Mine will go in the mail tomorrow afternoon! I am so excited and very nervous at the same time. I hope my partners like the patterns I choose, I love them but just because I do doesn't mean anyone else will LOL

IrelandDragonQuilting 06-02-2013 12:41 PM

Quilty-Louise, if you have my name, create whatever your heart wants, you are so talented and I would LOVE anything you sent my way!!

Now to figure out a design to make. I DON"T think that I am doing another

like I have made.

ME,ME,ME-If I am your partner I would LOVE a box!! :LOL

jaba 06-03-2013 03:04 PM

Both of mine went in the mail today. Hopefully by the end of the week they should arrive.

paintmejudy 06-03-2013 04:22 PM

what does Quilty-Louise's box look like? Sounds intriguing, everyone seems to want one!

My pincushions went in the mail today. Can't wait to open my packages. Now I am pacing and waiting for July!

jaba 06-03-2013 05:07 PM

Judy it's in last month's swap, post #101.

Received 1 today from Elisa, but on my way out the door. Will post all of the goodies she sent tomorrow. Fantastic package.

Quilty-Louise 06-03-2013 05:57 PM

I keep hoping that my secret partner will also post and leave me a clue
if they would like the box or not.

My feeling WON'T be hurt if they don't like it, but I want to make something
that my partner would like.

Otherwise I am thinking of making a "cupcake" or "ice cream bar" still might
make one or the other heck maybe even both (if I can figure out how to do it).

But I have some "fun" fabrics to use.

lynnie 06-03-2013 06:36 PM

ooh, louise, dotty made me an ice cream pop with a haagen daas stick, it was so cute. do you find yourself looking for new ideas for pin cushions too???

queenof2802 06-03-2013 06:40 PM

I too am struggling with something red/white/blue. Who's idea was that?! Oh, yeah, it was mine with help from lynnie. :) I have a cute pattern for a flag but really didn't want to do a flag, so generic. Maybe my partner will tell me what she was thinking. She is new to this swap, posts regularly, and has a loooong screen name.

Hey this could be me!! I dunno LOL Nothing wrong with a good ol flag. I did make my partners two different items, one a boot in red white and blues and the other a cream kitty on a blue pillow with red white and blue pins. and if it isn't me maybe these ideas might help?!

queenof2802 06-03-2013 06:56 PM

They sound pretty! Can't wait for your partners to receive so we can see pictures!!!

Hey this could be me!!

And we will just have to see, !

Blue Cat 06-03-2013 08:24 PM

quilting dragon,

i usually keep all my pincushions up where the two fur terrorists can't reach them. i was lucky, tho, i finally found them both. the first will be on its way tomorrow and the second a day or two after that. i put in lots of goodies to bribe them into forgiving me.:D

love,
laura

paintmejudy 06-04-2013 06:31 AM

Oh my, just looked up Quilter-Louise's box - lovely! No wonder you have a list of people who would like a box, put me on the list LOL

lynnie 06-04-2013 07:29 AM

now i'm in trouble. it helps you stretch your imagination a bit. it's good for brain health , so says dr. oz.

Old_Rosebud 06-04-2013 09:45 AM

QL - if you have me for a partner I would <3 a sewing box! And if you don't have me for a partner, can you pretty please make me one anyway? :D ;) Seriously tho - I am good with anything you ladies want to make! You guys are so talented and creative. Half the fun of being in this swap is to see what everyone creates!
I too am struggling to make a r/w/b pincushion. I wanted to do something 'fun' but I keep coming back to americana -type designs...

lynnie 06-04-2013 04:24 PM

mine is done and going in the mail tomorrow. I was waiting for a design to make something extra, but it didn't work out. I did make something extra though. hope you both like it. happy quilting

Well mine are well on their way to their new homes! My SPs should have them Friday! YAY I did take photos, one had a camera and one did not. (hope i didn't give it away!)

IrelandDragonQuilting 06-04-2013 06:27 PM

Jaba... YUMMY!! lucky you!

paintmejudy 06-05-2013 06:58 AM

Fresh asparagus, my favorite. Haven't had a really good batcj since I moved here, used to grow asparagus and rhubard when I lived in upstate NY, miss them both so much. The asparagus in the grocery store here is either those skinny little stalks, or big fat left-to-get-too-big stalks.

Quilty-Louise 06-05-2013 08:20 AM

I remember as a kid living here in Colorado that asparagus used
to grow wild EVERYWHERE along the roads in the country next
to the ditches/gullys.

It was free for the picking, of course this was back in the 70's.

Now days though I wouldn't trust it, but than I don't know if there
is still any wild asparagus left growing.

Quilty-Louise 06-05-2013 08:31 AM

I started working on my partners pincushion last night.

