Oh no please don't! I love your farm wall hangings.

Annaquilts 03-15-2021 04:42 PM

I am in again. I have an idea but I am not locked in yet. All can change. I have been camping a lot and spending time in nature, on the beach and walking. What has everyone else been up to?

R-sea 03-17-2021 01:53 AM

I have been doing much the same as you Annaquilts plus going to a patchwork retreat and in two days time off to a WA camping rally south of Perth . After this it will be looking for wall hanging ideas

Annaquilts 03-17-2021 01:07 PM

Sounds lovely r-sea. Maybe one day I get to visit Australia and do some camping there. It has been our dream.

Teen 03-19-2021 09:26 AM

Waiting for the weather to warm up a bit and looks like today will be the day for me to go out and till up my garden patch to get ready for planting. We hope to hit the road to Southern Calif in a few weeks to see MIL now that we are all vaccinated...then a trip to Georgia to see my mom. We miss our mothers so much. Got our fishing licenses, too, so can’t wait to hit the rivers and lakes. Safe travels R-Sea & Anna...

granky 03-29-2021 05:12 AM

Since our quilting community worries when someone seems to 'disappear' from the board, I thought I would explain my planned future absence. I am blessed with a large family that loves my quilts. (What more could a quilter ask for?????), Anyway, I started counting who had one, and who didn't. Seems I left out a chunk of one generation....the great grandies, so am going to take the time to make something for seven boys and three girls. It also seems a couple of great great grandies managed to sneak in when I wasn't looking, and another is on the way. Since I'm not getting any younger, I decided to get busy! I also have to admit that I am eyeing the round robins, and thought seriously of speaking to Patrice about starting a four month wall hanging round robin....but that, if it happens, is in the future. I'll be lurking, of course. Have fun!

skaduzy 03-29-2021 07:15 PM

Thanks for your update Granky.....you are going to be so, so busy but what an accomplishment when you finish. Hope you will not only lurk but post a picture now and then of your progress......will miss you!

Gracious! Has there been a major catastrophe that I haven't heard about??? Is there anyone left alive out there? Even though I chose to sit out a swap or two I still love to see what is being worked on...and hear how everyone is doing...for instance, has anyone heard from Rhonda??? Has she had her lung transplant? If not, how close is she to her weight goal? Hey ladies, she is our Hostess! Meanwhile, I asked great grandies for favorite colors, and thought I was doing fine...made the first flimsie (red was his choice) only to find out that he really wanted Louisville Cardinal Red....so back to the drawing board. The first pic is the one I made before I knew about the Cardinals. The second is the one he will receive. Meanwhile, what are you working on????

Teen 04-18-2021 08:09 AM

Still alive here, Granky! Your projects turned out great and will be loved, I’m sure... sounds like you are chipping away at your list of family.

I have not started my WH project but I did pull the fabric and will make it in May. I am planning trips right now and making things to bring with me for our mothers. My mother is moving in with my sister and is in the process of selling contents of her 3-story house. I had my sister mail me all of her Amish cross-stitch pictures and I am designing a custom quilt for her. I wanted to combine her cross-stitch with some applique blocks so it’s taking time. I designed quilt on EQ8 and I am so pleased with results so far. Also, I’m making some placemats for my MIL....plus gardening....so busy busy..

Rhonda would bop in, typically, at check in with us so I’m praying all is well with her and Hubbie..

granky 04-18-2021 01:36 PM

Thanks for responding, Teen....I was beginning to wonder if anyone really was out there! Guess everyone is busy enjoying spring.....

Hi Granky from Western Australia. I haven't started my wall hanging yet . still thinking what to do. I have though just finished a small one for a friend who has a sick American friend and they have a dairy she wanted to cheer her up so asked me to do one for her showing Australia and a dairy farm . Hopefully I can remember to post a photo

granky 04-19-2021 04:52 AM

R-sea that is wonderful! Did you start with a plain piece of fabric and applique all those creatures on it???? That is awesome!

Thanks Granky for the shout out!! I'm still kicking. I am on O2 and have been on quarantine for 13 months, We don't get out much. Hubby has been to dr appts as he is still dealing with cancer. He is doing well tho. I did several months of Cardiac Pulmonary rehab and "graduated" the end of March LOL they two ladies (RNs) had me put on a gown and cap and I looked so silly LOL I lost almost 30 but still have 70 to go before the transplant team will consider me for a lung transplant. I need to reschedule my Pulmonary Function Test to see how much breathing ability I still have. The last test it was 26%. I keep busy with several groups online and some are quilty. I miss my grandkids soooo much. But life goes on. We do takeout and eat in the car. One restaurant is our favorite and they do a great job of distancing so I feel ok going in there. but I don't go in anywhere else. I am getting tired of being quarantined tho. I won't take the shot or go in stores until my Pulmonary dr says I can. I'm trying to get my mojo back and get back into quilting. I have a round robin that I need to work on. And I have been trying to talk myself into making some bookmarks as prizes for one of my F online quilt groups. I do a bingo game there and send out prizes.

granky 04-19-2021 04:47 PM

LOL Rhonda! Congrats on the graduation! I can just imagine how you felt...so-o-o-o glad you're doing well. Keep us posted, please....(when you feel like it....)

skaduzy 04-19-2021 04:48 PM

I’ll try to get this all in one message https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif

Granky, love your quilts.....how many more to go? They look like they were a lot of work but worth it when for your family.

