I love doing this learning so much more about piecing borders.
Just a hint about what I learned on this round. The tiny strip borders we see on quilts is not just for looks. When doing a border that has to match in the corners or end a certain way (like this one you have to end each row with two small squares which conect to a large square in the corners. So first you get the measurement of the repeat (one large sq and two small sq.) then measure your quilt. Divide that by the repeat, if it does not divide equal. You have to add the small border all the way around, to make it come out equal. These strip or small border are refered to as coping strips. In a nut shell you are adding coping strips to bring you quilt up to the size of the borders. Hope this makes since. If you need pictures and print instrutions, you can find them in a book I have called "The Border Workbook" by Janet Kime. I bought mine online. Amazon. |
Texasquilts, that is really pretty! I think is was another perfect addition! I haven't added a border that had to be repeated like that one. The coping strip information is really a good tip...I hadn't thought of that! Thanks for mentioning it, I might need it in the next few days!

really nice ones on the board. This will be new ground for me. Anyone know of a site or books about doing this? |
I don't know...thats the type of thing I usually try to "wing" and they end up being real learning experiences  Do you have EQ? I'd try that first.

I have never done one of these, oh I am so tempted! Wonderful job! Thanks for sharing !!!!!!!!!1 |
Whoever that is?????
Keep your fingers off MY quilt!!!!!! LOL I am impatiently waiting for it to make its way back HOME!!!!!!! |
You are a hoot!!! My fingers still hurt from YOU slapping them! Ouch.
Hey I love your blue n yellow quilt on your table too. What is the pattern? Was it difficult to make? |
No harm. I am really enjoying the quilts I have been working on for others. I sort of get attached to each one.
yes the blue & yellow one was a bugger. Not one I would choose to do again. I believe it is called star spin. It is one I am glad is done. |
Well just a few more rounds and our quilts will be home.
Are you excited yet!!!!!!! I am.....lol |
I am soooo excited. I have yours Texasquilts so if you have any ideas let me know. I have it spread out in front of me trying to decide.
I'm thinking gold and I'm thinking about applique. What do you think? Do you want it to lean toward Christmasy? It has the red, green & gold going on but at this point I don't think it looks too Christmasy. |

Oooops!!! You are right. I have Colletta's. I finished yours and mailed it to AkAngel today.
Old age stinks!!! |
If its mine, I'd rather not go Christmassy. I can't wait to see what you do!!!! and I can't wait to get the next one to work on.
|
Yes it is yours. I'm sorry I had a senior moment. Any suggestions other than not Christmassy? Applique flowers?
|
Do we have a round 5 started? I didn't find one when I did a search. I'll start one.
International Round Robin, Round 5, discussion and pics |
Oh good Mary...I sure don't have the tiniest thing to post there yet though

I too have really enjoyed the learning experience from this rr with each of the borders. I have the same book you have and I really like it. I used the square on point border shown in this book for the 4th round on purplemom's quilt that just went to Colletta on Thursday. I don't know how to post pictures so Colletta is going to post one when she gets it. I hope Purplemom likes it I thought it turned out really nice.
Muriel |
AKAngel, I can't wait to see Purple's center. I was noticing the other day that I hadn't seen it in awhile and I thought it was so pretty earlier...so I can't wait to see what you did!
|
I don't know how to post pictures on the thread ( yes I know there are instructions) so I asked Colletta if she would mind posting a picture when she gets it, she should have it Tuesday or Wednesday, she said she would be glad to. I did a square on point with purple and turquoise that I pulled from the quilt. I hope purplemom likes it.
I am waiting for Texasquilts to arrive and then I will be starting on it next. Muriel |
I talked to Purple yesterday and she is really excited about her RR..I'm sure she'll love it. Hopefully Purple will be able to get to a puter this week to see it. If not, I'll print a copy and get the pic to her.
|
I can't wait to see it! What am I going to do? What am I going to do?

If you would like, I can change out this border I would be glad to do that. If you find it too busy I can change it for something plain & simple. Thanks. |
Finally found some to time to check out how they are all doing. I love mine!!!!!!!! That tease was great.
Missi |
Missi - I'm glad you like it....you have mine right? I'm hoping to see a photo soon
|
Yes I have yours. I found the perfect fabric for the border!!!!!!!
I buried my quilting room last month finishing the spare bedroom in the basement. All the stuff from the spare bedroom went into the quilting room. I almost have the machine unburied and will get yours finished this week. |

Anyhow after so deliberation I decided upon a plainish border with some blocks added in. All I hope is Elle's approves. Tisha :D WOW Tisha, haven´t been on the board much and just caught up with it again, I think it is lovely well done. Its really coming along great. I definately approve. Thanks Just received Patti´s block and its lovely in the flesh, I know exactly what I am going to do with this one. Elle |

I order the book yesterday after seeing your post. My SIL has asked me to finish a quilt top that her grandmother made. That boarder will look prefect on it. Plus it will increase the size of the quilt to queen size so she can use it on a bed if she wants. I might be emailing you for help if I don't understand the instructions. :-) If that's ok. |

I am so glad to hear it made it there safely. I'm waiting for a hint too!
|
Wouldn't it be mean if she put the border on and didn't post a picture and then just sent it to me? Then me not post a picture? lol
Wouldn't that drive you crazy? hehehe |
You are just plain EVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to even think that.
