I Spy Picnic Swap *Dead Line to Join is June 9th, 2014*

I Spy Picnic Swap Dead Line to Join is June 9th, 2014

Please cut your charms before joining.

Charms need to be in my hands by June 16th, 2014
Will start swapping on June 19th, 2014

If you would like to be part of the I Spy Charm Swap, here are the guidelines. Please read carefully:

1. Please pm me telling me that you want to enter the swap. In the pm please tell me how many sets you want to do,I will then send you a pm giving you my mailing address.

2. We will be swapping sets of 20 charm squares, each 5 inch square. You may send more than one set of 20 charms, up to 6 sets. Each set that you send to me CAN be cut from the same fabric (or 20 different fabrics) . You should be able to cut 20 five inch squares from around 1/2 yard of fabric depending on the design spacing. If you send more than one set, please use a different fabric for each set. I will divide up the charms randomly and return back to you 20 different charms per set. At least that is the goal, and I will try hard to do that! (If you send several sets, please realize that you might get duplicate charms in return.) If you do the twist no fabric from your originals are to be in there.

3. Please send 100 percent cotton only. Prewash or not prewash is exceptable . Squares should be carefully rotary cut from 100% cotton fabric. Keep in mind that your squares could end up in a child's quilt. Select fabrics that will hold up to a lot of love, wear, tears, draggin', cuddlin', washing, and trips through the dryer. Fabrics that fray easily, or are fairly easy to see through are not good candidates for this swap.

Please be advised that fabrics that are not square, squares too wonky or too off grain, squares that are shedding, squares that contain selvages, or those that are not 5" square will be returned unswapped. Be accurate in cutting the 5 inch squares. The novelty design should be good size, not tiny...it needs to be easily recognizable from a distance.Try to have the character centered on the charm as much as possible.

Be creative in your shopping...it would be great to not have too many sending me the same fabrics! In doing this I've only had a couple doubles. If you want you could post pictures of fabric it helps others in what they will send. Not a must though. This swap is all about a picnic. What ever you would bring to a picnic is a loud. Lots of insects/bugs and food. What would you put in your picnic basket? So put your thinking caps on. Ask if you have questions.

4. Place each set of 20 charms in a zip lock sandwich size baggie. INCLUDE your name, address, and QB name on a piece of paper and put it inside baggies. Please buy postage or concealed cash put in your envelopes. You just need to give me the correct postage. If postage is not included I will have to wait to send your charms back until you send the correct postage. I will provide flat rate envelopes they cost $5.95 now. Try to get the new "forever" postage that's available for flat rate. anyone who sends that won't need to send cash, and won't need to worry about rate changes.
****Outside the US needs to add more postage for it will cost more. I'm sure when you send it you will know what to send. Please send correct amount for I will not ship until correct amount is received.****

5. **Now for the twist**.
This is for those tiny prints on fabric. So the ones who would like to cut them to 2 1/2 " charms they can without losing the print. Any children's print. Please no lines, dots, flowers or things that you wouldn't want in a child's quilts please.

Let's do 15 different fabrics in each Baggie. Max you can do is 6 sets!
I will swap Baggie for Baggie .

To qualify you have to Belong in the regular swap and do at least two sets.

6.The last day for me to receive the charms is June 16th, 2014. I will post when I receive your charms. If you are sending them from outside the US, please keep this in mind as it sometimes takes weeks for packages to arrive. I will divide up the charms During the week and send out by June 23rd, 2014. Anything received after that will be returned to you.

Remember to send in what you would like to receive back.
Let’s have tons of fun,and of course you have to follow all the basic rules, found here.

I want to make sure I understand the twist. 15 different small-scale prints in each baggie. Baggies can have the same prints as each other. Twists are not picnic themed. Do I have that correct?

PeginCO 05-03-2014 06:38 AM

Love the twist!! Mini-birdies and birdhouses will be in my baggies, Owlvamp! I'm in for the max on both. Will send you a pm.

owlvamp 05-03-2014 01:51 PM

Yes you can have all your baggies the same as long as there is 15 different fabrics in each Baggie. Twist does not have to be picnic theme just small prints. Please be creative in this.

