Round Robin #10
This round robin is meant to be a fun, social and learning experience. There is no skill level requirement, only to do the best work that you can. You should not feel that every round has to be a very complex design…sometimes the quilt will just need something very simple added at that particular point. If you have concerns about what to add at any point, feel free to ask for help from others in your group, the host of the RR, other sewing friends, or even the owner of the center. Remember…this is FUN!

Center should be any size between 12 "- 24 "finished, dividable by 3. (Be sure to add ½” for seam allowance!) The center may be square or rectangular. (The center block, all borders, cornerstones, or whatever should be carefully squared each step of the project.). The size of your center will determine the finished size of your quilt.
Borders will be 3 1/2" - 9 1/2" dividable by 3's again. (The center block, all borders, cornerstones, or whatever should be carefully squared each step of the project.)
Option - in lieu of any one of the first 2 rounds, the block may be turned on point, if appropriate. Triangles are then added to each side of the "diamond" to make it into a square again. Appliqué or embellish the corners.
• The bigger you make it the more the people adding rounds will have to do.
• Fabric: 100% cotton, washed. Please do not use any scented spray or item near fabric. Some of our members have allergies to scents, animals, smoke, etc.
• Include a label that each person may sign and a journal if desired. . Please use a Black Pigma pen or some type of black permanent fabric marker. You might want to leave enough room for everyone to list their name along with their board name, their city, state, country, and the date.

• Be sure to include instructions in your journal so the others know what you envision as a finished project. What will the finished project be used for: tablecloth, wall hanging, or lap quilt? Will your quilt have a season theme or color scheme?
• Each round should be worked. This means, a border needs to be more than just a single strip of fabric added. Examples of borders: add something in the corners, add several rows of borders, piece borders, appliqué borders, paper piece borders, hand embroider on borders, etc.. You can add an appliqué to a previous border, but you must add to that border.
This is a learning experience. Try new things!
• The owner is free to alter, add, adjust or do anything they want with the quilt.
We will be posting pictures with each round, unless you specify that you do not want to see your quilt until it is finished. For most of us…we just can’t wait.
Please stay on target for the mailing dates. You will have 2 months between mailings. If something happens that will cause you to be late mailing, please email the person who you will be mailing to and the leader of the group.

Graciously accept your finished quilt
Sometimes the final quilt owner will want to add more embellishments or add an additional border, but everyone who worked on your quilt used their best abilities. After the RR has closed, of course it is your quilt to do whatever you choose. We will all look forward to seeing the quilted final product! Please do not post pictures that show alterations or changes in someone else’s work though. Please be conscious of others feelings. If this isn’t acceptable to you, please DO NOT play.

Tips and Lessons Learned:
1. Print off the rules, mailing dates, your group mailing list.
You will be referring back to it.
2 Don’t panic…hang the top for a few days and let it speak to you. They tend to “tell you what they need next”.
3. If you are trying something new….do it on the separate border, do NOT sew it to the quilt until you are sure it worked.
4. Please DO NOT let tops pile up on you. If you need help, ask…there are others who can and will step in to help you through a time crunch bind. We can work it out.
5. Please handle the quilts carefully. We all drag them around to show them off to friends, guild members, LQS, etc. but when doing so, we can stretch the borders so the finished quilt doesn’t lie flat. Please make sure it does lie flat prior to mailing it on to the next person.
6. If for ANY reason, you feel the need to resign from doing this at ANY point in the "game", PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let me know! It's not fair to the others for someone to just pull out, not tell anyone and keep what is not theirs.
7. No public criticism. If you are having a problem with something, please notify your leader.

Mailing dates:
Oct. 1, 2013
Dec. 1, 2013
Feb. 1, 2014
April 1, 2014
June 1, 2014

You will always send to the same person. Have fun.

I am here!

wanda lou 07-16-2013 06:32 AM

I am here too. Happy to see our little group.

Cogito 07-16-2013 12:01 PM

Yep, now I gotta get serious and plan a center! Greetings ROCKIN Robins!

