June 2014 Pincushion & Needlecase Swap ~ signup closes June 1st

June 2014 Pincushion & Needlecase Swap ~ signup closes June 1st
This is a secret swap and you will not necessarily be sending to the person who will send to you. You may sign up for two items: can be either 2 pincushions OR 2 needle cases OR 1 of each. International swappers are welcome to join us, and can send a pincushion "unstuffed" to save on postage. All skill levels welcomed!

THEME: This month the theme with be SUMMER or YELLOW.

CONSTRUCTION:

1. The cushion/case does NOT have to be quilted or hand embroidered, although it can be. But it must be handmade - not purchased.
2. Use cotton or wool felt for the pincushions and stuff with appropriate filling. Use cotton or felt for the needle case, and it should have an insert of wool, felt, or Warm and Natural (this is great for needle cases).
3. Embellishments/appliqué/embroidery are welcome but not required. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL LINE IN THE INFORMATION SHEET REGARDING THE USE OF POLY BLENDS IN THE COTTON AND FELT. If you plan on using the cushion/case as a daily use item please mention this, as polyester will dull the points of pins and needles.
4. The size and shape of the pincushion/needle case is up to the individual creating it, but should not be smaller than 3” x 3”.

SIGN UPS:
Sign-ups begin today and end on June 1st at 9:00pm EST. This is a firm closing time. Names will be assigned by PM beginning no later than the morning of June 3rd and should be completed by end of the day.
Please respond to this thread with a post if you are joining the swap. Then highlight and copy the information sheet onto a new PM, fill it in and PM it to me. Please put in the subject line of the PM what you want to swap. I will acknowledge receipt of your PM.

MAILING DATE:
The deadline for mailing is Monday June 16th. International swap mail date is June 12th.
Participants in the May swap who did not fulfill their obligation by the time the June signup closes will not be able to participate in this swap.
You are required to PM me with your tracking number when you ship. You are required to have a tracking number on your package but priority mail is not required. First class with a tracking number is acceptable.
If for some reason you will not be able to fulfill your obligation, please PM me as soon as possible so that I can locate a swap angel.
YOU MUST SEND ME A PM WHEN YOU SHIP AND WHEN YOU RECEIVE. Remember to thank your partner, either by a post, or a PM for a personal thank you. It would be nice if you report a feedback score to your SP. Pictures are encouraged, but not required. We all love seeing what everyone is receiving. If you are unable to post a picture, please make sure that you mark that on your information sheet so that your partner can take a picture before shipping it. Please understand that this board has members with different skill levels and you will not necessarily be swapping with someone at the same level. Let's love the creation we are sent. We all started somewhere and the most important thing to remember, is that your partner made it with you in mind!

EXTRAS:
Please add a card or note so the recipient knows who made it. It is not necessary to send other items such as needles, pins, etc., but you may if you would like. Just make sure the pin points will not poke out during shipping and stab the postal worker. Honest – this has happened – one of the swappers mentioned it.

The more you add, the better she/he will be able to get to know you. Plus, I will be using this info to match partners. If you have questions, please PM me and I will try to answer as quickly as possible.

REQUIRED: I am required to tell participants to send me a monthly PM to verify that they are still active in this swap and are working on their promised project. I am required to insist that all participants send me verification of shipment, to include tracking information. Participants are required to ensure packages will not arrive “postage due.” Any and all other fees, such as import duties, taxes, etc imposed by the recipient’s government are the sole responsibility of the recipient. Absent legitimate and reported mitigating circumstances, participants who have not fulfilled their obligation to ship shall be deemed “late” and risk receiving Negative [Swap] Feedback. Please keep in touch with me and let me know right away if something happens that will interfere with your ability to complete your project on time. Swappers should treat each other as friends and focus on the fun. So … please be prepared to be flexible, patient and understanding if necessary and appropriate.

SHOULD YOU HAVE PROBLEMS, QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS PLEASE PM ME IMMEDIATELY! Thank you, and enjoy this swap.

it's dreary here today, so i'll stay in and work on my hex quilt. I'll be working
on this for the rest of my life. 3/4" is small. I must be crazy. i think if i ever
finish it, it will be an heirloom.

kele 05-28-2014 07:22 PM

I'd like to join your pincushion party! Please put me down for one of each. I will send a pm. Just have a couple of questions - Are there any requirements for the dimensions of either pincushions or needlecases? Are crushed walnut shells ok for filler?

Just re-read the original post and saw the size requirement.

JuneBillie 05-28-2014 08:52 PM

Welcome Kele, so glad you joined in with us. We have a lot of fun here. You will get lots more welcomes tomorrow or rather later today now. lol. I am a night owl.

klaws 05-29-2014 03:07 AM

Yippee, we have a newbie...Hi Kele. Welcome! Love your little duck. Yes, crushed walnut shells is ok for a filler.
Getting ready for an eye appointment this morning. Will check back in later. Everyone have a good day.

lynnie 05-29-2014 08:42 AM

Hi welcome Kele. i just got my pincushion from SCRAPPER and it's stuffed with walnut shells
and it's so nice and firm and pudgy and aqua. Maybe she can show a picture for all of us.

It's great to see a new person on the swap. Tell us about yourself.

Did anyone tell kele she has to get 25 more people to join...he he he (just kidding).
It's beautiful here today about 65 and sunny. my type of day.

lawsonmugs 05-29-2014 08:50 AM

I just received my May needlebook from Scrapper and want everyone to see it. I didn't know if everyone is still following the may swap. Thanks again Cary it's very pretty:thumbup: and a nice package.

lauriejo 05-29-2014 12:15 PM

LOL lynnie I like your thinking, but 25 more swappers is kinda scary! I love all the regulars, but it is fun to get new "faces". Maybe I should challenge everyone to try to encourage one more person to join???

lynnie 05-29-2014 12:24 PM

I'm trying lauriejo, really. The people i know and asked are 'on vacation'.
not sure if that means physically or psychologically. maybe both.
i'm ready to ship. just need my name.

and lauriejo, thanks for being such a great hostess

nhnative 05-29-2014 12:36 PM

Hi Kele Welcome to the Swap. You will have fun here

lynnie 05-29-2014 12:41 PM

Anyone know what they're doing yet????

