Catpawski - I, too received quite a few non-I Spy type squares. One was completely solid brown. I wonder if someone had them packaged up for another swap and accidentally sent us the wrong ones? Too weird! Surely it was a mistake and hopefully won't happen again. Anyway, I figure I can cut them up and use them as 2 1/2" candy squares, so not all is lost.

As for returning blocks to the original sender if they don't meet the expectations of the swap, I don't think that is out of line. Perhaps she really did send in the wrong package and would like to correct the mistake.

5" Batik Swap - I would love to be in a 5" batik swap. I'm currently making a quilt using the 5" tumbler template that I purchased from Missouri Star Quilt Co. Each tumbler has a 1" black strip in between which really makes vibrant colors in the batik pop! It doesn't matter to me how many in each baggie, but I would like to ask that people send real batik fabric. I was in a swap a while back on another board and received charms from one lady that were not really batik. They were just material w/ splotches on the front. Since batik material is dipped into the dye, both the front and back are fully dyed as compared to some regular material that has been printed on the front.

Off my soapbox - looking forward to working with my I-spy charms!

I like catpawski's boldness and her idea of returning those to the one who thought they were "I spy material". I also received 12 blocks that were not suitable for this project. I didn't want to say anything because I am a newbie and didn't really know what to expect. I received some charms that would definitely be considered calico and/or "mystery" charms. I also received some that were obviously miscuts.... headless sharks, etc. I did receive some really wonderful charm patterns and am really excited to add these to my stash in preparation of making my first I spy quilt. I am also very eager to share some of the cute, cute, cute things I have bought for the next swap. The miscuts and calico and mystery charms are in a container marked "general charms". I am sure I can find some use for them. I hope no one's feelings are hurt. I am so excited to continue this swap until I have enough to lay out my quilt. I have been collecting fabric for more than 2 years for this quilt. I am adding something else to this project. I am scanning each charm and going to print a picture of the item, laminate the prints and put them on a ring to pin to the quilt. This quilt is for my grandchildren to play/nap with at my house and many of my grandkids are too young to read. I thought a picture book would be a nice addition. Let me know what you think, please. As I said, I have not made one of these before.

Okay ladies lets calm down. I understand and thought the same thing. I did take this further but was told that I Spy quilts have solids in them to. I didn't like the idea myself but was like most and didn't want to hurt anyone's feeling. But then again I love doing this and that is why I asked for your opinions . Honestly this was my 3 rd one doing and I love it even with some negative remarks. But if we don't tell them then it will keep going on. I take the good and bad and try to make this a wonderful swap for everyone. We should always send in what we want in return. This is why I requested children's fabrics. Now I can get harder and yes return charms. But I wanted to bring it up and see what you all thought. I just didn't want to upset anyone and return there blocks but no one said anything so this is the time.
Remember most of us put these charms in children's quilts. Please fussy cut your charms and send in the right size , amount and charms you want to receive in return.

I love doing this and it will not stop me . So hopefully no one is upset because no one was pointed out. I already sent in for permission for the next swap. So when it is approved it will be posted. So lets make this one a fun one. I want all happy people and I'm sorry for those of you that we're disappointed. Those of you who were unhappy I am willing to replace those if you would like me to. Just PM please. Thank you

I got my package today, but won't have time to look at them for a a few days. I hope they are perfect.

As far as squares not fitting the rules, it should be stated up front that they will be returned if they don't fit the requirements. I am disappointed when the shape is off in one corner or will be hidden in the seam and can't be used. The nice thing is most of the time everyone does a good job.

Annaquilts 07-18-2013 11:35 PM

I have done several of these swaps. I just consider squares that do not fit part of the course and will put them in my scrap bin or rehome them. I figured some one miss understood with the none kids prints. Now that person has the I Spy swap blocks back they will know what is expected for the next swap. I do feel the host has all right to contact the person and ask what happened if she so choose to do so.

I am not big on Christmas/Halloween prints, celebrate it but slightly different so will rehome them. The fussy cut Santa was very cute. I also sort by boys and girls prints. It seems I make way more boy I Spy quilts but there are way less boys kids prints available in general and even those often have pink.

I really appreciate how many people fussy cut with this swap. Much better then I am used to. I know it is a lot of work. Thank you too all for swapping with me.

Special thanks to our swap host owl vamp. I was very happy with the blocks.

So are we up for another I spy swap or do you all want to wait a little. I wouldn't end it till September anyways.

frizzymama13 07-20-2013 11:13 AM

I say relax and focus on you and your hubby! We'll all be here when you're ready in September. :-)

I am up for it as long as it is not till the end of September. It would be nice to know so I can buy fabric and be sure I can use it to swap.

