Repeat a boom #3 aka rab #3

Hello, are we ready for RAB #3??? Ok it is now opened for sign ups.

Here are the rules.
his is an opportunity for those of you who want to have the same pattern done in specific colors. I want you to have fun with this. Please send me a PM to let you know that you want to join. I will need your board name, real name, address, email, phone number. I am the only one who will have this information. I will close the board at 13 or 17 people. I am giving the whole month of February for sign ups unless I get the 13 - 17 individuals sooner. If we get a lot more and have enough for two groups then we will have two groups. The ending date will be June 15th. So all blocks will need to be to me by June 15th.

How it works:
1) You will select a fabric or selection of fabrics from your stash (or you can buy new-up to you) and cut them in to Fat Eighths (18 x 11). You will send each member in the swap one F8 to work with. The person who receives the fabric will make you a block that you have selected from quilter’s cache with your fabric in it. (You may pick a pattern from somewhere else but need to send the pattern so everyone can make it.)
3) You may advise the person of colors you would prefer they use or not use.
4) In turn you will receive an F8 from each member in the swap and have to make them a block.

Rules/Guidelines:
(please make sure to also refer to the basic policies that apply to all swaps announced through the board: RULES FOR SWAPS AND SIMILAR ACTIVITIES - Updated 8 December 2010 )
1) Please make sure all fabric is prewashed prior to sending out. You do not have to wash the fabric you receive.
2) When sending your fabric please make sure it is in some kind of sealed item (Ziploc baggy, saran wrap) with a piece of paper or even a peel-off label with your name, address and quilt board name so that the items are protected and won’t get mixed up. Please do this when returning blocks as well. (This way if for some human reason the PO mangles a package the plastic has a chance at saving the work and with an address visible it just might make it home)
3) Please mail your F8 within three weeks of receiving the address list. This helps ensure we all have ample time to work on everyone's blocks.
4) Please handle all fabric received with the utmost care and place it somewhere where it won’t be lost or forgotten about.
5) In order to help keep track of the blocks sent and received I will be emailing out a chart to all members who participate so that you may fill it in as we go.
6) All blocks should be 12.5” unfinished.
7). Please remember to trim your threads, cut your dog ears...in essence remove any excess work from the back of your block that the receiver should not have to worry about. We do not want to have any extra bulk in these blocks that are not needed (harder to quilt them :-) )
8) You may sign the back of the block if you wish to or perhaps pin a small muslin square with your name, where you live and what the name of the block is.
9) Please measure your block before mailing it. We all started somewhere but it is nice to be able to get all the blocks back measuring the same size so the quilt can go together nicely. So measure, measure and when you think it is right, measure once more
10) Please make a block that you yourself would be happy and proud to call your own.
11) This is a one block per swapper swap. You will have to make 12 blocks.
12) Please be courteous to our swappers and post when you receive either someone's fabric or a completed block. This helps us to know the postal gremlins are not at work lol If for some reason you cannot get on the board to post please let me know and I will let the members know. We appreciate interaction with all of our swappers. You can do a weekly update as well if that works better for you.
13) Have FUN!!! This swap will let you explore making a specific block for someone. You will gain experience making blocks that you might not have selected on your own.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND FABRICS/BLOCKS WITH PERFUME OR OVERWHELMING FRAGRANCES ON THEM DUE TO ALLERGIES. THERE MAY BE MEMBERS OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES TO CERTAIN THINGS SO PLEASE TRY YOUR BEST TO NOT SEND ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE AN ATTACK

Also please remember when posting on the board to use members board names or just first names and not their full names. This is a courtesy to our members as the information here can be seen publicly and we do not want anyone to have that private info.

Please, NO public complaints or criticisms of other swappers, items received, or other type for any reason. ALL complaints must be addressed by Private Message (pm) to me. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE!!!!!

Just one more friendly reminder-please make sure your packages have proper postage on them-if you are unsure either take them to the PO or throw another stamp on. We do not want anyone to have to incur any extra expense during this fun time. Also be aware postage could run high on this swap so if you think that may be an issue you may not like this swap.

