January 2013 Doll Quilt Swap Sign Up

Sign up time for the January 2013 Quilting Board 41st Doll Quilt Swap!

Everyone is welcome to join us no matter what your skill level may be. Making and sharing doll quilts offers a wonderful opportunity to try new techniques, use up scraps in your stash – or an excuse to buy new fabric – and it’s a great way to make new quilty friends.

Here are the details
. I know they are long and boring, but please read them. Really!

As always, rules for this swap also agree with the general guidelines for all Quilt Board Swaps – Read here RULES FOR SWAPS AND SIMILAR ACTIVITIES - Updated 8 December 2010

January 2013 - Doll Quilt Swap (Krystyna is hoping to be back as hostess in Feb!)

Theme: Three Colors!

Now with that being said, there are many choices you can do using three colors. You could do a holiday theme such as New Years Day,Valentine's Day, Mardi Gras, and use only THREE COLORS. You can ask your partner what theme they would like to receive or what colors. And as always, optional quilters choices. In all instances, please communicate with your partners!

SIGN UP: Easy As 1-2-3 - 4
1. To join the fun, just send me (quiltingkrazy) a PM no later than NOON (EST) on
December 31, 2012
.
2. You will not be able to sign up if you have any outstanding quilts from previous months
3.Please let me know whether you are able to swap internationally as we have a few members who are outside the USA.
4.Let me know you have read the guidelines and make sure your QB mailbox isn’t full.

Partner Assignment: Partners will be assigned on December 31st. Find your partner at our Group Home here http://www.quiltingboard.com/groups/...group-g14.html - If there are any problems, please send me a PM.

Mailing Deadline: You must have your quilt in the mail no later than Decemer 30th. If you do not think you can meet that deadline, you might want to wait a month or two until your schedule frees up and you don’t feel pressured.

DOLL QUILT SWAP GUIDELINES

SIZE:
Doll quilts can be between 12”x12” to 24”x24” or any size or shape in between. If your finished quilt measures 24" x 26", or 11" x 13" it's fine. No worries or excessive rules for this swap.

MATERIALS: Most participants use cotton, but you can use any other natural fiber like wool, linen or silk.

EMBELLISHMENTS: Let your creativity rule. Add beads, buttons, ribbon, lace, rickrack, or whatever if you feel like it. Or add nothing at all. It’s up to you.

CONSTRUCTION: Pick your technique. Doll quilts may be pieced, appliquéd, wholecloth, quilted by hand or quilted by machine. All quilts should have binding.

LABEL: Please add a label or sign your quilt on the back with your name and the date. It is a wonderful record of your work and years from now, it will help your partner remember who made this magnificent work of art! If your quilt is reversible and you don’t want to sign it, please include a card or attach a removable tag with your Quilting Board name or real name if different.

MANNERS: Don’t for get to thank your partner. A simple post on the thread for the month is terrific, but a PM is nicer still. Please leave feedback for your partner.

HELP YOUR HOSTESS KEEP TRACK: When you mail off your quilt, please send me a PM. Also send one when you receive a quilt you’re your partner. This will help me keep track and to ensure that everyone receives a quilt.

PHOTOS: At the Quilting Board we love photos! A big part of the doll quilt fun is seeing what everyone has created, but as with most things in life, there is a little etiquette to follow. Usually the receiver will post a photo, but not everyone has a camera, so please photograph your quilt before you send it just in case. Don’t post a photo until your partner receives your quilt so the surprise won’t be spoiled. If you cannot post a photo, please ask your partner to do so.

PARTNERS: Once sign up has ended, I will assign partners. I will try to pair you with someone you haven’t had as a swap partner previously. You will make a quilt for your partner and s/he will make one for you. Please PM your partner to share physical addresses. Do not post addresses on this thread. Although there is a theme and it is often sender’s choice, it is always nice to ask if your partner has any preferences.

COMMUNICATION: If something unexpected comes up and for any reason you cannot meet the deadline or need to drop out of the swap, please let me know as soon as you know. If you take the time to communicate any difficulties, I can make sure things work out favorably for you and your partner with no hard feelings as a result. If, however, you just disappear off the face of the earth, you will not be permitted to participate in future swaps until you make good on your commitment.

