thanks for the offer, I have a few that want to do 2.

Nancy in Louisiana 06-04-2012 07:05 AM

Sign me up!!!!!! (Just sent pm) Have been collecting several books on this technique and this is just the catalyst I need to jump in and try it! I'm a pattern junkie -- I accummulate all sorts of pattern books which I just drool over and mark up and label pages .... then they go into the "to do" pile with all the others until I get the incentive to take action. Sometimes I get as much fun looking over and reading patterns as I do actually making the item. Like cookbooks -- I collect them, read them, drool, then stash them away since I "gave up" cooking and the stuff I'd like to make and eat would probably kill me. Life is unfair ... and way too short.

pjnesler 06-04-2012 04:50 PM

I'm going to look into some of the modern quilt concepts - looks like fun, I'll let you know soon!

JuneBillie 06-04-2012 08:08 PM

I am doing all the preps to my fabric, and making my plans . I am enjoying coming up with something that I have not done before. I am a bit slow, but I WILL get there. lol....

QuilterMomma 06-05-2012 09:27 AM

I have my idea rolling in my head, found some fabric to work with, just need the mental to fall into line and I will have it done. Oh, yeah, need a name anyway so get a couple more days to get started to see if what I have in mind will work. This is fun because it can be on the abstract side of things. Taking a simple shape and creating with it.

heyuitsme 06-05-2012 06:38 PM

oh help me! :) There is a reason I don't sign up for swaps...I get sooo worried about what the other person/the whole group would think. I tend to be a chronic over-achiever (not with housework though, go figure) and can never just "keep it simple stupid." :) Time to change gears and do a little rethinking. (I was working on idea #4...which involved over 100 pieces...yeah, like that will happen on a 12 inch quilt and with 3 little kiddos.)
off to check out the modern quilt guild again for more simple inspiration. :)

MaryMo 06-06-2012 06:38 AM

I'm joining in on this one .... been thinking about it ... and thinking ... and thinking, so why not just jump in and do it? I am, I can do this.

not that hard as my friend is the one selling it and she just tossed me a bundle of large scraps and said "use these"....so not my style....sigh

JuneBillie 06-07-2012 12:14 AM

Glad your here MaryMo, and oh you can do it for sure.

Ugh! I'm one day late. I haven't been on here in a while and was ready for a swap. Next time!

oksewglad 06-08-2012 07:22 AM

Sorry I missed this, been out of commission for awhile. Will keep an eye on this and may participate at a later time.

QuilterMomma 06-08-2012 10:01 AM

Isn't it great to live the dream of a day late dollar short. I did that once, I just got my new checking account, years ago before free checking, put $10 in and got gas the next day, they set a process fee of $1.00 and low and behold I got paid the following day. For real, a day late dollar short. Who knew. Will miss you for sure but look forward to swapping with you gals sometime. I think I have become addicted to these swaps. I really like them because I can try a new technique or make just a few blocks and not get tired of them and enjoy the process instead of dreadging thru a whole quilt all the time. Then the experience of putting something together out of your own imagination, making things work for you is such a creative process that has wonderful rewards. I get someone elses.

nancia 06-08-2012 12:15 PM

i know what you mean quiltermomma! i think i may give up on the concept of full size quilts entirely and just live in the realm of dq's, mini's and art quilts. as long as people are willing to swap with me, i'll swap!

MaryMo 06-08-2012 02:37 PM

but there's times I hate to see my creation go ... but the other side of that coin is that I get creative endeavors from others ... and I learn new techniques. Quiltermomma has really inspired me to expand my boxed-in ideas!

oksewglad 06-08-2012 02:40 PM

LOL If worse comes to worse nancia you can whipstitch all those DQ's together and you get a big quilt or two.:D:D

nancia 06-08-2012 03:06 PM

great minds, oksewglad! great minds!!

Isn't that the truth? More than once I have held onto my small quilt before mailing out because it hurt so much to give it away. :D

thanks for the compliments, i appreciate them. i'm really not a painter, but i just thought it would be a fun way to do a quilt. it's for the doll quilt swap, but my partner, n2scrapquilter, and i agreed to do aaqi quilts and send them on. she has done several before, this is my first.

abd-- i featured the mug rug i made you in a thread, some fun mug rugs. it seems to be well rec'd.:o

nancia.....you inspired me with your painting art...after watching another video decided to give it a try. Thanks for sharing your work with all of us. You did a super job!

nancia 06-12-2012 06:51 PM

thank you, linny!! it's fun to branch out! i keep thinking it's something i can't do. and then i surprise myself. i'm not rembrandt, but i am me, and i have my own style. what was the video? i'd like more information!

actually I looked at several....don't know why I didn't think of the spray bottle for application of the alcohol. The nice thing is you can use as much or as little as you need and when you've done that and it's dry you can go back and outline your work. It worked for me using the small tip markers. Type in "sharpie art with alcohol" and you'll find oodles of info. The neat thing about art quilts is that everyone interprets their work in their own style and so is truly unique.

nancia 06-13-2012 02:28 PM

since i plan on doing these art challenges frequently, i will look into that. i'm willing to try most things once... and some i'll try twice! lol

my floating lady is finished and if you want, i can post pictures. i hand-dyed the backing.
