March Mug Rug Swap: Destination Spring time!

Ok here we go again!!

March Mug Rug Swap! This months theme is DESTINATIONS! in Spring!

What is a mug rug? A mug rug is an item you use to hold your cup of coffee or tea or soda and a small snack plate/napkin beside it. Its approximately 9x7 or larger so you can put that little plate on it and a mug.

1. You will be assigned a partner. This is not a secret pal swap. Each partner will contact the other partner for addresses. You are encouraged to talk to each other and find out little things about them so you can make a special gift just for them. This month we are doing a mug rug in the theme of DESTINATION SPRING TIME.. pick a destination that would be wonderful to go on right now.. get you away from winter and home. Is it the beach in sunny Hawaii? is it a Mexican holiday? or is it the ski resort in Denver that makes you smile inside. pick one! then stitch up a mug rug with that in mind. use tropical prints? perhaps sandy beaches? or snowy trees and cabins? whatever is your idea of a spring holiday sew it up in a concept mug rug. it doesn't have to be an appliqued wonder. just pieced with fabrics that represent what sounds marvelous to you! then share it with your partner and watch them smile when they guess where you would go if you could .. maybe its southwestern desert scenes? (drool lol). its artistic venture we are on this month. get creative. heck you quilt of course you can!

2. You must quilt your mug rug in a fashion that you are most comfortable with. If you don't know how to paper piece maybe stick to regular piecing for this item. It must be sewn, with 100 percent quilters cotton, bound, and with batting in between to protect furniture from possible destruction due to heat/cold. Be creative. Send something you would be proud to put out yourself. Be kind about what you receive. Any complaints MUST COME TO ME ONLY. Let me deal with anything please. The quilting board is a place we all come to enjoy ourselves, make friends, share ideas. Not everyone is a perfect quilter. BUT everyone tries. We all started somewhere so be considerate when posting.

3. You must send by March 27th and send me notice that you have sent to your partner. Any delays must be shared with me prior to this date. I want everyone to receive a partners trade. This calling on angels is getting old around here. Be responsible. you sign up? you send. Period.

4. You are free to include tea/coffee and a small treat to go with your mug rug. If your feeling very generous you can send a bit more but nothing is obligated. fat quarters or other fabric related items are also perfect little add on's...any of the above are always loved. YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO DO THIS however so keep this in mind when sending and receiving.

5. Any questions? contact me immediately and I will help you get started.

SIGN UP TODAY! You must send a private PM to me letting me know: name, address, phone number for emergency use by me only, and if you have a preference of what you receive just send me a hint and I will share it with your partner.. Names will be given out by March 2nd the latest. sign up today! You are required by the board to send things you sign up for. If you don't you risk having the ability to swap again in other events so make sure you follow through with what you sign up for. Again per board rules anything about your partner or the item they swap to you that does not please you is NOT to be posted on the board but sent in private email to me to sort out. Its polite and its the right thing to do.

also! please take a picture before you send as your partner might not be able to post one! don't post until your sure your partner has received and you are sure they cant post their own picture. thanks!

It couldn't have happened to a nicer gal...And Ms. Lynnie, when you get your surprise pkg, you need to describe in explicit detail what you get! I know you can't take pics...bummer..

I'm in for the swap...It was great to observe last month, but oh so hard to not play..
Unfortunately for y'all, I TALK either way...so I might as well play and be useful...lol

Y'all mention flowers and cats, I have this fabric, and I'm sorry, but to me it's slightly um, very "unpretty":

Bad Zoey! Bad, bad Zoey! (Has she been moonlighting in my sewing room???) lol

Patchesnposies 02-18-2015 05:33 PM

Well Kif......the flowers are a bit......um.....er....bright! But the presence of the kitties makes it beautimus!

J_cody 02-18-2015 06:11 PM

Ok this sounds interesting, not sure how I would quilt a destination but I am willing to give this a go, is it too late to be included.

Not too late at all! Today is the first day to sign up and sign ups usually close a few days (a week?) later! At any rate, you aren't late. :)

letsquilt 02-18-2015 06:40 PM

Just signed up for the March swap.

jeanne49 02-18-2015 07:27 PM

What the heck, I'm in again. Can't seem to get enough of these little things - don't use them cause they're too pretty. Sending my PM tonight.

Nelco 02-18-2015 08:10 PM

I am in again. I am sure you still have all my info. :-)

Jan Rutherford 02-18-2015 10:14 PM

yippee I am in march...... AND my sister wants TO DO THIS SWAP ALSO. She lives with me and sees all the cute pretty fun stuff I receive and send and wants to join in on the fun too. GINGER ( board name GRACE) is my sister...she's in also.

I kinda like this fabric especially with kitties in it. Maybe we could do one for your DH, Destination Spring at Lambeau!

Lynnie I think I have that kitties at the beach fabric too, but it's back in Wisconsin. So are some kitties in flowers that I bought many years ago. Dang, wish I would have packed up more of my fabric to bring here.

Brrr, it's cold here this am, it's 29* outside right now! All the cold weather in the north is dipping down to the Gulf, it's bad but not as bad as the Midwest and Northeast has been. Stay warm everyone!

It's a good thing my Zoey can't read or she would think she was the one being scolded. lol
Here she is wrapped up in a quilt on our recliner in the sewing room. It was a very cold day that day! lol This is pretty much all she does in my sewing room…. lays around, snoozing.

Vitality 02-19-2015 06:21 AM

Oh Jan, I would love 29. It is -2 here at the moment. The high today is Zero.
Ugh. Tonight it should go to -15 and high tomorrow is 8.