DOLL QUILT GROUP – Besides this thread, there is a Doll Quilt group on the Quilting Board. There you can upload photos, start discussions on ideas for themes, share resources about techniques for doll quilts and other mini quilts, and whatever you want to do. It’s your group, so you decide!

Elisabrat 12-21-2012 07:26 AM

Your right hard to mail Dec 30th when we get our partners Dec 31st lol.

I would love to play and am excited to find out what my partner would like out of the three choices. I wanted to start now but will wait to see what they would like that will make it fun. Good call HobbyKat.

Krystyna .. I was wondering as you have gone through such a major life experience.. do you think it will affect your style of quilts/art? You are forever changed from that hurricane. I think it would maybe change your style in some way maybe colors, designs.. I know dumb question. Also that Conneticut quilter and her friends who gifted you with the machine and tools is an absolute angel. She gave you back a purpose other than rebuilding your home. You can rebuild you again and that is such a good thing. Thank you Conneticut Quilters. That is not even adequit wording. Wow. The peope here are amazingly good to each other aren't they?

Merry Christmas group. This is going to be a good month for quilting (counting on the fact the Mayans are very wrong)

TammyB 12-21-2012 08:56 AM

Oh, I'm back in the game! QuiltingKrazy, I read the rules and there's a little "oops" in them. Deadline for mailing is January 31, not December 30 right? Gotcha ya! LOL!

mooretll 12-21-2012 12:23 PM

I'm in again, Read all the rules and guideline. lol

Dragonfly Nana 12-21-2012 07:34 PM

I don't know, honestly. I've received some gorgeous gifts of fabric and there were a few that are going to end up in a "Sandy" project. The idea is still swirling around in my head, but it will be an art quilt. I need to get some EQ paper so I paper piece some of it. Or maybe not. It may just grow organically.

Yes, the quilter from Connecticut is an angel. I really don't deserve her kindness and simply cannot believe it.

As for the house, I am not so sure about rebuilding. I really don't think our insurance will come close to covering the cost and having lost everything, there is nothing to spare to toss in the rebuilding pot. It is a temptation to pay off the mortgage, sell the land and move south when my husband retires, but then there is my son. I don't think I could live without seeing him at least a couple of times a week.

QuiltingKrazy 12-22-2012 07:04 PM

OK so y'all really do read the guidelines! and that is a good thing! It should say "Mail by Jan 30th 2013"

i have out of town company this weekend so if you sent me a PM to sign up, don't think I'm ignoring you by not responding. Right now I have 20 PM's to go thru. I will reply back soon, i promise!

Merry Christmas Y'all!

Elisabrat 12-23-2012 08:33 AM

Krystyna I think your son could skype you :) and visit often. Moving does not preclude the ability to go back for visits either. Its sure a big life change if you do. I hope what ever decision you make you are excited about the possibilities ahead. I will look forward to seeing your art as you restart your quilting. I am sure it will help you translate your emotions in another fashion. and what a good outlet it is to express yourself. You are so talented at what you do :)

Quilting krazy I am soooo ready to start. I just want to make sure I get what my partner wants too.. three colors piece of cake if they have a receivers wish however a whole new ball game. I am ready to rock and roll!

nancia 12-23-2012 09:08 AM

krystyna, i can relate to the missing your child feelings. i have 2 in texas and one in london. somedays i just ache from the lack of seeing and touching them--i miss their hugs so much. skype keeps me in my dgd's life. she will be 1 and a half in february and is learning and changing at warp speed. she is a cuddly, busy little one, and nothing is sweeter! if i didn't have my dogs and cats ans dddh, i would go NUTS....oops, too late!! lol

Linny 12-23-2012 09:34 AM

Krystyna-It was nice to hear you and your husband have shelter once again, and most importantly your family. Decisions about your future will come in time I'm sure, and it does take a bit of time usually. For right now, I wish you all a peace that will sustain you into the coming new year and so much love to fill you up. We have both our boys here for the holidays (one coming from England), and at 64 years of age we just found out we will be grandparents for the first time when spring comes. His name will be Samuel. The joy we feel is great. Many blessings.

