Yep, I agree, that orange does creep up on you and make you start liking it. I've always disliked it intensely, but I'm beginning to warm up to it some. The things you do for your grandchildren! Gotta' love 'em!

GramE 01-07-2017 06:01 PM

Beautiful block, Joan!

ljdugas31 01-07-2017 09:59 PM

Joan Love your block! Well we have 12 inches of snow .Not happy!

Janice McC 01-08-2017 04:52 AM

We had a dusting of snow Friday night but nothing like you've got, LJD, thank goodness. It's 16 degrees now though. Brrr. 🙂

Lovely block, Mona. More oranges! Am going to start looking around to find an orange print for myself. I've disliked it forever yet I love cheddar. It's not stretch from cheddar to orange. Hmmm. Never thought about that before. Cheddar is mostly orange. My, my.

Joanelizbay, beautiful block. I love your use of red in it.

I added red to mine and it makes it pop I think. I was looking for a blue to match my focus fabric and wouldnt you know out of a dozen or more "blues" not a single one matched the blue in the focus?? UGH...I agree with Janice..I wish connecting threads would bring this pattern back in any of the colors they had!!

Sounds like a good reason to stay in and sew for a week! Brrrr....

Mona G 01-08-2017 07:51 AM

We are in the deep freeze again -9, but thankfully no wind.
Dropped off my Boom 16 quilt to the longarm quilter yesterday. Finished tote bag for my hairdresser. Now off to church after that groceries and then some more sewing.

Lstew2212 01-08-2017 08:58 AM

I love the sample blocks, ladies. It's really cold here too. My husband is getting ready for the play off game between the Steelers and the Dolphins, So I am in my sewing room organizing and trying to find something to sew until my Boom fabrics arrive. I might just try my hand at QAYG today, It is on my bucket list.

By the way, My fabric will be mailed on Monday. Our furnace went out yesterday and I did not make it to the post office.

I like your fabric.

Thank you. It came in Friday. I have enough to make her some pillow shams to go with her quilt. I was a happy camper to find that they still had it in stock.

LOL marija...indeed they are!!

Kassaundra 01-08-2017 04:58 PM

LOL LOL LOL I get that a lot. Yes they have a rare (and completely natural) genetic mutation. It is called scaleless. They do not have scales on their legs like all other chickens they also do not have feather follicles.

Janice McC 01-09-2017 09:45 AM

Regarding shipping packages, you may ship in whatever container you wish as long as there's tracking. The mailers I use are ONLY available at USPS.com. They are free but you must make an account but you need not supply any credit cards unless you order something for which there is a charge. I've never heard anyone say they found the padded priority flat rate envelopes at a post office and mine said they're not a normally stocked item. If you want them for future booms, I'd go ahead and order a package of three or five now. I cannot recall the exact number of the smallest available bundle. I order two sets of 15 every couple of months.

Lstew2212 01-09-2017 05:00 PM

My fabrics are in the mail, I just sent Janice my tracking number. Yea. now to sit and wait.

I have been researching some different blocks to try out, going a little out of my comfort zone. I have been practicing my 1/4 inch seams. I'm doing really good, proud of my self.

All2Pieces 01-09-2017 05:24 PM

Okay everyone - I just gotta laugh about this... I ordered 10 padded envelopes thru USPS.com, thinking that's all I would need for a while. When the website said I had maxed out what could be ordered, I double-checked. Yep, only 10 in the cart. Today this large box is delivered and I'm wondering Wha-a-at?!? Turns out I was shipped at least a 100 of bubble wrap Priority Mail envelopes! LOL! Guess I will share the wealth and restock my local post office.

I've done that too! But, oddly enough, I have used up all the bags.

Yes, an order of "1" means one package of ten!

Janice McC 01-10-2017 05:42 AM

Lol! Easy to do. Ordering 10 when in fact you are ordering 10 PACKAGES of 10 or 15! Almost did it myself. And I just checked the website, and the smallest quantity they'll ship now is 10. That's changed from my last order.

LOL, Billi! :D

Janice, glad to know my package got to you without bursting at the seams! It was stuffed so tight.

joanelizbay 01-10-2017 09:53 AM

I did the the same thing the lst time I ordered!! I didn't get 100 but got 20 because I just asked for 2. The next time I "noticed" the little note at the top that says they come in 10 each packages! lol I cant imagine getting 100! But hey Billis right...you must sign up for the next 80 booms!! How funny

Janice McC 01-10-2017 10:28 AM

Sewbizgirl, you couldn't have fit one more thread in your package, much less another f8. It was a wonder to behold. And it was a wonder it didn't simply explode when I opened it. You're the Packing Queen!

