Come on and join the fun this month! We are swapping Quilt Blocks that I designed.

You can find them in the Sampler Quilt Along (84 available there) or on my website or in any of my tutorials including my Ebooks if you have them.

My website:
http://www.bitsnpiecesworkshop.com

Partners will be assigned and you can contact your partner for her/his color preferences and her/his info.

You need to make a 12 ˝“ x 12 ˝“ unfinished quilt block.
Please make sure the quilt block you make is 12 1/2" without adding any borders.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Each month we will choose new swap partners. You can join or drop out at any time. Just please let me know if you can not participate in any one month.

If for any reason you can not follow through on a quilt block to your partner please let me know as soon as possible so I may provide a substitute. Thanks!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please make sure to read the general rules that apply to all swaps here at the Quilting Board: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

Please use 100% cotton. Washing fabrics before or not is up to you and your partner.

This swap is for all skill levels. If you feel you can't do one of my Quilt Blocks but you would like to try I will be happy to help. Just pm me and I will walk you through any parts you feel you need help with.

BLOCK DIRECTIONS:

Here are the directions for making my "Blocks" as in
Boston Blocks / Star Point Blocks / Wings Blocks / HSTs /Drunkard's Path Blocks / Kansas Dugout Blocks

Rhonda's "Block" Shortcuts using the Cut Down Method
http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual...jsp?vsnum=1020

My cut down method makes it easy to make accurate blocks(units) that will make accurate quilt blocks.

TEMPLATES

You will need templates. I will get them out to anyone who needs them as soon as I can. Let me know as soon as possible so I have time to get them out to you. It can take up to 2 weeks to get them to Canada. International swappers are welcome but can also take longer to mail.

Most of my designs are made with 6 blocks to a row and 6 rows in the quilt block. I refer to this as a 6 x 6 grid. Or some are made with a 4 x 4 grid. There may be a few on my website that are a 3 x 3 grid, Not all of my designs on my website show the layout. So if you need a layout for a design just let me know and I will provide one.
Please choose one you can make into a 12 1/2" without having to add a border to get the right size.

Size of templates you will need:
For a 12 ˝” unfinished quilt block

For a 6 x 6 grid
2 ˝” for making-- HSTs / Bostons / Kansas Dugouts / Drunkard’s Path
for the Star Points and Wings Blocks you will also need the paper templates.

Wings - http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-108533-1.htm
Star Points - http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-108486-1.htm
Tutorial - http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-106744-1.htm

For a 4 x 4 grid
3 ˝” for the HSTs / Bostons /Kansas Dugouts / Drunkard’s Path
for the Star Point and Wings Blocks you will also need the paper templates

Come join the fun and get to know new people and enjoy exchanging with friends!!

Thanks Bonni!! I am so happy to see that we have players this month! And I am glad you decided to join us last month and again this month Bonni! Your support means alot! I know this swap is a bit differant from the others but I so enjoy seeing how everyone decides to put together colors and fabrics in the quilt blocks!!

I am excited to see what everyone does with their quilt blocks! I probably will make mine into a table runner. At least that is the plan right now.

klgreene 05-02-2011 12:51 PM

i've never done a swap before, but count me for this. I'll PM you.

You'll like this. I did it for the first time last month and had fun and I'm not even good at doing these kinds of blocks. I found that they were quite doable.

Iove doing Rhonda's blocks. I have been working on a sampler daybed cover. I'm about 2/3 finished. I have all the blocks made, am just quilting as I go putting it together. So this should be fun.

The ones with the half square triangles are the easiest. If you are really up for some punishment (ask me how I know!), then choose the Star Point Blocks.

Oh I like the star point ones and the Kansas dug outs. I've only made one wings I think. But yes, some can be quit tricky. But still easy to do.

Shelley I developed paper templates to make it easier to make the star points and wings blocks.

Were you using the original method of using the 30 degree template? With the paper templates you don't have to do that step. It is figured into the paper template for you.

Ohhh. I get Shelley!!!!!! THIS will be fun. :)

BonniFeltz 05-09-2011 07:59 AM

I've already talked to Shelley and have her colors in mind as well as which block I'll be doing. She has picked one of the drunkard path's block for me to do for her. I've been wanting to do that since I received one from Dee. This will be good. :)

mom-6 05-09-2011 07:06 PM

Ok Rhonda promise not to look at the back of my block! LOL! So what colors are you wanting to go with? I can't remember if you've posted that before or not. My life has been a bit crazy lately! Oh I did get the templates in the mail. Thanks so much! And I of course found the one I thought I had lost the day after I asked for a replacement. But now I can have one in both locations. Yea!

It's always good to have a backup where the templates are concerned. I am always losing mine!

I like the country colors. Blues burgandys and greens. So what is your color scheme? I haven't picked a block yet. Do you have a preference for any particular one?

mom-6 05-10-2011 12:04 AM

I'm going with lime green, teal/aqua and purple. Doesn't match anything except a pretty batik I especially like!

Any of the blocks will be fine. I like 'em all!

Hope I can actually get some sewing time soon. Seems like all I'm doing lately is spending time running up and down the highway.

klgreene 05-10-2011 06:06 AM

Rhonda, the mail out date of May 27, is that on or before that date? In other words, can it be mailed earlier than the 27th, or do we wait until the 27th to mail? Inquiring minds want to know. LOL

So would you prefer batiks then? I did pick some up not long ago. they aren't what I usually use but I am trying to expand my thinking so picked out some to experiment with.

You can mail out any time I just need to know by the 27th who has mailed out and if anyone is going to be late why. I need to wrap this one up early enough to get the next sign up out sooner than this one. I would like to get it out so we can start on the 1st of each month and not in the middle.

klgreene 05-10-2011 11:12 AM

Ok, I figured that if I waited until the 27th I'd put it somewhere I'd forget about it. So when I'm finished, I'll get it mailed out.

klgreene 05-11-2011 04:03 PM

Ok, next question, are you going to want to see pictures as we finish the blocks before we mail them. And this isn't fair, I would not have made this block for myself. But I love the colors and I think it turned out very pretty. One boo boo, not perfect~! Didn't see it until I took the picture.

Rhonda 05-11-2011 04:41 PM

If your partner is ok with you posting before you mail it's ok with me. I love seeing them any time!

klgreene 05-11-2011 04:58 PM

Maybe we should wait until after we receive each others, or, I can post hers and she can post mine. Maybe that would be best, that way, we can be surprised when we get our swap. So I will wait......

I am sending mine out tomorrow and have permission to post the picture since she has seen the picture already. This is going out to Sgardner. :)

Rhonda 05-15-2011 09:31 PM

Bonni I will repeat I think this one is just lovely! I am so glad Dee talked you into trying the swap!

Pictures seem to be working today! Yay! I can share this amazing block named "Nellie" KLGreene made me! I hope to finish hers today. I'm afraid I can't match this awesome workmanship, but I am doing my best.