Cogito 07-16-2013 12:03 PM

Don't forget to bookmark this thread.....book the others too so you can see what the other groups are creating. If you need help with that, pm me.

scaroca 07-16-2013 03:55 PM

I am here too. Looking forward to working on some fantastic quilts with everyone.

Cogito 07-16-2013 05:09 PM

Scaroca,
I am a Nebraska native, grew up in Omaha. Moved to Hastings when married and raised our 4 children there. Very nice to have a Nebraskan in my group. :)

zzmom 07-16-2013 05:58 PM

Hello fellow Rockin Round Robins! Greetings from Oregon:) I'm very excited to be a part of this group. This is my first RR and I am looking forward to learning and creating some fun and pretty borders for you all. I have yet to start on my center block but hope to do that this weekend.

Cogito 07-17-2013 04:54 AM

Wanda Lou and Difergie.....looks like we have a couple QB veterans based on feedback score! :)
Zzmom, first RR eh? Well this will be lots of fun!

our group should decide if they want pictures posted along the way....doesn't need to be consensus. If someone wants to see progress on their quilt and another doesn't we are a small enough group we should be able to keep it straight....what do you think? I think I will like to see pictures on each round...I just get too excited to wait! :D

zzmom 07-17-2013 05:25 AM

Good Morning RR Robins! I have no objection to posting pictures along the way. So am I the only first-timer to a RR in our group? Just curious. Everyone has to start somewhere right?:)

Difergie 07-17-2013 06:52 AM

I like to see pictures and please communicate along the way! When you receive and when you send especially! I have gotten some beautiful rrobins back but also had one that stopped along the way and was never seen again. Can not wait to work on your centers and looking forward to getting them.
Zz-everyone is a first timer once...you will do great!
di

Cogito 07-17-2013 03:58 PM

OK Wanda Lou, you said your center is done....so picture pretty please! :)

Cogito 07-18-2013 02:57 AM

So to make sure we all understand, you will be mailing to the same person every time....the order of our names listed at the start of this thread is the order in which we send...that means I send to zzmom then down the list and Difergie sends to me. So we each have a sending partner and a receiving partner....you can work with the partner you receive from on whether you are ok receiving the next round early. For example....Difergie I am OK receiving your center early and any other tops if you are a fast worker.....because I work slooooow. However, there is no expectation to receive before the deadline, it is at your discretion.

Cogito 07-18-2013 03:04 AM

I agree with Difergie....please post to this thread when you have received the next round and when you are sending on...I think it is important that we share as much as possible on the thread (vs pm'ing) cause we are a small group and that helps keep us all connected. Don't forget to post pictures! We wanna see. :) Please be as active as possible on the thread so we can all keep our creative juices flowing.....that means: I don't wanna see 6 out of 12 posts be mine! :D

scaroca 07-18-2013 06:01 AM

I have yet to pick out what I am going to do for my center. I love seeing pics of the quilts in progress. I am not very good with the computer so I may need help posting pics. Luckily my quilting abilities are way better than my computer abilities. lol

scaroca 07-18-2013 06:05 AM

I forgot to mention. I did a row robin quilt before with this website group and I did a round robin quilt with a different group that I am no longer with. But I love seeing what other people come up with. And I always hope the others love what I do on their quilts. I am so excited to get started again.

Fabrics for my center block

1 Attachment(s)
Hi Ladies-
These are the fabrics I have chosen for my center block which I hope to start this weekend. I will post a photo of it when I am done. I love the colors in all of these fabrics. Photo's never quite capture the true colors. Oh well:)

scaroca 07-18-2013 04:44 PM

very pretty fabric cant wait to see your block

Cogito 07-18-2013 05:46 PM

Oh yes zzmom....Moda's Basic Grey PB &J! I love this line. Excited to see what you do with it.

Difergie 07-18-2013 06:23 PM

What do the letters say? Like the material!