Love ya all,
Barb
urgodschild2

I am required to insist that participants send me a monthly PM to verify that they are still active in this swap and are working on their promised project.
I am required to insist that participants notify me as soon as they have finished their block(s) and are ready to mail it/them.
Once I have received notice that both partners are done and ready to mail, I will send both a PM to let them know it’s time to mail.
I am required to insist that all participants send me verification of shipment, to include tracking information.
Participants are required to ensure packages will not arrive “postage due.”
Any and all other fees, such as import duties, taxes, etc imposed by the recipient’s government are the sole responsibility of the recipient.
Absent legitimate and reported mitigating circumstances, participants who have not fulfilled their obligation to ship by [insert date here] shall be deemed “late” and risk receiving Negative [Swap] Feedback.
Please keep in touch with me as required as well as your partners. Please let me know right away if something happens that will interfere with your ability to complete your project on time

Barb:

I'm a little confused...do all the f8 and completed blocks get mailed to you or to individuals one at a time? It says we'll receive an address listing and to mail them out within 3 weeks.

It says you'll make 12 blocks but if we have 17 sign up, don't we make a block for each person?

Also, in the last paragraph it comments about keeping in contact with your partners?

I'm so confused... can you help me please?

Thanks
Lisa

jarenie 01-29-2015 12:37 PM

I will send a F8th to each member in my swap. Right?
Then I will send all the blocks that I make to YOU. Right?

Nelco 01-29-2015 05:34 PM

Yea! I am back in. Already sent you a PM.

urgodschild2 01-29-2015 08:18 PM

Wow I guess I should read what the heck I write. LOL. I just copied the rules from the main site. Some people wanted to extend the group to 17 people. That way everyone would get 16 blocks made. But I have a hard time getting 12, so I thought I would leave it open to see how many we get.

NEW RULES:::::
You do send your blocks to me and then I send them out to everyone. We no longer are allowed to send to each individual like we use to in the past. I forgot why but it is cheaper to send all your blocks to me and I send back to you. We do make a block for each person. I will have to figure out how to correct that info above. If I cant correct it then it will be here. I will just be repeating myself.
You will pick out the pattern you want to use. You can go to Blocks galore or Quilter's Cache. I think those are the same sight. If you find a pattern somewhere else you must include it with your material. You can decide if you want your material to all be the same or if you want to pick the back ground and then tell everyone you want scrappy or blue prints or green prints or whatever. You do not need to keep in touch with anyone but me. Actually if you post on the site here that is fine. Many people post the fabric they have selected and the pattern so everyone sort of gets a heads up in advance. So as far as do we make 12 blocks or 16 blocks it depends on how many we get to sign up. We need an odd number because you do not have to make your own block unless you want too.

Does this help????
Now I will go and see if I can fix the above rules.

Barb

Drats, I can't redo the above. YES you do send your material to me for everyone. In otherwords, Say i selected a bumble bee fabric. I would cut the material into F8 18 X 22 . I would put them in plastic baggies or wrap them in saran wrap or what ever you want to use with the person's name on it. YOu put them in a Prority envelope....Cost $6.10 and mail them all to me. I then separate all of them into each person's pile. I then mail them back to you in the self addressed envelope that you include in with your fabric with the $6.10 in stamps on it or money to me. I mail them all out to all of you. When you finish making everyone's blocks, you repeat the process of mailing them back to me in a priority envelop with a return envelop included for yours to come back to you.
When I get all the people signed up I will send to everyone the name of those in the swap. You will only have a name. I will be the only one who has addresses and phone numbers.
I will want to have all your fabric to me by March 3rd. I will then mail the patterns and materials from the others to you and they should go out by March 5th. They must be returned by June 15th. Than means they should be mailed back no later then June 11th.
I hope this clarifies everything for everyone.

moonwork42029 01-29-2015 08:32 PM

Thanks Barb for the clarification. I'm in a current "boom" and have done them in the past so I wasn't sure which way to read this. Now it's clear!

Since this goes to June, I think I'll be good to join also. I'll PM you the info.

