Da da da da da dadda da da da da daada dada... happy dance oh the happy dance.. yessirree I am doing the happy dance.

Nancia those are not mug rugs those are mug holders you cant fool me. a rug is something that lays flat on the ground never once had a seriously bumpy rug honest its true. those mug holders are a work of art. No wonder you participate in the art challenge each month here on the board.. you think like an artist more than a quilter I think. maybe both equally.. grand job young lady grand job. me more traditional here is the one I made tracibug as a side swap..my cartoon piggy...argh its not showing add ap ic l et me try that again.

nancia 04-13-2013 04:52 PM

i wanna see the piggy!! ( brat-- thanks so much for those lovely words! now get back into character, noodle nose!)

those are just wonderful! son daniel was going to grow up to become a pig farmer. he charged 25 cents to enter his room and he was saving it to buy his farm. he started making up plays and puppet shows and inviting the neighborhood, and charging his quarter a head. now he's getting his masters in screen- and playwriting at the university of london. and he won't eat pork. lol may i ask where you found that flying pig fabric? the birdie reminds me of my friend emily. she loves all things from the emerald isle!!

JuneBillie 04-13-2013 05:05 PM

Oh my gosh, I want the piggy. lol....

sikesjj 04-13-2013 05:51 PM

Love the piggy, especially if it was red like a razorback.

DustysMomma 04-13-2013 08:02 PM

(Sliding up next to sikesjj.....yep, it's early, but I gotta "stir the pot", lol)

WAR EAGLE!:D

(We now return you to your regularly scheduled quilting station)

The pigs are so cute! There are a few adorable pig fabrics out there. I think my favorite is the where where they're all squeezed together and you can barely see their bodies, but they're all making different faces. I forget where I saw that one. I wish I had some of it to share with you ladies now!

Quiltaddiction 04-13-2013 11:10 PM

Wahoo I made it in I'm number 42. Really looking forward to this I think the size is really doable. Is there a theme or do we talk to partners about preferences? Lots of ideas running through my head after looking at the pictures of earlier swaps and posts.

Elisabrat 04-14-2013 01:23 AM

ok a selvage quilt: um if you hit your fabric stash or mine you would find it wouldnt take long at all for say the swirl one or the library one.. I toss them right and left as I dont do tiny things my eyes would flop out on the table if I tried to work them that hard. if you have a stash in theory you could raid it however this is important if you later needed more of one of those fabrics and then had no idea who made it.. trouble. or you could write notes Moda Marble Crimson or such on each of them as you cut them off and pin it to your fabrics. Otherwise it will take you as long as it takes saving them based on how much you quilt. OR you can post can you send me your salvages? see people will do this for you a few here a few there add up. good luck. best you not me!

Elisabrat 04-14-2013 01:30 AM

I purchased that pigs fly fabric for a memory quilt for a friend who passed from Aids about 20 yrs ago. I just never used the rest .. sorta a memory fabric I guess for me to. I recently sold all the piggys to Auntpigglyn here on the board. it was cute though wasnt it?

razorbacks? razorbacks? sorry girl its CARDINALS here all the way.. but if you asked my daughter its DUCKS .. I can't wait to get my partner and whip up something sweet or goofy depending on who it is :) be warned I am as goofy as the next one probably a whole lot more. And I am traditional to the bone myself so your safe with me if you like also. Nelco I am so ready lol she is groaning, trying to set up fifty people is no small task. her swaps are huge like booms almost. bet you money she is getting bugged can I please sign up and she will end up giving in and the numbers will swell monsterously. Dont kill yourself you can always have another one and people can join then girl. those that make it in this one can sign up for the new tablerunner swap that will be posted. Just waiting approval from Patrice to get it up. should be today. see a win win?

vanginney 04-14-2013 05:36 AM

Love those selvage quilts (especially the bookshelf), but I don't think I have enough fabric with selvages or patience! The other pics from members look great. I want to make mine nice and thin and flat....any suggestions on the right type of batting. My partner last time sent two beautiful ones which where super thin - in a good way. My regular warm & natural is too bumpy.