R-sea, that wall hanging in so cute, the animals are adorable, also a lot of work to cut them all out and appliqué. Your friend will love it! I do, too.

Teen, this must be so hard for your mom to clear out everything. A 3 story house is BIG! Your quilt sounds nice and I hope you will post pictures. You must be excited to finally get to see your mom and your mother-in-law. This quarantine is getting old! We are thinking about downsizing, too, but I have so much junk in this big house that I don’t know where to start.

And Rhonda, that’s 10 more since the last time we communicated. Great job so far and I know you will reach your goal. You look like a high school girl in your cap and gown, congratulations on reaching another of your goals. Just keep doing what you’ve been doing and before you know it...success!

As for us here in Ohio, nice weather can’t get here soon enough. We’ve been pretty good. No COVID at least and glad about that. We don’t go anywhere and I am so stir crazy as is Cliff. He had a bad spell in March and we made a trip to the hospital for another stent. That’s #4 in his heart now but he’s still very mobile and very ornery. I’m so very thankful for that.
Have many wall hanging ideas going through my mind but haven’t started yet. Guess I better hurry https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/hunf.png June will be here before I know it.

IHappy Graduation, Rhonda!! I think that is so cool that the RN’s celebrated something so important... we are proud of you and hope you can continue to do so well...fantastic picture.... those grand babies need you....and we do too! So keep up the progress! Big Hug!!

R-Sea....love your farm wall hanging! Exceptional work...geesh... she should love this...

Skaduzy....downsizing is an overwhelming process, for sure. I can hear it in my mom’s voice when I call...I’m so grateful that two of my siblings are local to her and are doing most of the work. She officially vacates and moves in with sister over Mother’s Day weekend. I’ll be back to help with selling off the contents and putting the house on the market. I call everyday..twice a day...to interrupt her day so she doesn’t do too much....our calls last an hour so I feel better knowing my calls force her to rest. Anywhooo...it’s almost over... I’m glad to hear Cliff is doing well....that trip to hospital was scary, I bet. We take lots of roads trips to see our new home state to avoid the stir crazies! Having a new home has helped since we spend time with projects. This week...fencing for 3 acres of pasture. Michael teases me that we are going to start raising goats. NOT! Lol... hang in there and continue to keep safe!

R-sea 04-20-2021 03:03 AM

I would like you to come and visit too Rhonda. What part of Australia did your husband visit? I know a lot of Americans came to Perth . An aunty of mine married one. Loved your photo. You are doing well

Rhonda 04-20-2021 05:42 PM

Thank you my friends I am so blessed with such wonderful people in my life here and in real life. I so enjoy all that you gals create and all you discuss here!! As I always say you make this swap stay alive with your conversations and pictures.

I am trying to downsize too. I have had boxes piled at one end of my table for a long time. My grandson built a large closet for me and I filled it but still have stuff to find a home for. I am so tired of walking around STUFF LOL
I know it is hard to make decisions. We live in a small home and I am a terrible horrible collector LOL And when my mom moves something out of her house it ends up in mine more often than not! I just have to grit my teeth and let go of things that aren't really that important to me.

I want to get a recumbent exercise bike for both hubby and me. So I do have motivation to get my self in gear to sort and get rid of stuff to make room for the recumbant bike. this is the kind that has a real seat to it not a small bike seat. My seat won't fit on a regular bike seat any more LOL So this one you are sitting and working your legs and arms. I fell in love iwth the NuStep one in therapy the first time I did therapy on my knee 5 yrs ago. This time with my breathing problems this is the perfect answer for me. I also have a treadmill so both will help a lot. So just have to push myself to walk on the treadmill more.

The Midwest had an unexpected snow fall this morning. I get up about noon so I never saw it. It melted soon after landing. thank goodness! LOL We want flowers and warm weather and NO MORE SNOW LOL

Rhonda 04-20-2021 05:49 PM

Has anyone of you been in a Round Robin before and or hosted one? I am hosting one on one of my groups and the problem came up where one lady is a heavy smoker and one of the ladies in her group is highly allergic to the point it closes her throat. so I had her send that round to me.

how do you deal with smells in the fabrics you receive in a swap? I've never really had this problem before.
In this swap we had one lady who was allergic to cats and she would have her husband run the vacuum over her pkg before she opened it. I just avoided giving her anyone who smoked.

I am going to go check out some of the Round Robin rules on here. I did take over and host one for a friend when she was away from the group one year but that was not for very long. And that was a long time ago

any tips or ideas? thanks!

Annaquilts 04-20-2021 06:01 PM

If people have a severe allergy then they should not receive from what is causing their issues, smoking, cat, etc.. If I am concerned I let hubby open something and I can wash or vacuum it or hang it on the porch. I also think if you are that allergic, anaphalactic, maybe a swap is not for you.