Let everyone put your thinking caps on. Let's try not to use stars and hearts, dots. I'm sure most have this in there stash. :)

owlvamp 05-03-2014 01:51 PM

PeginCo I have you down. Oh I. So excited about the bird houses and birds... :)

frizzymama13 05-04-2014 04:10 AM

I was looking on fabric.com last night. I saw thermoses, fruit pies, deviled eggs, ants digging tunnels, very hungry caterpillar! Lots of fun ideas. I'm going to wait a bit to see if I'm ready to commit to this round though. ; )

mrshalibut 05-04-2014 05:56 AM

owlvamp, it is very possible that I am blind, but I don't see the requirement for the fabric to be food or picnic themed. I know and others who've done the last swap know, but anyone new might have missed this part.

wendiq 05-04-2014 07:10 AM

Oh Yes! I have lots of food fabrics. Not sure how many I can make into sets, but I definitely want to join in. I'll do some cutting today to see if I can estimate how many sets I can send. I'm thinking 6 if that's OK.....

Ugh! I am so mad at myself!! When I went to make my first cuts in the birdhouse material, I had 2.5" on the mind, even though we said 5"! So.....I ended up with not enough for 15 full size, only 8. And the birdies FQ only gave me 12 full size. (I hadn't bought it with a swap in mind, thus the FQ purchase.)

So anyone who gets a full size birdie will get an extra 2.5" birdhouse as a bonus, and full size birdhouse swappers will get a bonus 2.5" birdie. Here are the other twist fabrics. I love the birthday cakes!

sewbizgirl 05-04-2014 04:17 PM

I'm going to join again but not officially yet, since I haven't cut anything. I LOVE the minis in our twist!

PeginCO 05-04-2014 04:42 PM

Don't you love those minis!? I hope we do it again because I have spools and Scottie dogs that are to die for!!

moonrise 05-05-2014 05:18 AM

Had to order some fabric (darn!), but I'm in! :) My 6 sets will be: watermelons, fried chicken, grilled cheese sandwiches, M&M-like candies, chili peppers, snack mix (like Chex mix), and corn on the cob.

(Yep, there are 7 listed, because the fried chicken is kind of a large print, so I'm not 100% sure if it'll be usable. I bought an extra for backup.)

I'll have to let you know on the twist. I know I have enough for 4 sets, but I'm hoping to come up with 6. :)

Okay, PeginCO, clearly we are sharing a brain when it comes to fabric choices. Not only did you beat me to the raccoons in Frizzymama's swap on Flickr, but now you have the birthday cakes I bought! :-)

I wanted to double-check this also. The theme is anything food, plus any type of bug?

PeginCO 05-05-2014 05:47 AM

Oh no! I'm sorry! Do you want to do the birthday cakes and I can use my tiny spools fabric? I can definitely use the birthday cakes for something else. (The fabrics I pictured are for the twist...so not necessarily bugs or picnic food, I think...just mini scale.) Really, I am fine with that. Just let me know. :)

Snowcleo 05-05-2014 09:38 AM

Nope, you beat me to it, fair and square! Besides, I like them enough to save them for another project. They're just so cute!!

moonrise 05-05-2014 10:34 AM

Okay, 6 sets, and 6 twists. PM-ing shortly. :)

Okay these are actually 5" charms for the twist. * ( So the ones who would like to cut them to 2 1/2 " charms they can without losing the print.)* I just put this here because some might want to cut there 5" into 2 1/2 " charms. I'm sorry for the confusion. If you cut them already send them in I'll trade them out. Did everyone think they are 2 1/2 inch charms? If so and you cut them already we can leave it at that.

Oops! Yep, I already cut them into 2-1/2" charms, and have them packaged up and ready to go. :o

Here are pics of mine. I ordered 7 fabrics instead of just 6, so that if the fried chicken fabric is too large to use, I'll use one of the others as backup. :)

I understood. It helps that I saw the discussion on the May 12th thread, I think. I am glad we are still doing 5" so people can choose to cut or not. I like 5" squares, and I may use some of the mini-prints for half square triangles--I did a quilt for a friend's baby that was zig zags with HST and I'd love to do it again with a more I Spy twist.

