May Day!! 2.5” ‘CANDY’ swap!!! Oh Sew Sweet! ***Closes April 1, 2013***
For those who love “Candy” in the Spring!
We have fun calling it CANDY, but this swap is not the kind you eat. We trade 2.5" squares (another size of postage stamp) in sets of 50 different 100% cotton fabrics. Please send what you would like to receive. Limit is 15 cotton sets per swapper. More CANDY news! If you choose, the “DOUBLE TWIST” is back. You can choose a ‘CANDY Twist’ of BATIKS OR NEUTRALS! You can send up to 5 sets of 20 Batiks OR up to 5 sets of Neutrals. These will be 2.5” squares of 20 different BATIKS OR 20 different NEUTRALs. Again, please, send what you would like to receive. Twist limit is 5 sets of Batiks OR 5 sets of Neutrals OR BOTH or neither. :D PM me your information (Real name and address) to sign up, and let me know how many sets (and twists, if you choose) you would like to swap. For example: SheriR - 15 Cotton sets, 5 Batik twists and 5 Neutral twists Sheri R… 1234 Quilter Road Quilting City, Texas 02213 Sign-ups close April 1, 2013. Sets are due to me by April 15, 2013. I will swap them out, and get them back in the mail no later than May Day! May 1, 2013. :D Use quality 100% cottons only! NO flannels, NO polys, NO homespun, NO eyelets. If in doubt of fiber content, leave it out! :D All sets do not need to be identical. You can use what is in your stash! Each set does need to contain the right amount of DIFFERENT squares. (50 DIFFERENT cottons and/or 20 DIFFERENT Batiks and Neutrals) Please double check your counts…then count again. Remember, MORE is better than less. :D MAKE SURE to trim off selvages before cutting your squares. Also try to be accurate in your cutting of the squares, so they DO measure 2.5". :D Put each set of 50 (or 20 for BATIKS and NEUTRALs) squares in its own small, snack size baggies. LABEL each baggie with your board name and state you are from. For example, my baggies will say: SheriR – Texas :D Put all your sets in a larger baggie with your board name, real name and address. This way if your envelope gets damaged the PO can return the contents to you. :D Include for me an address label with your return information so I can easily stick it on your return envelope. :D Include $5.70 for return postage. Tracking Confirmation is free when I print the labels at the USPS.com site. I will not return your swaps until I have exact postage from you to cover the charges. I WILL NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS! You can send me A PO Money order, cash or stamps, concealed in your package which ever you prefer. (NOT metered postage as some of these expire before I can get the packages back to you.) ALSO…if you send stamps, send $6.00 worth, it costs more to mail this way. Printing from the USPS site saves money but I can’t use your stamps, I have to pay. :D Mail your swaps to me anyway you choose. If you use the PO flat rate envelopes I would reinforce the seams with tape so they’re more durable while being shipped. :D *PLEASE* I request you send TO me WITH a Confirmation/Tracking Number. This will alleviate any questions as to where your swap is. :D I will return your swapped “Candy” in a bubble padded USPS Flat Rate Envelope which I order from USPS for free. If your sets cost more than what you sent me, I have no choice to hold them until I get the difference. Thanks for your understanding. :D Sign-ups close April 1, 2013. Sets are due to me by April 15, 2013. I will swap them out, and get them back in the mail no later than May Day! May 1, 2013. :D ** If you’re shipping from outside the USA, please mail 10 days earlier (April 5) to make sure I get them in time. ** Send me a PM and we can make arrangements for payment of return postage if you will have a problem acquiring US$. Please feel free to mail your sets early, if you wish. General rules for swaps: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm If you have any questions, concerns, or other "candy" swappy ideas please send me a PM. Happy Candy Quilting ~ SheriR |

Hey, Sheri, I tried to PM you and it says you are full! Anyway, I'm of course in. I will do 15 regular and (I hope) 5 neutral.
Please explain neutral. White on white? Beige prints? Only solids? Creams? Tell me what you want and you shall receive. |
I am packing on the lbs. with this sweet stuff every few months. My bin is never going to lose any weight at this rate!
Of course I am in for the max! Love the squares and the company. :) |

Neutral = white on white, beige on beige, cream on cream any of these tones you would use with NO color. I was given a definition of "neutral" once as being the color of a brown paper bag. I extend that to any blender of the LIGHT/white area. Does that make sense to all? |

That explantion works for me! I have a 20% coupon from my LQS burning a hole in my wallet. I just my have to see what they have that could be construed as neutral...........or at least 2.5 inch square worthy. It is a coupon after all. I can let it spoil.
|

Someone posted this scrappy blog on the scrappy thread. I LOVE it as an idea for our 2.5" candies!!! She calls it "Granny Square Quilt Block".

