“Summertime” themed

A set (2) of “Summertime” themed dish towels, embellished any way you choose.
There are no precise directions or criteria. I only ask that your finished project be something that you would be excited to receive.

If you’d like to join, please send a pm to me tlambing and include the following
Real Name
Phone #
Email address
Severe Allergies
Can you swap Internationally?

Sign ups will be open until Tuesday May 31st. Names out soon after. You will have until June 30th to mail your project.

I’d really like to keep this about the project, so I am going to ask that we not send extra goodies. This will help to keep postage down as well as helping us not feel an obligation to shower our partner with gifts. If you feel you must do something extra, how about writing a poem or drawing a picture or sharing a joke or even a recipe? I bet you can think of something!

As soon as names are given, please contact your partner right away.
Please contact me asap if you are having trouble getting in contact.
Please continue to post on the thread throughout the swap. Let everyone know of your progress, post sneak peeks and encourage other swappers. It’s so much fun seeing everyones progress and sharing in our quilting friendship.

I ask that you let me know when you send your project and when you receive from your partner.

Any swapper that does not follow through with their obligation to the swap will be banned from future swaps and will receive negative (swap) feedback.

Oh My I guess I got on here in time to be first to post. Love this next months theme. I haven't made a kitchen towel in awhile. Come on ladies sign up.

Jan Rutherford 05-22-2016 05:53 PM

WOHOO.....I can handle this project for JUNE... So I AM IN :-)

LindaC 05-23-2016 04:15 AM

Ok, had to look up what a dishcloth was, here we call them teatowels. Do we buy the plain ones and decorate them or is there another way to make them?

tlambing 05-23-2016 07:54 AM

Yes LindaC Dish towels and Tea towels are one in the same. Most people buy them and then embellish. But, you can buy the Tea towel yardage and make them yourself. (my LQS sells it by the yard) Any way you see fit to make them is great!

Don't forget to send me a PM to sign up folks. It's just too hard to keep track of people in the thread.

QuilterMomma 05-23-2016 08:17 AM

Yep on it. I love to pretty up towels.

MizMelly 05-23-2016 08:36 AM

Me too!! I have a bin full of towels ready to embellish!!! And I always need more!

Linny 05-23-2016 04:18 PM

This will be a fun project. Sent PM.

LindaC 05-24-2016 01:15 AM

ok I've signed up

QuilterMomma 05-24-2016 07:13 AM

The boss is going to North Dakota next week. Will bring me back the best flour sack towels to decorate and embellish. Will be fabulous!

tlambing 05-24-2016 08:00 AM

I bought some brightly colored dish towels at the LQS last time they were on Sale. Maybe I'll wait to see what my partner might prefer before starting. Not everyone will be into my "BRIGHT" towels I'm sure.

nhnative 05-24-2016 08:50 AM

I'm in for this month. Sending you my info

MizMelly 05-24-2016 11:48 AM

Teresa, I just did the same thing! I bought a set of 12 bright solid colored cotton tea towels from Amazon for a very good price. At least they are all different colors. I'm looking forward to this swap. I just spent some time on YouTube looking at different ideas for embellishing tea towels. I have made plenty in the past, but with just a strip of novelty fabric stitched across the base. I'm branching out now that I have some new ideas. The creative juices are flowing!

We have 10 signed up so far :)

cuppy 05-24-2016 05:24 PM

Count me in for this swap. Love the theme. I did PM you.

jaba 05-24-2016 05:35 PM

I'm still looking for all the towels I bought! Can't find them anywhere so went into town today and just the same stuff everywhere in the USA from Shopko.....Digging again tomorrow, in my head, to try and remember where I put them for the "safe" keeping....

QuilterMomma 05-25-2016 07:36 AM

Story of my world Jaba, I seem to put things away for safe keeping and then can't find the buggers.

sewbizgirl 05-26-2016 05:02 PM

I am in for this! I always love pretty tea towels.... Today I found some white "diaper cloth" that feels GREAT for kitchen towels. Can't wait to embellish them. I know exactly what I am going to do.

QuilterMomma 05-30-2016 08:44 PM

I have my towels done and ready to mail. Yep, productive day today.

donna873 05-31-2016 04:18 AM

I just signed up, This is going to be a fun one.

sewbizgirl 05-31-2016 07:33 AM

Cant wait to get a name!

tlambing 06-02-2016 09:27 AM

I'm holding off until this afternoon to partner. I have one person that wanted to join, but didn't give me her info. Gonna wait on her until tonight, then will post!!

I can't wait to start :)

MizMelly 06-02-2016 11:59 AM

Oh boy! I can't wait either!! However, I have to take my main sewing machine in for servicing, so I'll have to use my smaller machine for working on this swap. Unless they are real fast and it comes back within a week (not likely).

QuilterMomma 06-02-2016 12:23 PM

Anxious to get mine in an envelope before I decide to do something else. LOL

lawsonmugs 06-02-2016 02:44 PM

Teresa how many did we end up with?

tlambing 06-02-2016 06:41 PM

SO EXCITED!!! Now to pull out the sponge paints! jk ;)

QuilterMomma 06-03-2016 08:34 AM

Been in contact with partner. We are checking our preferences, even though I have mine done, I can always keep them and send something else. I have the whole month right? HA HA HA

lawsonmugs 06-03-2016 09:54 AM

Jaba and I have PM'd and I had her in other swaps and am glad to have her again. Thanks Teresa

vovoa 06-04-2016 08:18 AM

Have PM'd my new partner, Cuppy! Just waiting to hear back. So excited, have a wonderful day everyone!

MizMelly 06-04-2016 05:52 PM

Linny and I have been in touch. I'm half done already!! It's too hot to make soap this weekend, so I have been having fun with fabric!! I'll be ready to mail next week!

tlambing 06-04-2016 05:57 PM

how many of you guys are making a matching set? I've come up with 2 totally different ideas :) Should I be making them match? not exact, same colors? I hate it when I second guess myself!

MizMelly 06-04-2016 06:02 PM

I'm doing two different ones! Kinda along the same theme but definitely different! And colors sorta match, but I used two different tea towels in the same color family, but definitely different Am I making sense?

sewbizgirl 06-04-2016 06:14 PM

I don't see why either way wouldn't work... a set of two or two completely different. I would be happy to receive either.

So far, I think I'm making a coordinating set.

jaba 06-04-2016 07:13 PM

I made them matching, guess when I read "set", I thought it meant 2 of the same. Don't see that it really matters one way or the other. Anyway, it's been a very productive day and they are done and packaged. Will be sending them on their way Monday.

tlambing 06-04-2016 08:11 PM

So it seems I should do whatever I'm feeling! I'm liking that idea!

MizMelly 06-05-2016 05:35 AM

I spent two hours last night fighting my little backup sewing machine. I gave up, part of the second tea towel is going to be done by hand. Oh, I can't wait to get my big machine back from the service center! How annoying!
I have my eye on a new, fancier machine, but I guess it's not going to be an option right now since I'm retiring at the end of the month. Sigh.

sewbizgirl 06-05-2016 05:45 AM

Congrats on your retirement, MizMelly. Machine problems are the pits... we depend on our machines so much!

jaba 06-05-2016 05:53 AM

MizMelly, if you're retiring that's why you should get it now! :)

I'm looking for a new embroidery machine and can't make up my mind. I bought a cheap 1 to see if I'd like it and I do but this machine won't do what I want and only can do 4x4" designs. Anyone have a recommend for me to look at? What do you have and why do you like it?