Thanks again

Barb are you requesting that are blocks should be on the easier side to make? I don't want to sign up and disappoint someone who is asking for a block that is out of my league Thanks Terri

moonwork42029 01-30-2015 05:06 PM

http://www.quilterscache.com/L/LouisianaBlock.html

or

http://www.quilterscache.com/S/StarofVirginiaBlock.html

are probably what's I'll ask for...just have to choose which one.

On Quilterscache it shows that "one pin" means it is a basic assembly block...which is what I'm aiming for.

Pretty to look at but relatively easy to piece.

The hardest part is making sure that your fabric (11 x 18) is usable within your pattern...even if it takes some creativity.

I would have to suggest picking a block and then seeing if you can make it using your choice of fabric so you are sure of all the instructions before you send it out. If you find you need to clarify any of the instructions or cutting hints, you can share that information with your fellow makers.

that is my concern too - but I will try very very hard to meet everyones wishes. If everyone posts their block before hand I could practice beforehand!

I am strongly looking at http://www.quilterscache.com/M/MyBlu...ock_Page2.html

I am thinking of joining and this is the block I'd like but can't find the pattern. I know it's a Version of the Ohio star, does anyone know where I could find the pattern

I would like to join this but want to make sure I understand how this works, I cut my fat eighth, send it to the "boss" then she takes care of mailing it out to the specific person. I also pick a pattern and wait for the fabric to be sent to me I then make the block that I picked but with the fabric that I received then complete all the blocks send them back?

I think what you do is pick your fabric and your pattern. Send your F8 and pattern (or post the pattern here) to the "boss" who mails out the fabric and your chosen pattern to someone else. They will make the block you requested with your fabric and complimentary fabric, and send the completed block back.

So you're making a block with the pattern someone else picked out with their fabric.

Correct me if I'm wrong, because I want to make sure I understand it perfectly too. :)

moonwork42029 01-31-2015 06:41 AM

TPr9258 & Celandine:

You do send your f8 (11 x 18) along with your pattern to the Hostess of the swap. You can either make copies of the pattern (so you make special notes if you wish) or post what pattern you wish to have used with your fabric. If you mail copies of the pattern with your f8 you will know beyond a doubt everyone will have the correct pattern. Be sure to put your board name on the pattern in case it becomes separated from your f8. You will also need to be clear in your desires for your fabric - such as "Please use my f8 in the "xyz" portion of the pattern and please use "white or white on white" or "use any fabric that matches the colors in my f8 and have fun"...

You will then be making a block for each f8 you receive from the hostess. They should also either have the pattern enclosed along with any special notes or have the pattern posted on this thread. I'd still suggest at least putting the web location on paper to send with if you are unable to print out patterns for everyone. If you are unclear as to their requests, it's better to ask because others may also have the same question.

I haven't participated in this swap but I have participated in several boomerang swaps and love the idea of everyone creating the same pattern for me. As our hostess urgodschild2 has stated in the rules and perhaps the most scary part is being sure your block measures 12 1/2" correctly. If in doubt, to me, leave it a little bit oversize and let the receiver trim it down...easier to trim...real hard to get them to grow :).

Looking forward to this swap and having more fun. I just finished up my blocks for the Boomerang 14 April group if you wish to jump to that link and see what was made. That hostess has a link in her signature line that shows everyone's blocks so far.

moonwork42029 01-31-2015 06:53 AM

Oh also...if you aren't familiar with Quilterscache here's a link to the 12" blocks http://www.quilterscache.com/BlocksbySizeC.html

Special note --- they say 12" because that is their finished size .... The blocks you make should be 12 1/2" unfinished. Please don't trim your blocks down to 12" ...

Not to insult any one knowing or not knowing but it can be confusing and I'd rather be upfront and make sure we all are on the same page. "Finished" size is what your block would be after it is in a quilt. "Unfinished" is the block just laying on the table waiting to be included in it's permanent home in a quilt top.

Also if using a pattern from Quilterscache, I'd suggest using a "SCANT" 1/4" seam or you might have a size problem. Some of them are cut pretty tight.

