Yippee! Anne called me. She has been traveling. She will be home soon and she will post on this board.
Yvonne, I am in the sorting and packing for garage sales: sorting for ebay sales, packing for Keep stuff, and throw away or donate stuff stage.

Well, sounds like you're well on your way! Are you excited?

travelinggramma 08-03-2013 07:23 PM

Have been busy doing the two boomerang swaps - I love it so as I can always work on one block in any fabric - just not alot of blocks the same! It lets me play with new patterns and different fabric that I wouldn't have ever used.
I am playing with teacups - using delft and pale yellow - making my cousin a table topper and possibly a center for this round. Will see how it goes.
And then on top of this - my grandson (8) asked for a quilt - one with hunting and fishing (his two favorite things to do). The quilt stores here had nothing in either venue so I just had to go online and order some fabric. ;}
Plus on the 22nd we fly back to the eastcoast for almost three weeks to visit family and I want to have finished my center and most of the other projects before I leave.
Yip my plate keeps getting packed!

Wonnie 08-04-2013 05:05 AM

It's good to have a "packed plate"...keeps you busy and the ol' mind oiled!!!!

Hope the weather is as nice as it is here when you get to the east coast. We're are enjoying 70 and low 80 degree weather with delicious drop at night in the 50's.

Never done a boomerang...don't know how it works. When you have time maybe you can fill me in. Finished my first mug rug swap and it was fun. Also, my first Secret Pal swap in July and working on the August one now.
Show us the table runner when you get it finished....it sounds delicious!

Still vacillating over the center for my RR. I'll be on time for mailing though.

Have a great time on vacation and be safe!

jclinganrey 08-04-2013 07:22 AM

Yep. Boomerangs are fun. I'm in my 2nd one - - - the Sterope group. They're fun, Yvonne. Each 'Boomer' sends a fat eighth (F8) to all others in the same group (my group has 16 people) and I receive a F8 from each of them. We each make a block in the various fabrics. Sometimes there are particular requests/color preferences we're asked to follow. We have 4 months to finish all blocks are return to the sender. This time, we have a fast group who has 2 months to finish and return their blocks.

If you're interested, I can post a pic of my first Boom.

Need to add a few 'trees' along the bottom of the San Gabriel mountains then I'll be all set to go.

Jane

Wonnie 08-04-2013 07:41 AM

Definitely, yes, I'm interested. Are the blocks always a specific size? I'm a little dense....So, can the 16 blocks all be the same design? Where do they go once you're finished and what do you end up with? (TOLD you I was dense!
I'm am a visual person...you're making me THINK!!!!!!)

ssnare 08-04-2013 10:02 AM

Yvonne, each block goes back to its original owner, the person who sent you their fabric, and you get back the fabric you sent that each person made you a block out of. Then you make a quilt or table top or what ever you want. Look at my profile and click on the pictures from the boom swaps. The blocks are usually a specific size. Sometimes the group is up to 37 people. I have been in several small groups and a large group. I sent my state flowers fabric for one swap and guitar/music fabric for another.

Okay, I have to be as dumb as a rock! (No, you're not allowed to comment on that!!!!!!!!!!!)
Checked all the pictures in the boom swaps off of your profile Sherry and I see a few that might have used the same fabric but many are of completely different colorings (????) This sounds a little pricey to me as in, did you need to send fabric to all 37 members in the large group? ....and how do you know how much to send?

ssnare 08-04-2013 11:38 AM

You send a fat 8th to each person and they send a fat 8th to each person in the group. You make what ever block you want with their fat 8th. You add fabric to coordinate with their block. Yes it gets a little pricey with shipping, but in the end, you have beautiful blocks of your fabric. The blocks have usually been 12 1/2" blocks. Lovingizabella has been hosting these. Another one will probably not start for several months.

travelinggramma 08-05-2013 07:59 AM

Yvonne - go to
http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...p-t225487.html
or just search boomerang on QB and follow one of the groups. The first page has all the instructions. We all are to make a 12.5" block for everyone in our group from their fabric they sent us. And they use our fabric and make a 12.5" block and return it to us. A great way to use our stash and to try out new patterns and work with different fabric that we normally may not play with. It does help stretch me! And in the end you have enough blocks to make a quilt! Most send everyone the same fabric, others send a variety.

