12 1/2 inch UNFINISHED Hot Air Balloons
Please use 100% pre-washed cotton (required) and make sure your blocks measure 12 ½".

You make 12 blocks, all alike and send them to me along with a self addressed, stamped envelope for return postage.

Please read this regarding return envelopes:
If you are sending in one set (12) or two sets (for those who are really ambitious - 24), please do the return in the FLAT RATE ENVELOPE - you can purchase the stamp for $4.90. Please include your Board name above your "real" name on the envelope you send to me.

I will make sure they are in plastic for weather protection.

I have had several packages from other swaps that I had to pay additional postage for the return.

Your blocks can be PP, similar to or the block design that NBQ posted on the swap thread, or of your own design. Be creative with your balloons!

Sign-up will close Aug 20, blocks due to me by Sept 3rd.

I will send you back one of your blocks and one each of 11 different blocks..

Please mark EACH ONE of your blocks with a little slip of paper pinned to each block, or a sticky label can be used, please put the label on the back as sometimes some of the 'sticky' adhears to the block itself.

If you want to make multiple sets, just make sure you have 12 blocks of balloon design. You will receive back as many as you send.

Mad - it was in the Vote for the next swap thread that NBQ posted. Let me go back and see if I can find it. It was done on her EQ, not a link. sorry. Wilhelmina has one that she is going to see if she can get permission to post. If not, and you like applique, try the coloring books or clip art for a picture that you can sew.

quick question??? i am only allowed $50 /month to spend on clothes, shoes and yes fabric, so i would, possibly need to purchase the majority of my fabric at wal-mart. just wondreing how many might be offended by this fact if i were to participate.

chewboo 03-24-2010 07:26 PM

in the swaps i have been in there is a variety of fabrics--meaning they have bought at wal-mart jo-anns hancocks lqs it doesnt matter we do what we have to these are to enjoy not to worry about

luvmortherest 03-24-2010 08:26 PM

Just go to the top or bottom of this page and on the right side it gives the pages, just click on the page you want to read and then look for the post.

Welcome to the board. It's a lot of fun here.

I have no problem with that at all!! so please join because your work is great!!

STAR 03-25-2010 03:36 AM

You know Deb you were scaring me with needle turn applique but then I remembered the reason I wanted to do this swap was because I had some hot air balloon fabric in my stash, is this ok or are we strictly doing a pieced or appliqued balloon??

MISHNJIM 03-25-2010 03:46 AM

To my understanding you can do the balloon any way you want to. I think it would be nice to have a variety of different balloons made different ways.

STAR 03-25-2010 03:52 AM

I hope so because I really like the fabric

Hey there daughter - balloons can be what ever you want them to be. Single pieces cut and zig-zagged, or PP or any style of applique. Balloons are fun and you should have fun making them.

As long as the fabric is 100% cotton - go for it! Lots of us shop at Walmart......

The posted pic of the sample block is actually on the thread VOTE FOR THE NEXT SWAP by NorBanaQuilts. At the top of this page, go to the /Search/, click on that, type in vote for next swap and look for NBQ's post. It is on page 8 of that thread. And in the next page or so, is one drafted by another girl that is not "copywritten" (copyrighted?) and she has even put the measurements for each piece. You can do that if you want, or make up your own design or whatever..!

Hi All. Deb asked me to post this block here in case anyone wanted to use it to make their balloons.
Sorry the pic is so big.
Good luck to all.

Still waiting on permission to post an applique pattern, the website mentions an illness so it may take a little while ... :?