Elisabrat 04-14-2013 06:28 AM

perfect thin non bumpy batting: fusible. it sticks to your top and back beautifully while your sewing so you can get things really tightly stitched down no bumps. then when you wash it and the fusible is gone you have still a quilt stitched so tightly down that it wont be bumpy :)

DustysMomma 04-14-2013 07:25 AM

I never save my selvages. They're just not appealing to me when I look at them lying there on my sewing table.

To keep my mug rugs flat, I do 2 things. First, I use a low loft batting, the same that I would use for making placemats, which I always have on hand. I usually buy Poly-fil brand for this, but I like Mountain Mist as well, depending on where I'm shopping when I need to buy it. Second, I rarely bind my mug rugs. I usually sew them pillowcase style and then turn them right side out and sew around the edge.

Oh, I almost forgot what brought me here to begin with! I got this week's special from Joann this morning & they've got FQ's for $.99 each, in store only (online, $1.49, but they only have a few online.) Hmm, I think I need to go to Columbus next weekend! ;)

vanginney 04-14-2013 07:32 AM

@elizabrat - fusible? What? I am a newbie you will have to be more specific. Like a light fusible interfacing? I have that...and your saying 2 layers in between? One for the back and one for the front. And then I can pillow style it together rather than binding (i get that part :)

paperpieceme 04-14-2013 07:50 AM

bummer... somehow i missed this...hopefully i will catch the next one.

Whigrose 04-14-2013 07:53 AM

Hi all,
I'm popping in to say "Hi" and introduce myself to the group. I made the cut and I am looking forward to doing something on a small, fast and fun scale.

About me: I've participated in the 2011-2012 Quilt for Quilters swap (my avatar is the quilt I made for my swap partner) and participated in the Monthly Quilting Bee Block Swap. Currently I am in playing in the Row by Row swaps, Groups 6 & 7. Feel free to browse my QB albums over at http://www.quiltingboard.com/members...se-u41137.html

My home is graced with several treadles, including a Davis LAVF with gorgeous decals, a Willcox and Gibbs, plus a few 'heads'. My go-to treadle is my 1926 Singer Red Eye - just love that machine's stitch as well as her sound.

Looking forward to meeting all of you and getting to know my partner. Come on list!

Thank you Nelco for being the swap mother.

best,
d

Nelco 04-14-2013 08:25 AM

Brat - it's DUCKS all the way for me. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DUCKS. and no everyone has been good. No bugging so far. Hang in there you all will get your names in a few. :D

Whigrose, lucky partner you had, that quilt is beautiful. My husband and I just finished restoring a 1901 Singer treadle and it turned out beautiful, haven't used it yet but it looks good. Don't know if these old legs still have the "motion", they're antique too  Welcome to the swap....

gzuslivz 04-14-2013 10:28 AM

Is there still room for me? If so, I want in please:)

letsquilt 04-14-2013 05:18 PM

Just got home from vacation pmd, hopefully ill get in the swap

sikesjj 04-14-2013 07:01 PM

I use a quilt bonding spray, I really like it and I'm a newbie also. But you can buy fusible batting, check hobby lobby, Joann's and Hancocks.

I personally like warm and natural, I use it for everything!

DustysMomma 04-14-2013 08:07 PM

I use basting spray sometimes. I used it today on a runner actually. No iron needed, but it really stinks!

jaba 04-14-2013 08:23 PM

I agree on the stinks part dustysmomma, and be really careful when you spray, the mist seems to float around alot for me. My table was a little sticky too. Warm and Natural is good I use that too, also if I want my finished product to be a little thinner, I use the 100% cotton batting. On mug rugs and table runners I only use one layer of batting between the front and back.

nancia 04-14-2013 09:30 PM

i bought the siliconized batting from joann's on line 20 yardsx 60 wide ,$34.99 less than $2 a yard. it quilts up nicely! haven't had any experience sleeping under it. it lies flat for runners and placemats, and mugrugs! and it has a very drape-able hand. they have a 30 day return policy but i haven't wanted to return it. in an heirloom quilt i'd probably use wool. but for more utilitarian, this stuff seems to be great. has anyone else here tried it?