Cogito 07-18-2013 07:00 PM

Difergie, the fabric has all the letters of the alphabet...it will be fun to see what zzmom does with it. :)

zzmom 07-18-2013 09:16 PM

Yes, that is right. My plan at this point is to see if I can incorporate a special word in the block with the letters. We'll see how it goes. Hopefully the plan in my head translates to the cutting of the fabric and block!

Cogito 07-23-2013 04:08 AM

Uh oh, we've fallen by the wasyide! Sorry I am frantically trying to finish my second doll quilt this month. Sent the first one off to Australia and now gotta get this one off to NY before the weekend and it is fast approaching! I promise that I will be sharing my ideas here soon Anyone else have any creative ideas flowing? Don't forget to SHARE! :)
How about it WandaLou?

scaroca 07-23-2013 05:42 PM

Well I think I have narrowed it down to a couple of ideas. I am hoping to put something together tomorrow. Wish me luck. Making that final decision is a tough one.

Wishing you the Luck O' the Irish scaroca.! :D I agree it is very tough! That is why I have been running so far behind on my doll quilt that is due in less than a week. I just couldn't seem to come up with the right plan. i will be anxiously awaiting your final decision. :)

scaroca 07-25-2013 05:45 AM

I did it. I picked a pattern and material. Even got it washed. Today I am actually going to try and find time to make it. I sure hope I can figure out how to post pictures.

This is my center. It is composed of pieces from a miniature swap I did on this board not too long ago. I put some of them together to make this center and have done nothing since then. So this is a good opportunity to get if finished.
It will be 15 1/2" after I trim off some of the outer border....I am looking forward to this RR!

Oh how fun Difergie! Thanks so much for sharing. You come to me first, so now I will get my creativity cap on... I know others are busily working on theirs....I have not because I am trying to finish up a doll quilt for the swap....I had two partners this month and the 2nd quilt has caused me a little angst for some reason. But I am almost done and then on to this RR!
Keep it coming ROCKIN Robins! Just think, our initials are:RRRR!...ROCKIN Robin's Round Robin, lol!

scaroca 07-27-2013 03:33 PM

Difergie- your center block is really pretty! Love the variety of colors and pictures in it. I'm still in the cutting phase of making mine. Have been pulled away from it by work. Hope to get more free time next weekend to work on it. I too, am looking forward to this RR.

Sorry to hear of your injury! Ouch!! Hope it will heal quickly for you.

Cogito 07-27-2013 06:03 PM

Scaroca, I am so sorry to hear of your injury! I hope it heals quickly. I often wondered if I should buy one of those gloves....hmmmm, maybe!

Cogito 08-04-2013 10:02 AM

Greetings ROCKIN Robins.....any updates from anyone yet? I will be starting my creation tomorrow. Not sure what I will come up with, but it will be fun I am sure!

Cogito 08-04-2013 10:02 AM

How is your hand doing scaroca?

zzmom 08-04-2013 07:50 PM

Good evening RRR's- I am making very slow progress on my center mostly due to lack of time and working too much:( Hoping to change that tomorrow and get some sewing time in:). I ran out of one of my fabrics made a dash to the fabric store only to find the fabric I wanted was all sold out so I have been thinking about how to work around this tiny road block. Hope your all enjoying bringing your block to life!

[QUOTE=zzmom;6215941] I ran out of one of my fabrics made a dash to the fabric store only to find the fabric I wanted was all sold out so I have been thinking about how to work around this tiny road block. [/QUO!TE]

Hi zzmom, have you searched online for the fabric? Or have you posted on here that you were looking for certain fabric? It might be a solution for you. Can't wait to see your pictures!

Cogito 08-05-2013 02:20 AM

Thanks for keeping us posted zzmom! Yes I agree with Nexxus831. I work in a LQS and may be able to help you out. Please tell us what you are looking for.

zzmom 08-05-2013 05:03 AM

Thanks Melinda and Cognito for your tips and help. I got the problem resolved and am ready to start stitching today! I woke up quite early (not sure why?) and finished all the cutting. It feels good just making that little bit of progress. I will post a photo when I get the center done, not sure if that will be today. How are you two doing on your center blocks?
