Karen that is why I laughed in fun, because I thought to myself thank goodness I am not the only one who gets things mixed up or forgets. I am telling you my mind is gone some days. :)

klaws 06-28-2015 12:38 PM

Mine too, girlfriend! :D

jaba 06-28-2015 12:39 PM

:) I do the same thing, now I write it on the calendar when I send and receive. JuneBillie is that asparagras growing? Do you need more?

lawsonmugs 06-28-2015 12:53 PM

Oh wish I had fresh asparagus. Tried growing it twice. ended up digging it up after 5 years of next to nothing. Some people I have as neighbors both have it growing and they mow it over. Won't let anyone come and cut it to eat. Such a shame. You'd think they would cut it and sell it. It's very expensive in the stores. Sometimes when a swap is sent early I forget I got that months already and have to recheck too.

ctyankee 06-28-2015 01:17 PM

That's why I only belong to two swaps. I find my head spinning just keeping up with those two! How does anyone manage with more than that???

Jaba -- the calendar is a great idea. Now just to actually write it on there ...

lynnie 06-28-2015 02:20 PM

Mary, I love fresh asparagus, so yummy roasted with olive oil and some spices. great treat.
I'd try growing it but what about the bugs. I bet wild is the best. no pesticides.

lawsonmugs 06-28-2015 04:17 PM

My soil is just to hard and rocky. I didn't have trouble with bugs. I made a nice deep ditch and put lots of good store bought soil in it and it still only did very little production. I bought older plants to get spears sooner. I don't know what happened.

JuneBillie 06-28-2015 05:24 PM

Jaba yes so far it is alive, and hopefully growing. I am going to get some more soil at Lowes Tuesday to build the soil up some more. I need to pick up some mulch also. I planted me some yellow crook neck squash, and have got to replant in a big container. I am experimenting with some container gardening. The asparagus is in the ground though. My dad's apple tree will have a bunch of apples, and we are going to freeze a lot of those. (Take dad some fried apple pies):)

I keep a calender on the wall next to me to keep up with swaps.

jaba 06-28-2015 05:41 PM

Yes!! So glad it's growing for you, makes me very happy. I have never had trouble with bugs and do not use any kind of spray on it, no pesticides here all natural. Had some yesterday on the barby, grilled with olive oil and garlic. That is heaven!

jaba 06-28-2015 05:52 PM

Mary that is sad, $3.00 a pound here in the store. JuneBillie we have apple trees too, want to share your recipe for fried apple pie? Woul love to try it. Bet it would work for rhubarb too.....sounds yummy. Strawberries and raspberries are on the plants, just not ripe yet, have been cutting lots of lettuce and spinach from the garden, thank heavens hubby loves salad too.

Ladybug 1938 06-29-2015 05:03 AM

Jaba, never mind the PC and NC, just send me some of that Asparagus, ours is almost $4 a pound, have a friend In Michigan who sent me #30 of Rhubarb last year, froze it in 5 cups bags and this year made 2 batches of Rhubarb/Cranberry jam.. You actually let it sit overnight with sugar ( the rhubarb) and finish the next da, take about 15 minutes in all and stores in the refrig for a ear or better....

ctyankee 06-29-2015 01:47 PM

Ladybug1938 -- I'd love to get your recipe for the rhubarb/cranberry jam, if at all possible! I have one rhubarb plant in the yard & it's a great producer! I usually put rhubarb into pies, but the jam sounds delightful.

Ladybug 1938 06-29-2015 04:22 PM

I hope it's okay to put it here, real simple... 5 cups of cut up Rhubarb ( cut into small pieces) Put in large bowl and add 3 cups of sugar, mix well, cover and leave overnight. I stir it a few times until I go to bed.. In the morning bring it to a boil and boil 5 minutes... Turn off heat, add 1package ( 3oz) of Cranberry or Raspberry or Strawberry jello till thoroughly dissolved.. Put into jars, I use 1 cup jars put on lids and let cool, put in refrigerator... Keeps for a long time... Any questions let me know...

ctyankee 06-29-2015 05:19 PM

Wow, Rosemary, sounds too simple! That's it, then, just rhubarb, sugar & 1 pkg jello? No water? I think I can handle that. I'll let you know as soon as I can get enough rhubarb! Thank you so very much! :)

jaba 06-29-2015 06:09 PM

Ladybug, 1 question....can you water boil to can it for shelf life or is it strickly in frig?

omee5 06-29-2015 08:51 PM

I received these items from Jan. She did a great job and I so appreciated her time in making it.

JuneBillie 06-29-2015 10:18 PM

Husband brought us in each a ripened blackberry. Sweet, but just a bit tart. I will have to watch them day by day now to pick them at the right time. We have them growing here wild, and I remember growing up with my parents picking so many bucket fulls of them to use in cobblers, jams, etc.

Years ago I had a neighbor who grew rhubarb, and would can hers up too into jams, but also make rhubarb pie.

Doris, Jan is unable to take pictures. I guess we have to go without that one this month. :(

Ladybug 1938 06-30-2015 05:41 AM

Jaba I wouldn't try boiling because of the jello... I do sterilize the jars in boing water, and dunk the lids in before I put them on, you only get about 5 jars, I use old jelly jars from the store bought jam too..

JuneBillie 06-30-2015 07:42 AM

Rosemary do you then just keep them all in the fridge?
OH, are there other things you can do this way too?

lynnie 06-30-2015 12:56 PM

Omee, love the purse/bag pincushion.

to all who sent me fabric for the hex quilt, tonight or tomorrow, Jeanne will post pics. look for your fabrics there.
I still need a lot more to go on it, it's only about 60 x 65 now.

klaws 06-30-2015 12:58 PM

Lynnie, what kind of fabric do you need?

lawsonmugs 06-30-2015 03:33 PM

Lynnie any particular colors? ( greens, blues, reds etc) Can't wait to see it.

Ladybug 1938 06-30-2015 04:43 PM

While cleaning out some recipes I came across this one that is similar, 7 cups rhubarb, 5 cups sugar, 1 can crushed pineapple Bring to roiling boil. Reduce heat and cook for 20 minutes, remove from heat add 1 large (6oz) box of raspberry, strawberry, cranberry jello stir till dissolved, put in jars and seal...That recipe has to be 30 or more years old... I do add strawberries to the rhubarb if I don't have enough rhubarb...

jaba 06-30-2015 06:28 PM

Just wondering if I could do a water bath to seal them. Love to have jelly and jam on hand but we don't use it very often. Still have some here from what I did last year and I know it's still good but don't need more in the frig or I would end up dumping it. Your recipe sounds fantastic though for people that would use it in time.

lynnie 07-01-2015 11:19 AM

I have mostly brights, I need greens, been going thru them like water. each round takes so many.
I'm getting these last 200 done now. about 3 more hours then I can start to put them on again b4 the flowers go on.

to those that sent me fabrics. Jeanneb posted a picture under the picture catagories of the quilt so far. If you sent me fabric, it's in there. this quilt is a fabric eater for sure. Now i'm thinking of doing a double wedding ring in EPP.. wating for Paperpieces to get back to me. Anyone make one? I need some quick advice on it.

lawsonmugs 07-01-2015 02:20 PM

I'll get more in the mail. Maybe after the holiday weekend. What is EPP? Is it some kind of paper piecing?