Bite your collective tongues, boomers! I'll be retired (and now obviously hiding out from all of you crazy people) in the New Mexico desert long before we get to 20 more.

I made myself a block this afternoon. I have no idea what the name of this block is. Anybody know?

Kassaundra 01-10-2017 02:16 PM

Beautiful libster, I don't know the name, but there was a recent thread asking about that block, maybe the poster got an answer.

Kassaundra 01-10-2017 02:21 PM

Well I found the thread but no one posting on it knew the name. http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...k-t285078.html

Libster 01-10-2017 02:25 PM

Thanks, Kass. That's where I first saw this. Nobody there knew what the name of it was either. It looks simple, but it's a pain in the rear to make. Too many thick seams for me.

All2Pieces 01-10-2017 05:11 PM

Really pretty block. I saw it on the other thread too. It looks like a simple 9 patch layout. Why not call it a winding ribbon 9 patch until someone can discover the original name?

sewbizgirl 01-10-2017 05:16 PM

Pretty block, Libster. I love that quilt that Kass linked to. Maybe the actual block doesn't have a name. Sometimes only the quilt has a name with the more modern patterns.

All2Pieces 01-10-2017 05:16 PM

Janice - sounds like you've got a job as hostess for the foreseeable future. I know I really appreciate the effort you put in coordinating these swaps. BTW, could you use a few bubble wrap envelopes? :)

sewbizgirl 01-10-2017 06:01 PM

Yeah Janice, there's your job security!
:D:D:D:D:D

Janice McC 01-11-2017 05:32 AM

Hobby security. I do this for fun. :D

QuilterMomma 01-11-2017 08:41 AM

Been dealing with snow and cars breaking down or getting stuck or going off the road. Hopefully will get in mail tomorrow. Sorry for the delay. Life has not been fun. Now I have a cold to top it all off.; That's what happens when you help push people out of the snow and then shoveling it.

terriamn 01-11-2017 10:26 AM

QM, hope your cold doesn't last long. Can you snuggle in for a few days.

we have had snow and rain here. The one night when I was driving my sister to my house after we had spent another day at the hospital my car was sliding all over and the roads were packed with a late rush hour. Was a nervous wreck by the time we arrived home.

QuilterMomma 01-11-2017 12:57 PM

Wish I could, but work calls. They have finally plowed our subdivision I am told, so won't have to deal with that issue for a bit until the next storm comes in.

joanelizbay 01-11-2017 04:01 PM

Missouri Dept of Transportation has issued a NO DRIVING warning for Fri night into Sat. Suppose to get freezing rain and sleet. The weather map shows Missouri ALL in purple..Something tells me I wont be going to work Friday! :) Fell down 2 steps last Friday with my grandson. Thought I was ok but shoulder keep bothering me so had to have an MRI today. Can anyone tell me how people can invent things like copy machines, cell phones, heart transplants and they cant make a comfortable BIGGER machine to have an MRI in?? I hate those things...my shoulder is really painful and they wedge it in there and say "now dont move for 20 minutes"....yeah right...Hope its just a pinched nerve! And glad the kid wasnt hurt when I slammed him into door then fell! LOL His comment....BAD grandma!! :)

Hope you feel better soon. Stay safe if you do have to go out.

sewbizgirl 01-11-2017 05:33 PM

Hope nothing serious is wrong with your shoulder, Joan. Did they see anything with the MRI? Those are so scary... all that weird noise. Esp. if you are claustrophobic. I had one of my head a couple of weeks ago because of the vertigo. If I wasn't totally drugged up when they did it, I might have freaked out in that tube. The operator covered my eyes with a cloth... I was thankful for that.

BAD Grandma... Ha. :D Poor little guy!

mollymunchkin 01-11-2017 05:44 PM

I have to have meds if I have an MRI. I'm claustrophobic enough that those things send my anxiety through the roof!
Joan, stay in and stay safe. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to quilt.

My grandmother slipped on ice and fell with my daughter (35 years ago). Fortunately neither one was hurt. Hopefully there's nothing seriously wrong with your shoulder.