Rhonda 04-20-2021 06:14 PM

Thanks Anna I plan to be more specific in the rules in the future.
Actually the gal that was allergic did try to soak the fabric she laid it out in the sun and that didn't work. She tried several products and when I got the fabric it still reeked of nicotine. I laid it in front of my fan not really thinking about it and left it there a few days. When I picked it up the fan did a pretty good job at getting rid of the smell, the fabric was just a few inches in front of my fan on the same level . I didn't know a fan could help get rid of the smell that way but it did help a lot.

Just recently, Rhonda, my sister sent me our mothers cross-stitch pictures for me to make a quilt, which I’m working on right now. When I opened the package, it just reeked. My sister washed them before sending but she is a smoker so laying them out to dry at her house was useless. I carefully washed them again....twice....and finally they were ok. Smokers cannot pick up on the smell but it just permeates everything.

I agree with Anna....

My mothers cross-stitch are all Amish so that is my theme for quilt....Here are a couple of blocks....if interested...I’m mixing applique and pieced blocks in and amongst her cross-stitches...

granky 04-23-2021 06:32 AM

Teen...those are lovely! I do hope you'll show us the quilt when it's done....? Of course we would also like to follow the progress.

Rumbols 05-03-2021 07:25 AM

Hello everyone. I finished my wall hanging and sent Rhonda a pm. I decided on cone flowers this time. Was trying to clean out my sewing room and found a partial pattern for cone flowers from about 10 years ago. It is in pinks and reds (my faves).

Sorry I have not been on the board lately. Doing PT for my right shoulder. Doc wanted me not to do computers or sewing for a couple of months. I was missing both and my shoulder was able to move more, so I decided to sew and visit you all.
Have another PT session next week but hoping to get back to quilting. I have about 8 quilts to quilt and 3 to start sewing the top. So I may not be too chatty in the coming months, But know I will be thinking of you all.

Congrats to everyone on what they have accomplished so far. And good luck in the future. Stay safe.

Teen 05-03-2021 02:22 PM

Hi, Rumbols.....So good to hear from you and super proud of you for following doctors guidance. We want you well and enjoying your craft soon, too, so rest up. Sounds like you have a list of projects to tackle. Your WH sounds so pretty. I had to look up cone flowers....so pretty...

I’m finally in California visiting MIL and my sister. So happy to finally see them and know it is safer to do so. This COVID stuff really was hard on so many families forced separation. It’s wonderful to see them personally and not just on a video chat. Beautiful Calif. weather so enjoying that too.

I’ll be starting my WH when I get home this week. Everything is cut and ready... Keep safe...

Working on this little cutie. It has a spring summer feel for me.

Rumbols 05-05-2021 01:59 PM

Very pretty Annaquilts. My favorite colors. Thanks Teen for your comments. They are appreciated. All pics posted so far look terrific.

One note on my wall hanging. The pattern I used was from 2010, per what I wrote on the pattern at the time. It was a line drawing only with no notes on who actually drew it or instructions on how to put it together. Anyway, I have since found that someone posted a pic of a similar block by Pumpkin Patch Patterns (Beatrice Rieske) used last year for a Row by Row quilt. Just wanted to let everyone know I did not poach the pattern. My WH already has label and I am not doing it over.

I sound mean, don't I. I don't mean to. But I was quite shocked to see my WH center on someone else's quilt, even if was just a block. Next time I will do more research first. Thanks for listening.

Teen 05-08-2021 01:58 PM

Anna....adorable!!! I love it!

Rumbols.....You are always so creative. In the quilting world, it’s hard to not create something that someone else does, too. I suppose that is why I think it’s useless to copyright patterns....We see the same patterns by different people all the time. So, I’m totally a poacher....I create quilts on just pictures alone all the time...lol... Kudos to you for creating something from a line drawing....yikes..

I’ve returned from California and my goal is to start WH tomorrow...

MarionsQuilts 05-09-2021 11:35 AM

Hello all!

I have been absent for a while now - I was doing the valley blossoms quilt (the one by Judy) .. oh boy LOL .. why do I do these things!

Anyway, it's all done except for the assembly, and right now, I don't even want to look at it, let alone piece it all together - so it's folded up nice and in a drawer LOL

I will only join the swap if I get what I want to do done in time. I bought the booklet by Cindy Needham for quilting with linen .. and I want to make a little wall hanging.

I'm going to take a break for a week or so from quilting, let the ideas simmer, and then I'll come in and give it a shot.

I've just read through the posts, and nice to see that everyone is doing well.

I also have to get my butt out in the garden and start weeding, it's finally starting to warm up!

Take care,

Marion

Here it is..

When I made this for my sewing room a few months ago I thought it was so cute I decided to make one for the swap. This is a mini WH 15” sq. The pattern is called Mini Moose Chase by, Sassafras Designs... The moose heads are PP and the rest is applique... Next to polka dots, stripes are my next fav.... I’m letting Rhonda know I am ready to ship!!

Hi, Marion!! Hope you can join us this round...

Annaquilts 05-12-2021 07:08 AM

Teen as always your wallhanging quilts are adorable. They look like a happy bunch in their bright colors.Very cute!
