Oh Sew Sweet! END OF SUMMER 2.5” ‘CANDY’ swap!!! *Sign-up Closes 8/1/13*

For those of us who love “Candy”!

We have fun calling it CANDY, but this swap is not the kind you eat. We trade 2.5" squares (another size of postage stamp) in sets of 50 different 100% cotton fabrics. Please send what you would like to receive. Limit is 15 cotton sets per swapper.

Infamous CANDY news! If you choose, the “TWIST” is back. You can choose to do a ‘CANDY Twist’ of BATIKS! If you choose to do the twist, send up to 5 sets of 20 Batiks. These will be 2.5” squares of 20 different BATIKS. Again, please, send what you would like to receive. Twist limit is 5 sets of Batiks. :D

PM me your information (Real name and address) to sign up, and let me know how many sets (and twists, if you choose) you would like to swap.

For example:

SheriR - 15 Cotton sets, 5 Batik twists
Sheri R…
1234 Quilter Road
Quilting City, Texas 02213

Sign-ups close August 1, 2013. Sets are due to me by August 15, 2013. I will swap them out, and get them back in the mail no later than LABOR Day! Monday, September 2, 2013.

:D Use quality 100% cottons only! NO flannels, NO polys, NO homespun, NO eyelets. If in doubt of fiber content, leave it out!

:D All sets do not need to be identical. You can use what is in your stash! Each set does need to contain the right amount of DIFFERENT squares. (50 DIFFERENT cottons and/or 20 DIFFERENT Batiks) Please double check your counts…then count again. Remember, MORE is better than less.

:D MAKE SURE to trim off selvages before cutting your squares. Also try to be accurate in your cutting of the squares, so they DO measure 2.5".

:D Put each set of 50 (or 20 for BATIKS) squares in its own small, snack size baggies. LABEL each baggie with your board name and state you are from. For example, my baggies will say: SheriR – Texas

:D Put all your sets in a larger baggie with your board name, real name and address. This way if your envelope gets damaged the PO can return the contents to you.

:D Include for me an address label with your return information so I can easily stick it on your return envelope.

:D Include $5.70 for return postage. This is the cost when I print the postage label myself at USPS.com. Tracking Confirmation is free when I print the labels at the USPS.com site. I will not return your swaps until I have exact postage from you to cover the charges. I WILL NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS! You can send me A PO Money order, cash or stamps, which ever you prefer, concealed in your package. (NO metered postage as some of these will expire before I can get the packages back to you.) ALSO…if you send stamps, send $6.00 worth, it costs more to mail this way. Printing from the USPS site saves money but I can’t use your stamps, I have to pay.

:D Mail your swaps to me anyway you choose. If you use the PO flat rate envelopes I would reinforce the seams with tape so they’re more durable while being shipped.

:D *PLEASE* I request you send TO me WITH a Confirmation/Tracking Number. This will alleviate any questions as to where your swap is.

:D I will return your swapped “Candy” in a bubble padded USPS Flat Rate Envelope which I order from USPS for free.

:D If your sets cost more than what you sent me, I have no choice to hold them until I get the difference. Thanks for your understanding.

:D Again - Sign-ups close August 1, 2013. Sets are due to me by August 15, 2013. I will swap them out, and get them back in the mail no later than Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 2013.

:D ** If you’re shipping from outside the USA, please mail 10 days earlier (August 5) to make sure I get them in time. ** Send me a PM and we can make arrangements for payment of return postage if you will have a problem acquiring US$.

Please feel free to mail your sets early, if you wish.

General rules for swaps: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

*Swap pre-approved by PatriceJ. Thank you ma’am. :D

If you have any questions, concerns, or other "candy" swappy ideas please send me a PM.

Happy "Candy Quilting" ~ SheriR

My DEARson brought four tiny kittens home from work once. They didn't even have their eyes open. Then he left the next day for a week vacation!!! We had to feed them every three hours AFTER they got bathed. We still have one. Luckily he found homes for three. Lol

I am new to The Quilting Board. Just registered today. I figure I might as well jump in with both feet and participate! So I'm in! I've never done a swap before, or joined a board for that matter, but it sounds like fun! Thanks for doing this Sheri! Hugs!

Oh, and what is a PM?