Wonnie 08-05-2013 01:09 PM

Thanks for all the info ladies! Always willing to try something new!

Yvonne - -

The quilt blocks are 12 1/2" and can be whatever pattern we choose. I usually try to 'mix it up' a little and make a variety of different quilt blocks. When I finish each quilt block, I mail it back to the sender. Then, she will have lots (16 in my current Boom) of blocks made from the same focus fabric. Sometimes, senders will send a few different fabrics. In the end, I will have 16 blocks made from the F8 fabric I sent to the other participants.

It's really fun. The current Boom just started in July and will finish November 1st. Keep an eye out on the QB for sign-up for the next Boom.

Yes, there is the expense of postage. In my first Boom, I was mailling not only to several people in the US, but also in Canada, the UK and Australia!! My current Boom is all US participants. Whew!

Update on your row: as I was putting the blocks together, I realized there was a 'North/South' component to your quilt and my blocks were not going the right direction!!! AAAAaaahhhhh - - - so, I had to do some 'frog' stitching and will have to do some re-arranging to make it flow the right direction. It all started with Barbaras' Mississippi River. Well, you understand. . . will be in the mail on Wednesday.

Jane

Wonnie 08-06-2013 05:27 AM

Ah-h-h-h-h......frog stitching....how familiar we all are with that! Sorry for the extra work Jane.
Take however much time you need. ..........just prolongs the excitement and anticipation  . Will keep an eye out for the Nov. info on the next Boom!

jclinganrey 08-07-2013 08:49 AM

No apologies needed, Yvonne. It's all part of the process, right? Who among us is not familiar with our friend, the seam ripper?? lol

I think I decided

1 Attachment(s)
I am finally happy with my tea cup and tea pot (well almost! - now that I look at the pic I need to fix the handle of the pot) and this just may be my center. This is my final free long weekend until mid Sept. as I will either be working or traveling and visiting relatives on the east coast. I really wanted to get this project ready to go out the door when we get back! What do you'all think - do you want to work with my peaceful time quilt block?

Wonnie 08-09-2013 01:01 PM

Sure.....sounds good to me travelingramma. What size do you think it will be?

jclinganrey 08-09-2013 01:56 PM

travelingramma - -

It's beautiful. Funny thing - - I was thinking of the same kind of idea but in shabby chic colors. So should I think of something else or go with my idea?

Jane

Wonnie 08-09-2013 02:09 PM

To my way of thinking it doesn't make any difference if two centers are alike....they'll be in different colors and end up in two different homes. Go for it! Who knows.......maybe I'll do a tea set, too!!!

travelinggramma 08-09-2013 03:59 PM

Oh Jane - Tea for all of us - that sounds good!! How different they will be! Maybe I can add a few teacups to yours!!
I think mine will be starting at 12 x 18. I am thinking that this will be for me when I want to curl up with a book and my cup of tea!

Wonnie 08-10-2013 03:48 PM

Hey Sherry...just checkin' up on you...bet you're exhausted.

ssnare 08-10-2013 06:51 PM

Jane, go for it. I like tea cups and tea pots. I like your center traveling grandma.

Annemixon 08-14-2013 02:43 PM

I'm kinda late signing in. My name is Anne, I live in a small town in SC and love it here. I own my own business and have three children and one grandaughter. I am the SC Coordinator for Quilts of Valor so that keeps me busy as well. This is my first Round robin so I'm excited to get started.

