sign ups for me til I finish this quilt but see I have help coming on the way in May so I can always twist arms to assist me on the final push of that quilt I just wont tell them yet.. oh hell help has just seen this. oops.

I have no idea what i will make as obviously I need to get a room assignment first :) I hope you get a nice turn out Dustysmom. I love the chatter as much as the suprise. I scored wonderfully last time yes yes I did. I have always wanted to try making one of those wool candle mats. go kits has so many to pick from its hard to settle on one.. then again I just like make tablemats/runners. they make me happy. wall hangings? love them. blender covers? uh no. aprons yes! oh oh want an apron someone. pick me pick me! lol. signing up nw before Jaba comes and bops my head to remind me I said NO more swaps for now. I accidentally forgot. (grin).

jaba 04-03-2013 06:25 AM

You've been bopped!! I knew you couldn't resist. Naughty Brat!! Have to look around today and just fill out the sheet and send it I guess. Was waiting to see what my partner made from the last one but I'm still keeping the bench very warm, nothing in the mail. Always like those table runners, or a runner for my fireplace mantel would be nice, need a nice cover for my mixer but I don't wear aprons brat, no aprons here.

dabbler312 04-03-2013 07:08 AM

I have too much stuff going on right now so I'm trying to decide if I should play or sit this turn out. We are in the process of painting our living room and front entry - going from the color of clay pots to tan/taupe color on our accent wall and front entry - remaining walls are going to be a much lighter cream color - very neutral. Still have time to decide to join the group again.

I had quilt club last night - we are making the quilt from the book "Every Barn Tells A Story" and we are required to have three blocks done for each meeting, This Saturday our Groovy Girls quilt club meets and for that we are making a Moda Friendship Quilt - we make five blocks for each months meeting. I have BOM to complete each month and I signed up for the doll quilt swap so need to make a doll quilt and ship that out before the end of the month. I'm kind of busy for the time being - gardening will be starting soon - YEA happy dance - what's this girl going to do.

DustysMomma 04-03-2013 04:20 PM

Yay! The more the merrier! Send in your info!!!! The sign up questions are a tad different this time, and I didn't keep everyone's info, so....

I'm glad to see you back Brat! Don't you overdo it now. On the upside, it's a long enough window to take it slow and still make something nice for your partner. Dabbler, that goes for you too! :D Jaba, don't hurt Brat too bad now, you know she's still fragile!

Not too many sign ups so far. Still some people in the wait & see category because of other obligations. Tell everyone you know though & we'll have a good turnout. I just don't know what I'll do if we have 90+ like the mug rug swap!

Elisabrat 04-03-2013 09:13 PM

I get brownie points I just did a pitch in the Pacific group swap. I figure so many say they are done and waiting taping toes and such so I suggested they tap them over here :) Does that move me up higher on the chain of .. somethings? I was so hoping to be a higher something lol. might be good never know :)

I think dabbler it sounds like your having a ton of fun. I love that book and would love to do a follow along on that wish someone on the board would start that one. like they did the ponywife club thing. Barn followers! yeah! and another quilt group? you have two? my one lucky lady. What bom's are you doing inquiring minds want to know.. like me! tell me more tell me more!
well tired bratola is going to try to get some sleep. got home at 7 pm. from dialysis. have to leave at 6 a.m. for more of the same fun. I sure know how to kill it with entertaining myself. yahoo! I am excited now. *uh huh

nancia 04-03-2013 10:06 PM

Well you're already toward the top of the signup list. Does that count? Only 5 have sent in their info to join so far. Somehow the phrase "go forth & multiply" is stuck in my head, lol.

My Accuquilt Go! cutter came yesterday! I'm so excited. I managed to stay out of the sewing room last night though. I need to pick out a project and make sure I have all the fabrics before I start cutting nilly willie or I'll have all my fabrics chopped up in a minute, lol.

dabbler312 04-04-2013 04:18 AM

Congrats with the Accuquilt Go Dusty - I don't have one but they look to be a lot of fun; I especially like that you can do applique type cut-outs. Have fun playing with your new toy.

dabbler312 04-04-2013 04:22 AM

BOM working on

1 Attachment(s)
this is a copy of the BOM quilt I'm working on this year through our local quilt shop. It's done in civil war fabrics. It's a lot of flying geese blocks - I finally broke down and purchased one of those tools "Wing Clippers" they're made for the flying geese block.

Elisabrat 04-04-2013 04:33 AM

oh Dabbler that is awesome... I think you will end up with a killer quilt. I saw the elenore spell check burns barn quilt at my quilt shop in Sonora. Love it. Ask do you have a class for that? no just a book. well thanks for nothing! it sure was a pretty quilt though. One day I might find that barn book for a bit less than the 28.00 they wanted and make one myself. one day. after all the other projects I have signed up for. Just downloaded my fat cat owl pattern for the month. Now to get Dustysmom to accucut my pieces for me. all those scalloped edges.. ugh! I could use some cats cut out happen to have that pattern dear? doubt it is one of the 20 you start with. squares are good too. charm squares. like if you wanted to do a postage stamp quilt cut 1000 of everything with your handy dandy machine. yahoo!!!

nancia 04-04-2013 06:01 AM

hey, brat~ i have the seated cat from accuquilt go. either send me fabric or tell me what you want and how many. it's absolutely dynamite for things like that! i can get my binding cut in a flash! the 2.5" is probably my favorite die. cut my own strips, then squares, slick, mama!!
d'sm~ you are gonna love it!!
dabbler~ that's a gorgeous quilt! you will be our goose queen! what colors are you using?? please join us for the swap! you know you want to play with us!! and you know we want to play with you!!:)

dabbler312 04-04-2013 07:10 AM

Brat I'm actually waiting for the new Eleanor Burns book "El's Kitchen" to come out - I preordered way back in November; it's based blocks from the thirty's. On another note - I have all of the barn segments for Quilt in a Day saved on our DVR machine - Brian keeps asking me when we can delete them and all the Love of Quilting segments that are saved - "NEVER - I haven't finished that quilt yet" truth be told I haven't even started it - we have well over 100 quiting segments saved - it's my someday project. I'll keep my eye out for the barn book for you - every once in a while you come across them for little or nothing at a tag sale if you're interested. Her directions are super simple to follow along with; I've done her sampler and underground railroad quilts.

Nancia the colors are all gold/tan/cream/brown/black - the photo doesn't do it justice. They offered a batik or a Kansas Trouble color option as well; all are very beautiful - the civil war just looked a little more timeless.

I do want to sign up it's just that I don't have a clue what I would wish for at the moment; I still have a couple of weeks to decide.

sikesjj 04-04-2013 05:55 PM

Join us Dabbler, come to the dark side! Haha! That quilt is beautiful!!! I hope I get that good someday, but I am trudging along.

nancia 04-04-2013 06:12 PM

I would but Nancia keeps kicking me, Jaba already has hers finished I know it and well I never get to have any fun. your not a fun babysitter Dustysmomma. I guess I will go work on my tropical splendor tablerunner with my swap buddies.

sikesjj 04-05-2013 06:49 PM