Well Ms. SheriR you know I am doing this but I think you better call me I need flash cards :o)
|
If you were to do the quilt Sheri posted from Blue Elephant Stitches, you could do every block in different color family. The pattern has potential.
|
thanks for finding another quilt idea to use for our sweet candy squares. Love it ...if you go to the site they have a flicker account with more pictures. I can't make quilts fast enough!

Who's ready to swap neutrals??? I love playing with candy. :)
|
Perfect Fraew! Those are exactly what I had in mind for our neutral swap!
|
OK, I am so glad i saw you post the neutrals, I was wondering how you got 20 different neutral fabrics, but I am sure now I have them. I got a little side tracked. Since getting to Oregon the second time I have been stitching up Red hatters! My Sister and my Mom both belong and they are doing something fun this weekend and i think they all were in need of a few stitches. But it really has been fun to fix and tuck the wonderful costumes they wear. I told my sister it reminded me of playing dress up as a little girl! I guess I am going to join, as long as it does not inner-fear with my quilting!
But I was asked about a Red Hat quilt? any ideas? |
Wow it's amazing so many have that many different fabrics in one place. I would love to play but don't have that many different ones. I can't even go through my scraps because I don't have that many. I buy for each project as I go. I have a little bit but not 50. I will have to watch you all.
|
Owlvamp, I didn't have enough the first time either. I went to the fabric store and bought 4 inches of a bunch of fabrics. It gave me enough to be sure it would square up to nice 2.5 inch strips and then a good string for my string box. I kind of expected the fabric ladies to hate me, but they didn't even blink.
|
Sandra, check at your local quilt shop too, some times they sell scraps by the bag after they do a project or teach a class. I usually can get a bag on really nice big scraps for about $2.50. If they don't have them ask? all they can do is say no, or sell them to you!:D and there is always the quilter friend who does not like her scraps and will give them to you rather than toss them! Ask around you will be surprised!

I just sorted everything from the last swap. There were only 3 that were obviously cut wrong. I consider that pretty darn good. There were only 4 fabrics that I'm sure I have a square of already. Again pretty amazing.
I now have close to 80 (not counting my own stash) 1930 - 1940's repro squares which thrills me to no end. In my mind I'm making a cathedral window with them. Who knows if it will ever get out of my mind and into reality. Also, I have 39 Asian print squares. This is excellent because one of the quilts in the row exchange I'm working on has requested anything with an Asian feel. I'm working on a plan. |
Lisa_wanna_b_quilter I'm working on a cathedral windows quilt with 1930's also. It's my hand project for when we go out of town.
|
I have no quilting friends except, here on the board and the nearest place to get fabric is Walmart and it 50 minutes away and the other direction is an hour and fifteen minutes away.which would be Joann's . I have no local quilt shop it shut down years ago. I see like 280 2 1/2 inch blocks like for 10.50 on ebay. Is that a good deal?
|
I'm almost home-bound and rarely get out of the house to get to a lqs. I buy almost all of my fabric online. I use Fabric Depot or Whittles, or Thousands of Bolts. If you want to buy small amounts of fabric, Fabric Depot will sell as little as 1/4 yard of a fabric, and the prices are always 25% off the list price, and sometimes, up to 35%. I have never had a problem with the quality of fabrics from any of these companies, and others can give you other names, if you don't mind cutting your own fabrics. It usually cost less that way. Just another option.
|
all me crazy .. but I am in for 10 cottons and 5 neutrals. already PMd you. Nice to see some familiar names.
At my local sewing room they have the Stuido Acucuter* so I will be there cutting my candy. |
I wish I had somewheres to go cut my fabric or even buy it.