Anne

ssnare 08-14-2013 03:28 PM

Welcome Anne. Luv to have you here with us. Communication is a big part of the success of a round robin. We will be looking forward to see pictures of everyone's centers. I am not rushing anyone, but I am in the process of moving, so my center is done and ready to send.

Wonnie 08-14-2013 04:20 PM

Hi Annemixon! Welcome to our little corner of the world. Just finishing a Round Row Robin but this will be my first Round Robin, too! Our last group was spread all over the country...Kansas, Indiana, Ohio, Mississippi a

Wonnie 08-14-2013 04:24 PM

(continuing on!!!!!!!!) and California...This group has members from Kansas, California, Arizona, South Carolina and Ohio. It's fun to get to know everyone. Still dithering on my center. Just when I think I know what I'm going to do I get another idea but, I'll be ready to mail by Oct. 1!!!! Good to hear from you Annemixon!

ssnare 08-15-2013 08:09 AM

I am switching the order of mailing around due to some allergies.
Sherry mails to Jane
Jane mails to Anne
Anne mails to Janet
Janet mails to Yvonne
Yvonne mails to Sherry

Jane and Anne please pm me and I will send your new shipping information. Thank you, Sherry

jclinganrey 08-15-2013 08:36 AM

Sherry - -

I have the mailing information.

Jane

ssnare 08-15-2013 11:44 AM

That is great Jane. How is your crazy block swap coming along?
Please let me know when you are ready for me to send my center.

Wonnie 08-15-2013 11:59 AM

Why are we starting to send our centers so early? This is just the middle of August...................or is it just because you're moving Sherry and want to get one less thing out of your hair....could certainly understand that!!!!

ssnare 08-15-2013 07:05 PM

Yvonne, that is exactly why.

Wonnie 08-16-2013 04:51 AM

Must admit for a moment there I was a little panicked wondering how I would accomplish that...whew!:D....but, would do exactly the same thing if the opportunity was available to me. Knowing me I'd probably pack it up accidentally in the "throw away" box!!!!!!

travelinggramma 08-16-2013 05:22 PM

I am already starting to get withdrawal. I am taking my sewing machine into get cleaned, etc while we are away. All I did was take it off the table and prepare to bring it tomorrow. Figured I would use the time to clean up the sewing areas. But I wanted to sew something - anything!! I will be away until 9/8 so won't be online very often. Visiting my mom, daughter, grands, extended family - good times!

Sherry -

Go ahead and send your center. I'm crazy busy getting ready for my guilds' quilt show coming up in September. I'm chair of our quilt challenge. AAAAAhhhhhh !!!!! I can't even think about getting my RR center put together until after the quilt show. So send, Sherry. I will have mine ready by the due date.

My Crazy quilt swap only has 3 people signed up so far. Kind of disappointed in the response - - - :(

Hope everyone is well.

Jane

Wonnie 08-18-2013 02:39 PM

I'm sorry, Jane...just couldn't add one more thing to my plate and do any of it justice but the Crazy Quilt swap does sound like fun. Good luck!

Wonnie 08-22-2013 02:33 PM

Miss hearing from you Sherry. How are things going with the moving?

Wonnie 09-10-2013 06:03 AM

What's everyone been up to? Think I'm all caught up on my obligations so will make final decision on center...(I've only changed my mind a gazillion times!!!)

travelinggramma 09-10-2013 05:37 PM

I just got back from a vacation. Hoping that i will be able to organize things this weekend and get my center etc ready to go. What center are you all going to send?

ssnare 09-11-2013 03:36 AM

I sent mine to Jane. I hope she got it.

Wonnie 09-12-2013 03:20 PM

Well, I decided not to make myself crazy. I'm almost finished with a "Honey Bee" quilt block
but not sure I like it. Did it in modern fabric to give it a little twist but when I put it together it
looked more like something from the 1940's which is okay...just not what I was going for.
I'm, also, considering a Sunbonnet Sue in 1930's fabric.
Decisions, decisions, decisions !!!!!
