Holy smokes! You guys are eager beavers! I haven't decided for sure what I'm going to do for the next runner and I'm seeing 3rd options! lol
Just wanted to comment on the machine binding: I add the binding by machine on all of my quilts etc now. However, when I attach to the quilt, I sew the binding to the BACK of the quilt sandwich, then it's wrapped around to the right side of the quilt. My machine has many decorative stitches, so I choose one & play with it, until it provides good coverage of the binding & also secures the corners as I go around the quilt. The quilts stand up much better to multiple washings etc. As I go around, the binding is secured well with pinning in short sections so there is no movement or rippling. Works for me! |
Welcome to the swap pndnana. Glad you are joining in. Love to see what everyone is doing.

That is a real good Idea Sue. A have a few good decorative stitches that might just work. Going from back to front will be a great help in making it look good. Anxious to give it a try. You are marvelous! I will do a practice square and see how it goes.

Thanks Ube! Your runner is really nice! I love those stars; I tried to make a runner with a similar star block a while back and had a hard time matching things up so I gave up...I just finished the quilting on my runner last night. I have been enamored of the "baptist fan" quilting motif. I's kind of been my "white whale" of quilting designs, so my runner is a simple pattern, but not so simple quilting. It's turning out pretty well :-)

ekuw, without the EWSGlue I would never be able to do these small stars. I used a very thin line of glue on the back side of the triangle near the creased sewing line, It holds the triangle perfectly while you sew.

Lovely runners -- both the summer ones and the fall ones. I wanted to add my 2 cents into the binding conversation. I never, ever bind by hand. I'm a machine person only. Attach binding to the back, fold to front and stitch down. I haven't done it, but if I wanted to make it fancy, I'd use a flange. I was told that even the quilt police at quilt shows are accepting machine binding now, especially those with the flange.
Here's a short tute on making binding with a flange: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...3D2E&FORM=VIRE |