TheMamaHauser 01-31-2015 06:51 PM

I think I have managed to give myself enough time to do this swap before we move in June. Barb, I will send you my info in a moment. Ladies, I hope no one will be super disappointed if I send the same fabric, same block as last time? I haven't made as much headway on that project as I'd hoped.

TPr9258 01-31-2015 09:11 PM

thanks moonwork42029
got it now, generally would be no problem, but I am afraid that I would not be able to do some of the squares because they would be to difficult, will continue to watch to site, interested in the squares people want made and then maybe the decision to join would be easier

moonwork42029 01-31-2015 09:37 PM

TPr9258.... after looking at your profile I doubt you'd have any problems doing most things in life! Wow... thank you for your past service as a veteran and as a nurse!

Jump on in...the very worst that could happen is you admit a block is too difficult and ask for suggestions or ask the sender if they wish to have a different block or mail their's back with a big mea cupla ... no harm no fouls.

At least that's how I'm looking at it and I don't do hard blocks by any means :)

celandine 02-01-2015 09:26 AM

I decided on a nice and simple pattern from Quilter's Cache!

I can do HST - have been practicing on them this past month!!

urgodschild2 02-01-2015 06:59 PM

To clarify.
You pick out your pattern and material. You send your pattern and material to the others. They make your block with your pattern and your material. When you get the package with everyone else's pattern and material....you make what they want with THEIR pattern and material. so you would make 12 - 16 blocks according to what each member wants.

moonwork42029 02-01-2015 07:06 PM

@urgodschild2 ... please re-clarify....

In the "new rules" all packages have to come to you and you distribute them ... we don't send anything to other swappers directly.... Per post #5

Not meaning to be a pain but I don't want to go back to being confuse...which I am heading that way.

I really thought I had it all figured out.

urgodschild2 02-01-2015 07:09 PM

I want to do the Plaited Block. I am thinking of red and black. I would send the red and black material and you all would add the white. But I could decide on another color. LOL.

http://www.quilterscache.com/P/PlaitedBlockBlock.html

urgodschild2 02-01-2015 07:15 PM

Yess, You send all your fabric to me. You make a bag up for each member with your pattern and material. YOu put all of them into an envelop and it cost about $6.10 to mail it. Put each members name on each bag or not. It is up to you. If you don't put any names on the bag it is faster for me to separate them into each person's bag but it doesn't matter to me. You also include another priority envelop with the stamps on it with your address so I can send you back the blocks you will make for everyone. Then when you finish making everyones blocks you send them back to me in a priority envelop and another envelop inside so I can send you back your finished blocks. I hope this helps all of you.
You do not send anything to other swappers.

urgodschild2 02-01-2015 07:17 PM

this is easy for me.

I have looked at the Quilters cache and even though they have the one yellow button etc. to tell you if they are easy or hard. Some of the one yellow buttons are difficult to do and some of the 2 buttons are easy. So tell us what you want to do and we can all decide if it is ok.

Barb

terriamn 02-02-2015 10:42 AM

Barb I agree with you some of the one pins have a zillion pieces and are very time consuming and difficult and other blocks that are super simple have two pins like the Maple leaf, no way it should be a two pin in my eyes..

Nelco 02-02-2015 06:53 PM

This is the block I would like made, I would send the back ground and a sample of the colors I would like the stars.

Wow... that one looks rather involved with 1/4" and 3/8" measurements for the 12" block.

I'm not sure of how to read the cutting instructions either as it looks like there are a lot of bias edges.

I'm game but hope leery.

terriamn 02-03-2015 07:16 AM

I think the Judy Martin one is also out of my league

Nelco 02-03-2015 09:36 AM

I was kind-of afraid of that. Will go back to the drawing board.

ljdugas31 02-03-2015 02:07 PM

Thanks I was getting nervous!!! LOL

ljdugas31 02-03-2015 02:47 PM

I was thinking I would like the block called Mrs.Taft's choice. It looks easy but let me know how you all feel about it.