Elisabrat 04-15-2013 12:51 AM

I love all cotton fusible batting. I am not great at quilting. freely admit it. stitch in the ditch here I come. I love when you iron the batting between the two layers of top/bottom that it sticks. you get it to stick to the front turn it over iron it down that way turn it again iron it one more time. it holds. no basting. I stitch a row or two press again stitch a row press again and this way no shifting... that is how I do it. bamboo fusible is good too.. I prefer the natural items yes the fusible is probably as unnatural natural as you can get but once its washed its just cotton or bamboo. no sprays nothing bad smelling. that is my pitch. If its just a runner or mug rug I use whatever batting I have. I NEVER use fat batting or wool. fat batting is so puffy. great for simple quilting I think its hard for me to work with. things .. jump?

see neclo I can talk about something other than WHERE IS MY PARTNER????

oh that quilt that is the avatar that was done for quilt for quilters? OMG. this is why I should never have signed up for that swap. I am so not at that level! I did a huge medallion and 12 blocks to go around it. Nothing like that at all .. oh dear... that had to have been the best one traded. congratulations for such beautiful work.

Lizzytish 04-15-2013 02:07 AM

I like the warm and natural batting also. I buy the bolt at Joanne's with a coupon or when it is on sale at 50% off.
I also make snap bags that calls for fusible batting so I got a bolt of that the same way. This way I don't have to wait for it to go on sale or pay full price for it. I always have it on hand.

I started my mug rug yesterday. I am making placemats so just added a smaller one. The top is done.
Let the games begin!

jaba 04-15-2013 06:19 AM

Boy I'm really screwed up! I better get started, I thought we had to wait for our partner to ask what they wanted. We can just make what we want? I think last week was longer than I thought. This pre planning for 3 weeks is going to drive me nuts, I've got labeled baggies of projects all laid out and then rotary cutters, machine, thread, Etc. on and on. Maybe vacations are not so great.....

Elisabrat 04-15-2013 06:58 AM

I bet you have a trailer full of sewing things! clothes you can wash along the way at your sons or MY house :) but sewing you need this and that.. is there room in the toyhauler to sew? or just when your settled at your travel homes? Marybeth has room for sure :) oh who am I kidding her house is an implossion of sewing jobs.. me. room tiny table. hey can we sew outside on the picnic table new clean platform, bought vinyl flannel backed tablecloths for the table we could run the outside cord and stitch away! lol in the woods! something new for everyone.

and no you shouldnt start your mug rugs yet as one has no idea what their partner wants color wise or who they are yet... so everyone wait! only a couple more days then you have plenty of time to make a mug rug that works for your partner. last time I had one who wanted greens anything green. Had I started early I would not have worked green. another wanted cottage shabby chic so you have to wait so you can hit it on the head with your mug rug! soon very soon ..open open open.. waiting patiently like I always do.

jaba 04-15-2013 08:11 AM

Yep there's room to sew but I probably won't until I get to Greg's house. We'll be there 4 or 5 days, depending on how long it takes Bill to do some of Greg's finishing projects he asked dear old step Dad to do....Great keep them busy and I'll just sew the day away. Planning on leaving there May 2, he wants me to stay for my b-day on the 1st. Not enough time to unload at MB's house, we'll only be there 1 night and then on the road again. It's getting close. My Dad is still waiting on a bunch of red tape paper work, saw him yesterday, doesn't look his best that's for sure. They took my brother on Saturday by ambulance to Billings and put him in the hospital, pneumonia. Today seems to be doing better but don't know when he can come home. Guess that's my happenings over the week end. And I'll wait until I get a name for the mug rug, we should be getting them soon right?

