We're having so much fun doing the Dear Jane Christmas Block Swap that we've decided to do another swap.
Moderator's note: Dear Jane is a registered trademark. DJ BOM programs available commercially through quilt shops all require purchase of the book. They have all taken the additional step of getting permission from the author/publisher. We can neither authorize, encourage nor condone sharing copies of the pattern. Participants in the swap must be required to buy the book, the software, or both. The Spirit of Winter Dear Jane Block Swap. When i started the DJ Christmas swap i received some PMs from none christian members who requested a "Spirit of Winter" Dear Jane Swap. the colors are BLUE, WHITE, and GOLD. this can be solid, tone on tone, blenders, or pattern fabrics - just don't use any fabric that refers to the christian christmas holiday. snow and snowflakes are ok, snow is religion neutral. if you need help with block selection and patterns to the blocks just let me know and i will provide you with whatever i have. Please post here which block you will be making so i can keep a running list for the group. the UNFINISHED size is 5.0 inches You'll make 18 blocks, all alike and send them to me along with a self addressed, stamped envelope for return postage... what ever it cost to send it to me, it will cost to return your blocks to you...so be sure to put enough postage on your envelope. When you are ready to send them to me, please pm me and I'll give you my address. I will send you back one of your blocks and one each of 17 different blocks. Please mark EACH ONE of your blocks with a little slip of paper pinned to it or a sticky label with your message board id and if you want to, your real name. It is nice to know who made the blocks in your quilt. If you want to make multiple sets, just make sure you have 18 blocks of each pattern. You will receive back as many as you send. The due date is the 11th of January 2010. I will mail the blocks back to you by the 16th of January 2010. this is the link to the Original Dear Jane Quilt - so you can check it out. i've attached a word document that has all the blocks listed and the difficulty level. http://www.dearjane.com/ |
These are the blocks that have been taken already - at this moment in the swap duplicates will not be accepted - if we reach 36 people in the swap i can open it up to duplicate blocks. we currently have 17 people in the swap.

My my Klue this has sure grown from the original 4 that were interested!! That means I now have 5Blocks to do 18 of between the Christmas swap and this one! I do love these little blocks. I may have to try more of them when I have time.
Thanks so much for your time in doin this. I do hope your surgery goes well! |
I have the block info you gave me Klue...I might sign up for 2 again...I'll wait a bit to see. I have signed up for some other things also...you know, if I can fill my plate...isn't it more fun to overflow it??
|
there's plenty of time before the blue ones are due.
did i mention 36 blocks makes a beautiful lap quilt :D these blocks are very addicting, i was sewing them in my dreams last night. |
Klue, I have one word for you....temptress.   The christmas one was easy to say no to because I don't decorate much for christmas; just a few lights outside. Now you have me wanting to rush to finish the christmas gifts I'm making to do this swap. I might be a late joiner. :D
deb Wishing you an easy recovery from your surgery. |
thank you for the well wishes.
i made the day for after the new year that way you can actually start on the 1st or 2nd of january and still pop them in the mail in time :D i think these blocks will yield a finished product that you can use for the entire season compared to a product that you display for a month. |
KLue - I'm sorry to hear you have to undergo surgery, and wish a very positive outcome for you!! I'm glad you get to take some time off work to recover. What about school? Are you at a pure research/writing point in your program?
Thanks for all your hard work on this swap! You have been so generous with your time. I can just imagine what it's going to be like when we get into the Cyber Party... 8) |

I could have a baby jane in the living room. I'll have to see what fabrics I have in my stash that will work. And see if I can find a gold that doesn't look to much like a yellow. Don't put down yet. But I'm leaning that way. :-) |

Thanks. I have the dj software. |
klue, thanks for the patterns. I had to enlarge them by 6% (106%) so the measurements were correct just like the ones for the Christmas blocks and I darkened by 2 so these old eyes could see better. These two patterns will be much easier for me. I am not ready for applique yet, but maybe someday when I grow up!!!
By the way, I bought another tablet of Transfer Paper at Walmart, tore the amount of sheets out one by one, and have them all printed out, two patterns to a page, easy to see through, tears away easily, and the tablet only cost around $2.50 for 40 pages if anyone is interested. I use the very pointy end of my bamboo stipple to get under the paper and let her 'rip' so to speak. Really easy to tear away. Now to find the fabric. Thanks again. D |
excellent ideas!
|
wvdek, where do you find the transfer paper at Walmart ?
|
yes..where wvdek?
|
we've had a person drop out and F3 (its a variation on the snowball block) is available if any one wants it.
|
Well twist my rubbery arm and call me stupid....
I'll take that one too. ;-) |

I'll need a rubber room at this rate! LOL
I love these blocks.... and I do love blue. I just keep thinking the more blocks the bigger the "something" I make at the end! LOL |
lol bluechicken. The men in white coats will be coming to get you if you aren't careful. You know - the chefs to put you in the stew pot!
I found the paper in the art section. I've used regular copy paper and now this, and I will continue to use the transfer paper unless something much better comes along. Price for me is right and being able to see through it is a great help in lining up, stitching is a breeze, and tearing away is even easier. Availability is is a no brainer. Hope it works for you guys. |
THanks, I'll check the art section.