Anyone know next months theme. gotta get working on it.

klaws 05-29-2014 12:59 PM

Mine is already finished for this swap. I think July is red, white and blue. Is that right Laurie?
Went to the eye doctor this morning. Even though I wear glasses, my eyes are healthy. I hate having my pupils dilated. It has taken this long for them to get back to normal....from 9:30 am until now.
I asked a friend (Quilty-Louise) to join in this month but she is busy making aprons. She posted pictures on facebook of some aprons that she made and now friends and family want her to make one for them. She said maybe in July.
I also have something I want to show off. I will post pictures later.

JuneBillie 05-29-2014 01:50 PM

Mary that is such a pretty needle case that Scrapper made for you, and pretty goodies too.

I haven't started mine yet, because I like to wait to see who I get.

I do already have the red, white, and blue fabric I need for July though.

Everyone have a great day! It's pretty here today, and pretty much warm everyday now.

Off to take that challenge, and invite someone to our swap.

lawsonmugs 05-29-2014 03:12 PM

July is Patriotic or red, white and blue. I got my june needlebook almost done, I need to start my pin cushion.

kele 05-29-2014 04:42 PM

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! I've seen so many pretty things in these swaps, can't wait to get started. Never made a needlecase before and have only made a couple of pincushions, but it looks like fun.

JuneBillie 05-29-2014 04:48 PM

Ok, I invited a friend (oksewnsew) and she has been a part of this swap before, but is involved in many other projects right now.

lauriejo 05-29-2014 04:50 PM

I haven't started June's yet, I will probably wait and see what types of stuff my partner likes. July's theme is patriotic or flag colors. I didn't want to do r/w/b in case we got any international swappers with different color flags. kele I never made a needlecase before this swap either, but they are fun. I will warn you that the swap is addicting!

lynnie 05-29-2014 05:11 PM

this swap is so addicting, get ready kele.
I'm in for the rw&B. GOTTA DIG SOME UP, OR GO GET SOME.
I'll just go get some, it's easier than looking and builds up
my monstrous stash too. I know i have some, someplace.

lauriejo 05-29-2014 06:26 PM

Here's the latest list of swappers:

lynnie - pincushion
klaws - pincushion
JuneBillie - pincushion
lawsonmugs - pincushion & needlecase
PeginCO - pincushion & needlecase
NanaKathy - pincushion & needlecase
nhnative - two pincushions
kele - pincushion & needlecase
me - whatever!

JuneBillie 05-29-2014 07:27 PM

Laurie I see why patriotic or flag colors. That is appropriate. I am up sewing on pieces for a quilt tonight. It always feels so relaxing to me. Gets my mind on other things. We sure are getting close to getting our special names. I always look forward to that.

Earlier I said that I had something to show off. Yesterday I received the BEST pincushion that I ever received! I did a special pc swap with PeginCO's 10 yr old daughter Claire. She did such a wonderful job. I think she put me to shame. She also made me a little Santa face magnet and sent 2 pretty pieces of fabric and wrote the most precious note. Now is the time for all of you to be jealous. Here is a picture of Claire's two-peas-in-a-pod wrist pincushion.

She has such talent. I think she would be a great addition to our group if she is willing and everyone agrees. What do you say???

I made her a chicken pincushion and sent a lot of little things to add to her sewing basket. Peg said that she will post pictures later.

lauriejo 05-30-2014 05:36 AM

Karen that is darling! I have seen patterns for the pea pod pincushion, but never saw a "real" one. It would be fine with me to have her join the group, looks like she certainly has the skills. I wonder if there is an age requirement to join the QB? If anyone has an objection to swapping with Claire, please shoot me a PM.

lynnie 05-30-2014 07:08 AM

I'd love to swap with her. the more the merrier and she's a good pincushion maker!
welcome Claire!

lawsonmugs 05-30-2014 08:22 AM

Wow,Claire did a terrific job on the pin cushion and santa. I hope there is no age limit. I for one would love to swap with her.She is very talented. If the board says no,PM me so I can do a swap sometime with her.We all need to encourage our future quilters.

JuneBillie 05-30-2014 09:07 AM

Claire you did a wonderful job on that pincushion, and the pretty santa magnet too. I sure hope there is no age limit. I have never made either one of those before. When I seen the picture of it on the wrist it really showed what a good size it is too.
Welcome Claire!

nhnative 05-30-2014 10:11 AM

Claire you did such a good job on the pincushion and Santa magnet. I wouldn't have a problem with it. I think we have to start the young ones early.

lynnie 05-30-2014 10:39 AM

clair needs to sign up and get herself on board so she too, can become a super member. Never to early.

You all are so kind! I read your comments to Claire, and she was all smiles. I hesitate to add her to the board, even if eligible, for personal reasons (nothing major - just she doesn't get on the computer very often, she's young and her skill is developing, maybe not everyone would appreciate that...). Let me think about it! At least I could help her manage a few swaps through me. I can keep a list of willing participants. :) Or maybe I can add her through lauriejo on a few months that work for us. Each of you is so dear to offer! Thank you!

Let me tell you, though, it wouldn't be for lack of willingness on Claire's part. She had so much fun with Karen. It was truly an encouragement to her. Here she is with her chicken pin cushion. And below that - her fun, fun package! Thanks a million, klaws!