Nelco 04-15-2013 09:16 AM

I am going to keep all of you guessing for a little bit longer :D

jaba..Have a safe a wonderful vacation.

Brat..you are getting to know me to well :D

jaba 04-15-2013 09:34 AM

Just was hoping I could get it made and sent before I left. Won't be back until maybe the 20th of May. Have to try an do internet on the way if I don't have a name yet.

Lizzytish 04-15-2013 10:51 AM

Well as I said before anything goes here if you get me as a partner. I for one like to be surprised with colors and techniques we all do! Some colors I would never think of putting together look great. Whatever flows through you at the time. Just have FUN!

DustysMomma 04-15-2013 03:26 PM

Me, I don't care what my partner wants. I'm going to make what I like! :D

(WHACK!)

Elisabrat! You know I was joking!

I was watching Eddie Murphy last night talking about his mom throwing shoes at him. He said she was quick draw like Clint Eastwood in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, lol.

Nelco 04-15-2013 06:06 PM

Jaba I will let your partner know you are away from internet and will get in touch when you get back home :)

Elisabrat 04-15-2013 06:18 PM

oh I can throw shoes! mine however never do damage they have to weight 2 oz or less so shoot going to go for the big guns.. where are those fuzzy socks of mine. they ahve those sticky non slip things on the bottom those have to weight a lot more.. coming for you..

as to make whatever you want oh there is nothing that gives me high stress more.. make what i want and you hate it say oh how lovely others start making the same thing and see how bad that could be? lol dont do it. be specific or semi specific.. or the right now specific but say something oh my gosh. seriously folks. its not kinder to say just go for it .. its a lot harder on your partner than if you said hey I love flowers or cows or stripes! or modern or very traditional anything.. just give it a whirl. bet you both end up happy. Nelco I think this waiting game is terrifically fun. I am not minding at all. see. no whining no, crying, no poking at you nothing.. happy as a beaver waiting.. (ever seen a happy beaver? me neither).. but hey I am the consumate happy camper. anyone buying into my speel yet? good. phew. knew a few would .. the rest of you silence. no comments on my patience at all. whatsoever. I have those socks in hand waiting go for it just try it.. dustysmomma stand still while I bean you my aim sucks so close your eyes I am aiming at your hips. it sucks that bad btw.

DustysMomma 04-15-2013 06:32 PM

Your aim can't be any worse than mine girly! I was tossing something to the girl at the desk across from me last week and it ended up hanging enough of a left turn that it ended up on the cabinet outside the boss's office! :D

I didn't sit still for my momma to beat me, and she usually had me by one arm, but you think I'm going to be still for you to beat me? LOL! YEAH RIGHT!

I agree with Lizzytish, I also like to be surprised I like to see what everybody is doing and what type of quilting is their favorite. I am excited to find out who my partner is. I have several ideas running around in my head.

nancia 04-15-2013 06:44 PM

i don't throw things. my hand lets go whenever, so half the time it goes behind me, some of the time i hit my own head, and the rest of the time it drops like a bomb 5' in front of me. i once was able to put a decent spiral on a football. after i was married that didn't seem like such a marketable skill. my dh is no athlete! and, obviously, neither am i! LOL so you all be as bad as you want i'm sitting here glowing under the light of my shiny sparkling halo. no, brat. it is not a plastic tiara and a nightlite.! i am going to my quiltyfriend's house tomorrow to play. her old man dog is seriously ill, so we may not get any playing done, or we'll sew frantically. it is so hard to know the end is near. you don't want to rob them of precious time, nor do you want them to suffer. such a hard choice. perhaps in his case it won't be so hard to know. he is a sweet wonderful old boy and i hate to see him sick, and it will be hard to part ways.

Nelco 04-15-2013 09:09 PM

Be careful what you though to each other. I only allow softie things. Cotton balls will do or maybe feathers.
Brat you starting trouble already? Just keep it soft. :D

Nanci my thoughts go out to your quiltiefriend and her poor puppie.