Oh, and where do we find the address to send our candy to? : )

SheriR 06-27-2013 08:12 AM

Hey sisastitcher!!! Welcome to the board. If you click on my name it gives you a drop down and you'll find the topic "Private Message". Click that and it will take you to your QuiltBoard mailbox. You can send people private messages from there and you'll also receive messages.

When you look at the TOP of your quiltingboard thread you'll see six tabs beginning with your quiltingboard name. If someone has sent you a PM(personal message) there will be a number by NOTIFICATIONS, such as "Notifications1". I'll send you one so you'll see what I mean.

Also, if you linked an email to your quiltingboard account you should get alerts there for PMs and posts if you link to the post you want, for instance, scroll to the top of this thread. You'll see a tab on the right labeled Thread Tools. Click that and you can "subscribe" to this thread. When the menu comes up you can choose to get instant messages to your email or less often alerts. :D

PM me your information and how many sets you wish to do. I'll also send you my address from there so we can keep our personal information private.

This is a great swap! We get an amazing amount of variety for all of us addicted to "candy". I'm so glad you're joining. Do not hesitate to ask questions on any quilty topic. You'll get many answers and encouragements from all the members.

Quilty HUGS~Sheri

Cyndy K

Welcome Cynde! There are many sites with tons of postage stamp quilts is you google it. Some ladies like to sew random squares together for a giant ps quilt. Others like more controlled patterns. I've done midi/mondo bags you iron to a printed interfacing. I'll post a couple of pics.

Sheri, love your I Spy Texas charm quilt!! CINDYK check out http://quiltville.com She has lots of ideas. I really want to make her Sisters Choice quilt. Here is a top I made with my received swap squares.

Jannie 06-29-2013 11:18 AM

I sent a pm. Need to start cutting because my sister comes in on the 17th and we go on a rode trip with other sisters for a week. Then we come back and she stays until the 7th of August. We will have so much fun but won't get any sewing done because that isn't her talent.

Mariposa 06-29-2013 12:16 PM

Sheri-- love your projects! Terrific bags, and such fun quilts!

cavmom-- great quilt! I love the purple too! I may have to do this pattern too~

benndm 06-29-2013 12:40 PM

I need more candy! Count me in for 15 cotton sets and 5 batik twists. Sending a PM now.

SheriR 06-29-2013 12:56 PM

Awesome ladies. I knew more of you would post pics. Thanks cavmom. And I have to be honest. Although I did make the bags as Christmas gifts the two quilts are just in my "hope I make this someday" picture file. LoL :D I'm ...ummm... still in the collecting candy stage?? :D

My sign up list is growing. We're going to have an awesome groups as always! And I must say, if I seem pre occupied, I am. I'm in the middle of a mad summer sewing project for my 89 year old mother in law. I'm making her grandchildren and children each a quilt out of grandmas stash. I want to finish ASAP. So that's where I usually am. I currently have 10 out of 29 finished. With 11 more cut and ready to sew. I'll keep you posted on my challenge. :D

Here are a couple of quilts from the Moda website. I love their fabric! A lot of them are for jelly rolls, but would be fine for 2 1/2" squares . I have attached the web shortcuts for some of them, but if you go to http://www.modabakeshop.com/search/label/Quilt and scroll down each page and then at the bottom click older posts, you will find lots of ideas .

In my first 2.5" swap I called it candy after the Moda Candy packs of 2.5" squares. It's just sort of stuck and we have fun with it. If you like this size, we always have a great group of swappers!!!

Cavmom! Those are awesome sites. I love how everyone helps out here, I sure appreciate it!

SheriR 07-01-2013 08:52 AM

So far we have 14 Cotton swappers and 8 doing the Batik Twist! If I missed your PM, please let me know. I'm having some crazy times here IRL.

SheriR 07-02-2013 06:33 AM

Soooo.... I've received multiple pms asking about the "candy". Enough that I decided to post another description for potentially new swappers.

In my first 2.5" swap we called the small squares "candy" after the Moda sets of 2.5" squares. So...no real candy involved. One set would contain 50 DIFFERENT squares of 2.5" fabrics. Max set is 15. I choose 15 because I normally get 16 2.5" squares from one width of fabric. That leaves one for me, 15 to swap.

I'm sorry for the confusion and hope this helps clear up the question. :D
