Everyone - please include your QB screen name as well as your real name on the outside and the inside of your package. It's a real challenge to keep straight who is sending what.

Thanks - - -

Do the d4p blocks need to be made for the set(s) before signing up?

No they don't need to be made before you sign up, just need to be to jane by the due date. Join us it will be fun. I am still working on my b/w with brights. then will be starting the batik d4p.

nurse bonnie 12-29-2013 10:19 AM

I would like to sign up for 6 sets also. I so love a challenge and I love making blocks and I love swapping.

Happy New Years to all my quilting buddies.

Finished my prototype!

1 down, 17 to go. Just testing out the pattern. Looks not square in the photo, but it is!

MaryMo 12-29-2013 10:27 AM

that works! looks fantastic .... and as you say "only 17 to go". I gotta' get going here.

givio 12-29-2013 10:44 AM

Bonnie, Happy New Year! And HNY to all! :-)
I've got my 4 patches all sewn. Starting to cut them for the next step.

Starshine, it seems to be a quick block to make. If you haven't tried this pattern yet, it's very nice!

givio 12-29-2013 10:46 AM

Khuxford, Love that swirly brown! I don't think I've seen that dot batik before. Your points look great! :-)))

Nope! That's part of the beauty of the timing of this swap. You have a month to sign up from the date I post and a month to finish your quilt blocks and get them to me which totals 2 months. Pretty cool, huh??

Come play with us! We have a blast.

sewmany 12-29-2013 11:11 AM

Been eyeing this swap. Have not attempted a sew swap. This is my first.
I like to do 6 sets.
That means 6 baggies of 6 blocks in each baggie and Each baggie is to use different batik.
right?
I think the question was asked if we are getting one of our own back. I usually make extra for myself hoping the 6 I get back are different so I get the variety.
am I just signing up for January or is it a year long swap?

givio 12-29-2013 11:25 AM

Sewmany, Yes, the variety of fabric prints to come back to you from the swap is what's fun. :-)
Each month Jane made a new theme... You can do each month separately. I hope she has enough themes to continue all year though!

sustraley 12-29-2013 02:33 PM

I did my prototype with no problem. Then had a cutting problem with one and a sewing together problem with another. It really is an easy block. I think I just had one of those days. So now back to the drawing board-(sewing machine). I hope the piecing gods are watching over me.

createfourpaws 12-29-2013 02:38 PM

I think using just 2 different fabrics over 4 will be much easier. I am having more problems with the b/w/ brights. I will be cutting my fabric for the batiks next weekend.

Short an Sweet 12-29-2013 06:17 PM

I'm gonna be a woos and only sign up for 1 set, because my husband is getting transferred out of state, so at some point I'm going to be moving lol

mom-6 12-29-2013 09:21 PM

😃Yea! I'm over halfway done. All four patches stitched together, three sets totally completed, and one of each of the final three sets done.

givio 12-29-2013 10:14 PM

Welcome Short and Sweet! One set will be fun for you! I used 6 blocks to make the front of a pillowcase (well, I used a zipper, so it's sort of like a pillow cover). One set could also make a cute table runner-- or whatever you can imagine! :-)

mom-6 12-29-2013 10:50 PM

Oops! This post about being nearly done should have been on the black/white/bright one. Haven't started on the batiks yet.

Short an Sweet 12-30-2013 04:16 AM

I haven't decided on a table runner or a dresser scarf yet, lol i'll have to give it some thought

Just a quick question. The directions say to make the cuts one inch off the center seams, or wider to vary the look. I am assuming you want it kept to the one inch cuts?

givio 12-30-2013 01:34 PM

Short an Sweet, assumption correct. We are doing the 1" cut from the center seam.

tubsfam 12-30-2013 04:50 PM

ok, in for 3 sets of batiks

givio 01-01-2014 04:32 AM

tubsfam, Welcome! We have quite a big group this time!

jclinganrey 01-01-2014 10:54 AM

Good morning & Happy New Year!

The February swap is posted and it has a fun 'twist' to the block. Hope you like it!

Jane

CRO 01-01-2014 02:01 PM

I've never made this block before so I am making a couple before deciding if I am up for this. I have one question. How do you press the seams on the 4 patch? Open?
Thank you.

I have been pressing to one side. ALthough might be better if pressed open.

Short an Sweet 01-01-2014 02:26 PM

k I thought I was mis-reading but... the February deadlines are the same as the January guidelines?

givio 01-01-2014 02:52 PM

I pressed to one side. The seams are a very scant 1/4" making it more difficult to press open and keep open. I think I would have to use starch to keep such a small seam open...

CRO 01-01-2014 04:01 PM

OK I'm gonna bite the bullet and do 3 sets. It really isn't a hard block.

Correction: the February due date is MARCH 30th.

Jane

jaba 01-01-2014 07:37 PM

I'm pressing mine to the dark side. Much easier to quilt on the long arm and I think your seams stay together better. Just an opinion...Started cutting out my batiks today, begin sewing tomorrow and now Valentine's, I better get in high gear and get to sewing.

marcialee 01-02-2014 03:55 AM

I just signed up. Can't wait to start sewing today