TPr9258 02-19-2015 06:30 AM

I would like to try this month if it is ok, I have never done a mug rug before, but willing to try, need a change from the rag quilts I have been doing since right now its -7 with a wind chill of -19 here in Jersey.

Elisabrat 02-19-2015 06:34 AM

oh my gosh I want your dog! its so adorable! let him sleep in the quilt he is a tad cold .. poor thing lol.

this next swap doesn't have to be a literal translation it can be cute (with little kitties in it) it can be abstract with a crooked tree or a sandal on the beach.. you can use fabrics to say what your thinking. you are not obligated to do an applique! use trees, river rocks, deer etc for mountain choices or say water, sand and crab fabric for a beach theme.. go wild get creative. I know you got it saw it last month in all the great interpretations. I have lots of sign ups. I hope tis leads to a variety of views! just wait til you talk to your partner. do you do their destination or yours? I am sure it will be a terrific month!

regm 02-19-2015 09:02 AM

I would like to try this swap. Force me to think outside the box.

lynnie 02-19-2015 09:10 AM

Jan, I have the same fabric too somewhere. where, I don't know.
Vita, what a cute puppy!!

I have some ideas, but I bet it's not what my partner was thinking.

Vitality 02-19-2015 10:33 AM

Thanks, Zoey is happy for the compliments…she knows she deserves them ;) lol
Hope ya'll don't mind me crashing the party. I am going to sit out swaps for a while but would miss chatting with you guys too much to skip that too.
Need some positive stuff to read and whatnot

Jan, Glad to see you are in this month and VERY happy to see that your sister has joined in the fun, too!

dfelker 02-19-2015 03:54 PM

I'm IN and already have an idea!! Now if it only works out. :)

lynnie 02-19-2015 04:56 PM

Vita, you're always welcome to come and sit and chat awhile love to hear what you have to say, and if you have any new blocks or designs, would love to see them. tell your Zoey that my Zoey says hi. My Zoey wants to know if Your Zoey is a Princess like she is???

Vitality 02-19-2015 05:41 PM

LOL Lynnie, my Zoey is a princess but she is also a bit of a independent tomboy type. We are still getting to know each other… I just got her in the beginning of September. She has been a big help to me during some tough times. For a young dog she is very quiet and mellow and she is also very smart. Once in a while she likes to play but mostly she is happy to curl up and supervise. :) What does your Zoey look like?

TPr9258 02-19-2015 06:36 PM

ok ladies I am really confussed!! I thought it was Springtime Destinations mug rug, now everyone is talking about puppies and kittens, daaa please someone straighten me out, lol:shock:

Vitality 02-19-2015 08:34 PM

The instructions for the mug rug swap are in the first post. The following stuff is just fun conversation. Hope that helps ;)

Oh it is a Springtime Destinations theme...
We ladies just end up chatting about all kinds of things...lol
And, it's your interpretation of Springtime Destination...like someone may think a cat in the flowerbed is "Springy"...lol
We're pretty easy going around here..And happy to have you join us!
Once the month's theme is announced, some people go ahead and make the mug rug. Others (like me) wait until the partners are assigned to kind of "tailor" the mug rug to what their partner likes (still within that month's theme, tho).
I hope this explanation isn't clear as mud...lol...

Vitality,
I'm thinking it would be nice to be Zoey..., as I'm fairly certain she has a pretty schweet life...

Sorry for all of y'all who are freezing in the terrible weather!
I kinda hate to say this, but we were 74 degrees yesterday.. supposed to be mid 60's today.
Now before y'all Boo me off of here, Winter is headed back full force. Starting Saturday, it's supposed to snow with highs in the 20's for several days.
We have a saying around here: if you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes, because it changes so fast.

Cheesehead,
It would be a dream come true for them if I could ever get tickets and send my hubby and son to see their beloved Packers play at Lambeau... it would probably be a case of seeing 2 grown men bawl like babies...lol
Speaking of Packers, did I thank you for my "angel" pkg of the Packers fabric you sent??
Oh my word, y'all.. I'm losing my mind! And I didn't have much of one to start with to lose..
ACK!! Either way, thank you so much for sending it to me! It's slated to be used to make my dgd and dgs each some pants to wear on game day. I made my lil granddaughter a skirt and trimmed a t shirt in Packers fabric a couple yrs back, she loved dressing up on game day. I thought for the upcoming season I'll make pants. Will ask her and see which she'd rather have. She'll probably say BOTH. Haha

Take care all, and stay warm
Kif

Difergie 02-20-2015 04:49 AM

I am back! Sounds like a fun theme!

rwquilts 02-20-2015 06:37 AM

Difergi,I just went to your blog and wow! Your quilt is amazing!!!:)

Difergie 02-20-2015 06:45 AM

Thanks rw..remember the mini swap (2012)... I just started working on using the rest of the blocks..will post when I get it done! Better late than never.

Elisabrat 02-20-2015 07:53 AM

Wise words Dfergie! never to ate to finish what you started no matter when.. I grow into project then out of it again twirking off into a new project with cool ideas and three quilts later think I should finish that one and well you get back into and love it all over again. or you cringe that you had ever started it lol. then its good you looked and off to the donation box for someone who might just love it like you did when you started.

do you organize your scraps? mine are in stacks by color(s).some stacks are full of just one shade then another is full of orange and yellow tones. (guess I don't buy much of those little goes a long way?)

Vitality 02-20-2015 09:47 AM

All my scraps are in one bin… I use them up pretty regularly so far. When I'm done with them I neatly fold whatever is left over… and put it back in the bin… though the neat folding only lasts until I start rummaging through it sometime. I love using scraps for things.