Library.Lil 05-06-2014 05:04 AM

Love those foods, Moonrise!

PeginCO 05-06-2014 05:25 AM

HST...ooh, that's a good idea, too. All of mine are 5", though I'm also including some 2.5" freebies. So are the people who cut to 2.5" sending four to each swapper?

ETA: this is regarding the twist...I should have used "quote."

sewbizgirl 05-06-2014 06:57 AM

I have mine ready to go. I included things you see and do on a picnic. I think we will have more than enough food blocks. Six sets/six twists.

owlvamp 05-06-2014 12:49 PM

Now remember the twist does not have to relate to the picnic theme. The twist is for tiny prints if someone wants to cut to 2 1/2". Charms. This way they can either have the 5 inch or cut to what they want it to be.

Love love the fabric you choose. The fried chicken doesn't appear to look to big but you'll know when you get it.

Oh... CRAP. I messed up. I have cut 6 bags of 15 2.5" mini charms! Good thing I saw your post before I sent the wrong thing.

sewbizgirl 05-06-2014 02:34 PM

Would 6 people like to trade 15 mini charms (2.5") with me? They can go in a regular letter envelope.

owlvamp 05-06-2014 08:53 PM

I will trade with you. Also if anyone else wants to trade can send it in their swap package and just leave me a note.

Okay... so you want me to send them to you with my swap package and then you will send them out with the packages of whoever sends in a trade? That sounds good... no extra expense. I fussy cut my 2.5"s from my scraps. I don't have enough small print fabrics to make many 5" squares that can be quartered into 2.5"s, so I am only going to send 2 twists now, instead of the 6 I signed up for.

So who else would like to trade for my boo-boos? They are bags of 15 2.5" squares. (You can cut some from your scraps that are too small for 5" squares.)

owlvamp 05-06-2014 09:09 PM

Yes send them in your package to save on shipping. I will get mine ready for you. I can do six sets to if we get a total of seven players this way we don't get ours back.

Library.Lil 05-07-2014 05:03 AM

Is the twist with 5" squares still happening?

PeginCO 05-07-2014 05:16 AM

Yes, I think so, Library lil. If I understand, six people can ALSO send in a Baggie of 15 different 2.5" squares. Btw, my earlier twist pictures are misleading because they show 6 sets of identical prints - the rules say 15 different prints! So my sets will be those prints plus several more. :o

And Owlvamp, I will do a 2.5" Baggie to swap with you and Sewbizgirl, too!!

moonrise 05-07-2014 05:23 AM

I'll send in my six 2-1/2" baggies and hopefully there will be enough to swap. :)

owlvamp 05-07-2014 05:34 AM

Yes it is! Remember 15 different fabrics in a Baggie .

Well... we need 5 more to do six of these mini sets (15 different). If you can't/don't want to do six sets, we need more than 5 people! Can you do more than one set? Look through your scraps....

owlvamp 05-08-2014 03:28 AM

Yes who sends in 2 1/2 inches I will swap them out. Once you cut up the fifteen you'll have four sets and then do another fifteen you'll have four more sets. That's if you use 30 different fabrics. Hopefully more will send in if not we will do our best. I want to make a few of the I spy books so I can have triples or more doesn't matter to me.

sewbizgirl 05-08-2014 04:43 AM

Same here... I'm planning to do some I Spy books to donate to the children's hospital so I don't mind duplicates. I had those books in mind when I cut my mini squares.

moonrise 05-08-2014 12:08 PM

My fabric arrived today, and I just finished cutting it. :)

I was unfolding the corn fabric to cut it, and noticed that it seemed a lot bigger than the 1/2 yard that I ordered. It was almost a yard! Then I saw a sticker on it. It said, "Jackpot! You got the end of the bolt!" :D How cool is that?

The fried chicken fabric is particularly awesome. It's so realistic that it looks like a photograph. I had to do some serious fussy-cutting, but I ordered extra of it just in case. :)

Anyway, I'll hit the squares with an iron tomorrow ... it's almost 90 degrees outside, so I don't feel much like ironing right now (LOL!) ... and will get them in the mail early next week.
