I mailed my center yesterday to mmonohon. I have tracking number but didn't message her with it yet...

I made another center block today so I am ready to mail if I can for sure join group 2...I'll let you know asap. It is called Folded Corners.

petthefabric 01-05-2021 05:53 PM

This medallion, is raw edge. I'm asking my group to give me your feed back: are you OK with this or do you want me to submit something else? This is a first attemp and it's way too big. It will require making it again within the size parameters. So changing it is not an additional step. I like what I've got and will finish it myself.

I didn't see a photo attached.

The medallion is in post #37.

carriem 01-06-2021 04:50 AM

petthefabric--How big is "way too big"? Is it a rectangle or are there places that the next person would need to "fill in"? If so I would recommend you at least make it have even sides

Macybaby 01-06-2021 05:47 AM

Petthefabric, I've fine with what ever you want to do. that is half the fun, figuring out what will go with what we get.

Here is one word of advice to everyone - as you work on rounds, make sure to measure across the middle and the outer edges to keep it squared up. Normally if you are adding pieced blocks it's easier to keep them the correct dimension, but if you are putting in borders or rows that have variations, it can be really easy to get a bit of stretch happening.

For the last Round, I received one top that was 2" wider on the outer sides than in the middle (both directions). I only measured across the middle and figured it was perfect and I made the border with 6" blocks and when I went to attach it, there was no way I could make it fit. That is when I figured out what the problem was. I ended up taking off a few rows and resewing them to take out the excess. This problem started happening early on, with about a 1/2" extra. It's real easy to "ease" back a 1/2" with the next round if you catch that it needs to happen. In this case each progressive round got a bit longer. This top has several "filler" border strips, and those are prone to this problem.

Great advice! Last time I sent tops with blocks that had bias in the borders, and received them. Its always best to do as you recommended. This time, I may even baste the edges if I send with bias in the blocks. Its amazing how much stretch happens without much handling of the top by the end of the project. Live and learn. Hugs!!

I was once in a row robin. My row for some reason was always at the top. No row was added above it. When all of the rounds were added and returned to me, the bottom row was two inches wider than my row. I had no ideas about correcting and it ended up in the round file. I was so disappointed as I had put a lot effort into my row.

Please, always take measurements before starting.

petthefabric 01-08-2021 01:23 PM

I'm on my second attempt at a center. Then I remembered kiss. So here goes a third attempt.

Mona G 01-08-2021 02:11 PM

Good Luck Pet

hav4boys 01-08-2021 02:41 PM

Mine will mail on Monday. I am so excited to receive the center. I bought 5 paper-pieced border books.

Macybaby 01-10-2021 03:10 AM

I've received Mona's center and will let ideas percolate for a bit. Want to get the BH mystery off my design board first, and finish up the quilt on the LA that got sidetracked when I had to order more thread (I've had the thread for a week now).

I've not seen a photo of this one either.

2 more days to mail your center, let me know if you have any problems.

carriem 01-13-2021 03:14 PM

Hav4boys mentioned mailing on Monday...when I get it I'll be sure to post a picture.

I went through my border books and picked a couple options, then went through my stash and just needed to buy one thing for Macybaby's center at the quilt shop today. Taking MIL to an appt in the morning then should have time to sew rest of the day!! Yay. :) I am really hoping my idea works with the fabrics I picked out.

petthefabric--I really hope you don't have the same reaction the cortisone in your thumb that I did...I couldn't use my hand much at all for about 5 days. Can't wait to see your finished block!

Suz 01-13-2021 04:08 PM

I too took shots in both thumbs and had surgery two years ago on my right thumb to remove a bone spur. So much better now although my hand is not as strong as once was. And being an needle-turn appliquér, I do have some trouble handling a needle and pins. It is a challenge but yes, I would have the surgery again. The pain is gone.

Fast forward to Nov 2020. Had the surgery on 11/2 on my left thumb and diagnosed on 11/5 with COVID. The surgeon put my left hand into a cast for a month. Booo! Have survived, the cast off, and now exercises. And again, yes to the surgery. I am well onto being back to normal. Don’t give up on permanent repair.

carriem 01-13-2021 04:27 PM

Suz, is the surgery you had the LRTI (Ligament Reconstruction and Tendon Interposition)? Where they take the bone out and make a "sling"?

Mona G 01-13-2021 05:07 PM

Mmonohon center has been delayed, I might get it Friday.

hav4boys 01-13-2021 07:13 PM

Hav4boys Moose block.