Lv2sew2011 12-23-2012 05:38 PM

I'm in too!
Donna

Krystyna 12-24-2012 04:50 AM

Good morning Ladies, I am so tempted to sign up, but I hesitate. I'm going to sound like a real nut case, but I'm afraid to sew. I was really looking forward to it but now I'm just paralyzed. I don't know what it is. I have a beautiful new machine from my secret friend from CT, I have thread and fabric and rotary cutters galore ... but I just can't get started.

Elisabrat 12-24-2012 05:44 AM

One foot at a time Krystyna one foot at a time. Step on in and we will be right here playing with you. You take that first step and i have a feeling each step after that will come faster and faster.

Two of my three children live in Oregon. I have an 8 yr old Grandchild I speak to about twice a year and have never met. Her mom gets in little tizzies and well it can be a year or two or four once that she didnt allow her to talk to me at all. Tough one .. divorce can put kids in spots they never deserve to be in. sad. things are on the up right now so I am taking it with a big smile. I miss them but each of the kids calls me at least every other day so no day goes by without a Mom call. for this I am very grateful.

nancia 12-24-2012 07:04 AM

girl, take the plunge! you'll be ok. you deserve to have good things happen. the first cut is the hardest, after that it will all come easier. please join us!

Linny 12-24-2012 10:48 AM

Merry Christmas everyone. I sure have enjoyed seeing everyone's beautiful creations for December....they get prettier every month.....looking forward to swapping again after the new year. Many blessings.

Lilrain 12-24-2012 11:10 AM

Will send PM, am interested in getting back into the Doll Quilt swap. it has been a while since I did it and think I shoulod just take the plunge, so to speak.

QuiltingKrazy 12-25-2012 07:10 PM

Hey Krystyna, Why not join in the fun this month? you need to do something you enjoy, and remember NO QUILT POLICE in this swap! So that being said, all you need to do is pick any three colors and begin to cut and sew. no rush, no pressure, what a great place to get back into the swing of things. I love my Janome 6500, I'm sure you will love yours to. It will love you back, you just have to turn it on! lol

QuiltingKrazy 12-25-2012 07:14 PM

Hey Y'all, I have finally taken the time to answer the PM's y'all have sent me about signing up. So if you sent me a PM to sign up for Jan DQ swap, you should have received a reply from me tonight. So far we have 23 people signed up to swap in January. Hopefully 24 when Krystyna gets the nerve back up to sew again and she signs up to join in!

YEA! Welcome Back Miss K!

Dragonfly Nana 12-26-2012 11:50 AM

Yes, yes- welcome back Krystyna!
so glad I didn't sing either - my singing would have sent her running the other way. ;)

Krystyna 12-27-2012 06:58 AM

OK. Three colors. Solids?

QuiltingKrazy 12-27-2012 07:22 AM

Any three colors is good doesn't have to be solids. The original thought came from celebrations in Feb....Valentines Day -Red, pink and white or Mardi Gras --Green, purple and yellow gold. So You choose any three you want!

QuilterMomma 12-27-2012 08:31 AM

Wondering if I dare for January. Then to do in three colors. Thinking about it. I know, not much time to think here.

QuiltingKrazy 12-27-2012 05:33 PM

QuiltingKrazy 12-27-2012 06:12 PM

Now that was a cool gift!

Elisabrat 12-27-2012 08:28 PM

I am having a killer time waiting to start. looking at calendar: hurry up hurry up.. darn the day has not changed yet. I really want to make what my partner wants this month. a challenge I think vs just making one I like lol.. probably they want ducks in cowboy hats (quiltingkrazy?) or purple elephants with beads and masks.. and here I was whipping up a heart boquet.. so I will wait and wait and wait.. sigh. anyone want tea while we wait? and cookies oh yes and cookies too.

Psychomomquilter 12-28-2012 04:24 AM

Krystyna , face that fear and just do it!