Susan Sendt 07-20-2013 09:33 PM

I think you need to take the time you need to care for yourself and your husband and then do the swap That will give us all time to buy some awesome fabric and have a wonderful swap next time. I am looking forward to it!!!! In fact, I just heard about a quilt shop in close to me that I had no idea was even there! Headed there Monday morning!!!

fmhall2 07-23-2013 03:14 AM

Owlvamp -- Take a break and just take care of yourself. No swap until you are 100% back from surgery. I have plenty of squares to make a couple quilts.

Two months will give us time to find the correct fabric used in I-Spy quilts and fussy cut as necessary.

To answer your question I would say let's swap as before: 20 swatches per bag/6 bags max, and add a twist, but this time with true batiks. (Just my thought.)

Take care and heal fast.

owlvamp 07-23-2013 05:27 PM

Okay wonderful will wait till September and then post a new swap. Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts.

thyme2quilt 07-24-2013 06:14 AM

I left on vacation the day my squares were scheduled to arrive. I'm new to this site and swapping so I was very excited to swap. I had to wait another week but finally got my held mail yesterday and am happily sorting through squares.

I love my squares! So many cute prints I have not seen before! Yes, there were some that I would not consider eye spy material but those will go into my scrap pile and used for other projects.

I am definitely excited to do another swap and will be on the lookout for new prints at the local stores. Or shop my stash:)

Thank you Sandra for coordinating this swap. I appreciate the time you took to make this happen.

My name is Julie and I just joined the Quilting Board.

I am looking forward to the September swap! I will shop for fabrics this week and start cutting.

I just had my first granddaughter this summer and I figured if I start collecting now I will have plenty of time to gather my fabric and complete an I Spy quilt. I just finished her baby quilt and I am looking forward to making another quilt for her!

From reading the messages everyone seems very nice and helpful and I look forward to being a part of the group.

charp 08-12-2013 02:39 PM

I'm so glad I looked at this thread. I joined the board too late to join this swap, and I was looking for an i spy charm swap. I'm looking forward to the next one and will start shopping now!

frizzymama13 08-13-2013 02:22 AM

Glad you two joined! Owlvamp does a great job with these swaps! :-)

Jannie 08-14-2013 07:39 AM

Owlvamp, since everyone is wanting to shop, do you have a theme yet for the next swap?

catpawski 08-16-2013 03:22 AM

owlvamp..................hope things are going well for you and your husband.........surgry isn't fun......................

Can't wait till I see the new post with the new swap..........It's almost Sept..............................

Take care.............

owlvamp 08-17-2013 05:53 AM

Yes I would like to see more children's fabric, liscence fabric is okay to. Just no plain ,stripes or flower fabric. These will go into children's quilts. Toys, bike, cars, food, is all great. Think what you would want in you children's I spy quilt.

I'm doing okay and so is husband. Both get dizzy when we walk and trying to get our strength back. One day at a time.
Thanks for asking.

Susan Sendt 08-17-2013 12:09 PM

I wish we lived close by. I would make you a pot of homemade chicken and rice soup!

I agree with your suggestions for future swaps. I have to make 9 I Spy quilts, so please keep them coming!!!

owlvamp 08-17-2013 09:38 PM

Thank you Susan SendT. Homemade chicken and rice sounds awesome. Wished you lived closer too.

JLT413 08-19-2013 10:35 PM

Will the September I Spy swap include the option to do the twist if we do at least 2 of the baggies with 20 squares each? (I hope so!)

Julie

PS: I hope your recovery continues to go smoothly.

charlotte37830 08-20-2013 09:05 PM

I hope so too. I have 6 sets of 20 blocks and 2 twists made up. I hope the twist is the same as last time. If not I guess I have a start on the next swap. Lol

owlvamp 08-23-2013 04:42 PM

Yes I figure I would do the same swap in September. 6 sets max 20 in each bag and have to the regular swap to qualify for the twist. It will be matching again. But this time with the twist if you used any fabric in the regular sets you can not use it in the twist. Plus it needs to be all children fabric no solids, lines, flowers, etc.

Recovery is coming slow but getting there. So I will be writing up the requirements and submitting it for approval soon.

Susan Sendt 08-23-2013 07:10 PM

I am super excited about another swap of children's fabrics! Let the cutting continue!

charp 08-30-2013 11:22 AM

I am also super excited and have fabric bagged up already!

I hope you and your hubby are feeling better. It must be hard to have two recoveries in one house at the same time. Hopefully you have someone to take care of you both!

owlvamp 09-04-2013 05:54 PM

Keep cutting ladies! I am writing up the rules now and will submit for approval. :)

owlvamp 09-04-2013 06:07 PM

Someone suggested we do a batik swap. I don't have time until a couple months. Maybe some will host one.

owlvamp 09-08-2013 05:54 AM

Here you go ladies the next swap is up and running.