Decided that since so many people seems to like the box that
I would just go ahead and make my partner one too.

It takes a "fair" amount of preparing the box before I can start
turning it into a pincushion. First I have to "sand" the edges and
surface of the box to make sure there are no sharp edges or
splinters after I do that than I need to wipe all the dust from sanding
off. Then comes the painting part of the box, that takes the longest
because I have to paint the inside with 2-3 coats letting dry in between
each coat, then repeat that for the outside of the box.

While the paint dries I work on the "pincushion" and emery sand cushion
since those are made by hand (for the most part). Plus I get all the little
"supplies" for the inside of the box gathered up ready to be placed inside
the box when finished.

Last 2 things I do before mailing (IF I don't forget) is take pictures and
sign the bottom of the box with all the info needed about the swap.

Now if all my local Dollar Tree stores would get the boxes back in stock
I have wiped out 4 stores and ONLY came away with 7 boxes total.

But I am working ALL this so I don't have much time to work on my
swap yet.

Pat625 06-05-2013 10:02 AM

Working on my needlecases today..Making one for myself and an extra for my secret santa too..hopfully I will also get my pincushions done too

mary quilting 06-05-2013 12:27 PM

JuneBillie 06-05-2013 01:15 PM

Is asparagus hard to grow? I love it, but have never grown it. If it is easy I would love to try then. Can you container grow it? Gee, sorry, don't mean to turn this into a garden forum. lol.... I always come and look for all the pretty things you folks are making, and read what you are working on.

Pat625 06-05-2013 01:20 PM

Needle cases DONE~!! Hoping to get a start on Pin cushions, but keep changing my mind about which one to make!:p

lynnie 06-05-2013 01:38 PM

Oh my goodness, look what I got today from jaba! Jaba, I love the pincushion, it is fabulous! And she also sent me a needle case -- I've never had one before, am so excited with this little extra! the fabric for the needle case and the bottom of the pincushion are the same, a beautiful fabric that looks aged. Thank you sooo much, jaba, they are perfect and I love both of my goodies.

Not hard to grow, the hard part is after you plant it , it takes about 4 years for it to produce enough that you can start freezing for winter. It still grows wild here along all the ditch banks but we don't need to go and do that any more. Nice having our own little plot. Don't think it would grow well in container as it turns leafy and feathery sort of at the plants season end and those new little seeds root themselves in the soil so it will produce more plants.

jaba 06-05-2013 02:56 PM

Glad you like it Judy, had to stick with the patriotic. Kind of plain, but it's standard for the theme I guess, kind of an American symbol to me

IrelandDragonQuilting 06-05-2013 06:51 PM

You lucky gal you paintmejudy! beautiful pincushion and needle case!!

Quilty-L that is a lot of work to make your boxes, I know whoever is lucky enough to get one from you will be very fortunate!

JuneBillie 06-05-2013 08:08 PM

Thanks jaba. I guess at first one just has to have some patience.

JuneBillie 06-05-2013 08:11 PM

Judy, those are very nice pincushion and needle book. They are just right for the holiday, and pretty for all year long. Have fun using them. I love the ones I have from other swaps. I have one set sitting in my living room close to wear I sit and hand sew while watching tv, and another in my sewing room.

Pat625 06-05-2013 10:29 PM

Pin cushions almost done!! Just need to fill and close!! Now time to get some sleep~~

jaba 06-06-2013 04:29 AM

JuneBillie you might check with a nursery there, maybe they would have plants already started. Or if they grow wild there just dig 'em up and plant in your yard. That would be faster than starting from seed. Water, sunshine and talk to them really nice, then before long you'll have a feast.

I haven't started on my pincushions yet, this weekend I will have some time to sew. I love the patriotic theme, but really any pincushion could work for this month. Just make it in those colors, and you could use lighter colors to make a softer look.

I have already received my first firmy, from paintmejudy and she sent me TWO pincushions!

Aren't they beautiful! I really love the hand embroidery, such patience to make all those french knots. I told Judy I had been meaning to make one of those flower pincushions, but now I have one I didn't have to make and that's even more special. Thanks swap partner!

Old_Rosebud 06-06-2013 05:27 AM

Beautiful work ladies! I love the fabrics on Jaba's pincushion and needlecase. Paintmejudy - the flower pincushion looks great in the r/w/b color scheme! Two lucky recipients for sure.
I keep trying to think of a way to make a 'fire cracker' pincushion. I just can't translate it from an idea into reality! Grr.

lynnie 06-06-2013 07:59 AM

I received these from Jaba, she enclosed a pincushion surprise, its stuffed with crushed walnut shells to keep my needles sharp, Jayla keeps trying to take it, she thinks its a juggling ball. THank you so much for the beautiful needle case, it is so pretty, my house is getting redecorated in red white and blue.
