he is the second child  LOL Looks like I get one  LOL

sdparent 04-26-2010 02:45 AM

I can not believe that the second swap is 1/2 full already!

athenagwis 04-26-2010 05:16 AM

I’d like a second spot in this one LOL Sorry to be so wishy washy, I probably should have just kept my second spot in the other and gone ahead and did 2 spots in each LOL

I just thought of a way to make the I Spy idea more interactive and fun for my 7 year old. I think I will get two matching sets, and with one set I will make the front of the quilt, then on the second set I will cut them down to like 2.5 inch squares so you only see a portion of the square, and sew those together for the back. Then my son will have to match the small portion of the block on the back to the full block on the front ….

But I’ll just do that with this swap and then use the other one where I only have one set for other babies being born this year that are younger. :)

Are both swaps closing May 15th ???? and send in the squares by June 15???

When we send our squares in, do you want us to mark them Swap #1 and/or Swap #2?

sdparent 04-26-2010 02:38 PM

Yes they are both closing at the same time, please label them SWAP # 1 or #2. Thank You!

Sandi--sign me up for a set--thanks Gladie

sdparent 04-28-2010 05:58 AM

Wow, 2 I spy swaps at the same time and only 9 spots left! These swaps still amaze me as to how fast they fill up, you are all awesome. Thank you for joining, my squares will make some children very happy at christmas as my squares go to making quilts for Angels & Elves.

oksewglad 04-29-2010 08:06 AM

If my math is right assuming 42" of usable fabric selvage to selvage we should be able to get 40 squares from 3/4 of a yard of fabric with a few inches left over. Friend and I are going shopping today and we have 30% off at a LQS. Guess what I'm buying!

sdparent 04-29-2010 08:11 AM

I have always figured on a yard because some fabrics have more shrinkage than others.

Only 1 spot remains in this swap! The 1st PM gets it!

sdparent 05-04-2010 07:18 AM

Well mine are all washed, dried, ironed and cut, yeah! I am ready for all your squares come flying in.

My pile of I Spy squares from the previous swaps is growing into a mountain. I use my squares along with mosher92 to make I Spy quilts for needy kids for christmas so I will keep doing the swaps until everyone is sick of them.

oksewglad 05-04-2010 07:25 AM

Sandi mine are cut and dried ready to be sent out!!

sharon b 05-04-2010 08:36 AM

I posted this in main or pictures, but I'm posting it here, also

Some fabrics, in my opinion, are more usable in an I Spy type quilt when they are fussy cut than cut "wherever"

There usually is some waste when fussy cutting. I've also learned to take a taped 5-inch square with me to audition fabrics before buying.

Some fabric prints seem to work out better cut in larger or smaller squares. And some just don't seem to "work" at all, cute as they seemed to be.

Examples:

Fussy cut

Not fussy cut
