I spy swap -- Signup Closed ... We are Full

I am looking to start a 5" I Spy charm swap with 40 members. The 40 members will submit 40 squares of 3 different quilt quality fabrics.

* SIGNUP ends February 29, 2012 or until we have 40 members. You must send me a PM in order to get on the sign-up list.

First things first: Please read all the general swap rules of the board, these also apply to this swap. They are located on the top of the swap board written by the administration. Or, here is the link ...

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

~~The rules had to be posted, but now to the fun stuff!! So who is in????

*MATERIALS:
Purchase (or raid your stash) three different I Spy fabrics (a yard should do it depending on if you wish to fussy cut or how you cut designs out). Cut 40 (forty) 5 inch squares out of each of the 3 (three) different fabrics (washed, ironed and in marked zip lock bags for safe transportation).

 Please use 100% cottons only! If in doubt of fiber content, please leave it out! And NO flannels (this time).

 Please be sure to trim off the selvages before cutting your squares. Also, try to be accurate in your cutting of the squares, so they DO measure 5".

 Please double check that you have 40 squares per set!! We don't want to short change anyone.

 It seems to work best if you put each sets of squares in small ziploc baggies. Be sure to label each baggie with your board name, name, address, etc.

* MAILING DEADLINE: I would like to receive all packages by March 21st, 2010 and will sort and mail out squares by April 6th, 2012. Please PM me your address so I can add you to the list and send you my mailing address.

You will mail the squares to me in a priority flat rate envelope using postage stamp(s) on the return envelope. Please, double check the postage, as I wouldn't want your squares to be held up. I can't be responsible for extra postage fees. I'll sort all the squares and send them back to you.

Important!!!! There has been a problem reported with the post office accepting the pre-metered return envelopes, and I would hate to have your envelope held up because of expired postage. So please use a stamp or stamps!

COMMUNICATION: If something comes up and you are not able to meet the deadline for mailing, or if you need to drop out, please let me know as soon as possible.

Jannie 01-25-2012 09:59 PM

40 seems like a lot of squares of 1 fabric, but I want in. Am I right when you said you want the fabric prewashed and I can choose any theme for my squares? I will look in my stash first to see if there is something I purchased recentlly that can work.

mmonohon 01-25-2012 10:28 PM

Janine, It is 40 squares of three fabrics = 120 squares. This makes a great size quilt. Yes, please wash the fabric to make combat shrinkage, allergens, etc. I can't wait to see all the great fabrics.

I love I spy quilts, the possibilities are endless.

linbails 01-26-2012 03:59 AM

I think I would like to join this swap. I have been wanting to do an I Spy so this is perfect timing.

CompulsiveQuilter 01-26-2012 04:05 AM

I have many 5" squares already cut, (with some duplicates) of about 15 different quality fabrics. I have 40 to send, but not of just 3 fabrics. Would this work in the swap?

Cheesehead 01-26-2012 04:49 AM

I would love to be included in this swap, sending you a pm.

aeble 01-26-2012 04:50 AM

Are international participants able to join? Not quite sure how to include the return postage since I don't have US stamps and I'm pretty sure they won't accept Canadian postage back.

LindaJR 01-26-2012 02:16 PM

New to quilting and still learning the "quilt world language". What is I Spy fabric? My guess is it is fabric with pictures of things (animals, food, ETC), not a floral, strip or plaid. Am I close? Thank you.

mmonohon 01-26-2012 03:19 PM

Compulsive Quilter. 40 squares of 3 different fabric= 120. So if you have 120 - 5 inch squares to send, I will sign you up. Just let me know for sure.

mmonohon 01-26-2012 03:21 PM

Aeble, I can take pay pal payment for international shipments. Let me know so I can find out exactly how much it will be.

mmonohon 01-26-2012 03:22 PM

Welcome KatFish and MaryMo. Got you both down.

katvert 01-26-2012 07:13 PM

perhaps I am just so tired I am not reading it right... we are sending 3 different fabrics in sets of 40... and we will get 3 baggies of 40 back. The ones that come back are they going to be mixed up and all different fabrics or 40 of the same fabric?

Hopefully they will all be different (unless different people send the same fabric - but any duplicates should be minimal to nil).

This looks like a great link to a fabulous I spy quilt. Thought you all might like it.

dungeonquilter 01-31-2012 06:08 AM

Here is one I made previously. Each of the squares between the I spy squares is done using the 10 minute block technique.

Thanks for posting this link! I was already planning to do a D9P with the squares from the swap, but I was not sure how to make all the blocks face the right direction. This is a very helpful link!

One of my fabrics I used little over 3/4 yard and another I used a yard and 1/8 due to fussy cutting. Both fabrics were prewashed.
