Hi GramE,
This is the photo I promised to post for you. http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/...s/SAM_1561.jpg As your looking at that card, Your address would be on the right. And, I put mine in the top left corner. I change my backs sometimes. They are not always the same. But, key basic components always stay the same. You will see if you stay in the swap long enough swapping postcards. Everybody does their own things on the backs. Some people use a rubber stamp. Some people do embroidery. And, some do lovely hand drawn artwork etc. |
GramE, If you ask anyone I've swapped with, I always include some type of note on the back of my postcards. I use a black/brown/blue Scrapbook Pigma Pen(whatever I can find at the time) to write my notes. I heat set the ink with my iron. (If the back of your card is paper or cardstock, feel free to use whatever your want. No need to heat set.) The back of my postcards are muslin. There is NO wrong way. Whatever is convenient for you.

Happy day! I got my postcard in my first postcard swap, ever. So cute. Gonna make it a magnet for the fridge so everyone can see it! So much detail & skill. I hope my second swap I improve on my card making skills. I did learn a lot but experience is the best teacher. I would love to get into a place where I could have some made ahead to send to my grands, all 12 of them and maybe I'll make one for my great granddaughter who turns one in a month. Thank you, Judith for such a beautiful card to brighten my day. The buttons, embroidery & bunny, such detailed work! I love the pennant! I thought about a pennant but didn't know how to pull it off, now I have a perfect example! And thanks for the list giving the schedule. I need think ahead time & still don't quite know why I signed up 1 1/2 hrs before the deadline but am glad I did. I promise to do better next time. |
Gosh Judith that's a beautiful card -
I hope to finish my FPC today - and send it out tomorrow - now comes the hard part for me, attaching fabric to card. I like to hand-sew and applique but then get boxed into a corner with what to do when. However these hurdles are also fun. |
Hi Pat, I am glad you like the card I mailed off to you. Thank you for posting a photo and letting me know you received. I will mark my list. I am sure your postcard is going to be great. I hope you enjoy making them and continue with us for awhile. Remember, you do have around 30 days to create once I post the sign ups. I usually try to post the signups around the 20th of the month.

Hi K-Roll, I always applique and sew before I add my peltex and backing. (Most of the time.) There has been a time or two that I have forgotten. I always stabilize my fabric with a medium weight stabilizer to make the card a little stiffer and easier to applique and sew or embroider on. Then, I iron on my peltex. (Carefully, so as not to burn any embelishments.) Then, I will sew my card to the backing fabric. This is just my way, not the only way. Maybe some of my tips can help you.

I thought yours felt stiffer than mine! I will remember stabilizer the next time.

I always use stiffened felt in my postcards and I find that it works well. It is also quite inexpensive compared to Peltex. I believe it would be available at most craft stores.
http://www.joann.com/stiffened-9inx1...prd821383.html This is a link to a Joann store for a pack of 12 sheets....9 x 12 inches......$10.99. I am sure that you can also purchase by the sheet also at some stores. I cut the felt just slightly smaller than the card and insert it before the back is sewn on. As I mostly machine embroider mine it is still very much the same process as Judith mentioned. |
Oh Betty, thanks for the reminder on the stiffened felt. I keep forgetting about it. It's great stuff also!

LIndaC and Judith1005 The FPC was mailed out today. Hope that you like my version of camping.
|
My post card has been ready to mail for a while. I just haven't been to the post office, etc etc etc... Mumble... mumble... I did use my sawing machine to get tile cut for my husband as he tiled our bathroom. That was about 4 days. Then 2 of my DGDs wanted to make post cards, too. So they did. But they didn't address them. Well, finally! today I got them to address them and we are ready to go. I just have to make it to the post office some how.

|
My wonky post card went out today. Finally.
|
I'm still slowly working on mine. I hope to knock it out tomorrow and Mail on Monday. Sorry for taking so long.
|
My post cards seem to turn out wonky. They either don't lay flat or they go crooked when I sew around the edges.
|
GramE, I received my postcard. I love it. It's perfect. I love the 4th of July vibe and the doggy on it. It's awesome.
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/...s/SAM_1647.jpg For your first postcard, I'd say you did really well! It's a winner in my book. :) |

Nana20010 your postcard went out today!
|
I adore all of these camper themed cards. My son is literally building one of the small 'tear drop campers'.
|
I received my post card today. Will try to get pictures tomorrow and post. Thank you Miriam I love it. I also mailed my post card today.
|
My card is mailed & I received mine today - from Pat/nhnative - I will post a picture of it tomorrow & when the light is better (it's almost midnight here).
GramE & Judith -- just adorable! GramE when you said that was your first card I felt like throwing in my needle - so good! I really appreciate all the tips about stiffening and such - I have no peltex and will find out what it is soon. I did starch some fabric pieces this time and it helped - also paying closer attention helped :) - oh and ironing, I now have a mini-iron. JuneBillie - camping with my DH one year in Indiana, one weekend the campground around us began to fill up with a gathering of teardrop camper enthusiasts- it was fascinating. We became intrigued with the idea of building one, after shooting the breeze with various owners. Good luck to your son, they are so neatly designed. |
Thank you all for updating me. I revised my list this morning. Have heard from just about all of you.
