LOL...I do my best thinking there! I need you to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me HONESTLY if you don't like any of them 'cause I am still thinking!! They are all applique ideas. 1st idea - I thought about doing the "present" for your ladies past and present in silhouettes. For example, I was thinking of say doing a little girl silhouette, not in black but solid to match background, like say if it is a pink/burgandy floral background the little girl would be burgandy. Here is an example of what I mean by silhouette: http://karenswhimsy.com/girl-silhouette.shtm Then one block could be a teen with more "hip" background fabric. And have them age or something like that. 2nd idea - Was to do a row of dresses along the same line with the "aging" process. Like the first little dress would be a baby girl dress, then the next would be a little girl, then teen, the wedding or something like that. These would be more "present" looking as well. 3rd idea - Just ladies "stuff" like a dress shoe in one block, a evening gown in one block, a hat in one block, etc. Or say a whole row of hats that span the years from say, bonnets to 20s style to now kind of thing...that might be hard...hmm. OK...that's all I have but I can think of others if you don't like any of these. If you like all, which do you like best?? Also, I was thinking of the "present" ladies the whole time....if you want to keep it all victorian, I can rethink them with that theme too. I want you to LOVE your row so please feel totally free to tell me your thoughts! Gail, do not worry okay...I love your ideas...I really like #1 or #2...what creative ideas you have..I will totally love my row cuz first of all, you made it and 2nd we are in a group...so no worry...very thoughtful ideas...:)

Oh good! I feel so much better. Also, I just realized that I will be the last person to get yours so we will both have a really good idea of what will look good at that point :D

1. Original row w/your row attached (plus any sashing originator included) 2. Journal with picture, if possible. (Can be printed out on regular printer paper if you don't have time or access to regular photo print) 3. Extra "leftover" block for back with your screen name. Not necessarily with theme, but fabrics so you connect who did which row on front. 4. Quilt label or signature block for swap title, screen name, real name, date, location Did I get that right? Do you all agree? If we all include a picture of us working on each row, the owner can use that to make her own collage for the back. Comments? |

I will get busy with my quilt label...I will do an embroidery one with signature lines as well...but first I need to use Bubble jet on the fabric so the signatures wont get washed away..(I will do that before I do the embroidery) |

Is someone going to print or have printed the labels for each of the quilts so that they will all match? I think that's a great idea, and I don't mind pitching in to pay for it.
What exactly are we putting in the journal and what's up with the picture? Is it for us, or one for each of us? Nancy, I am concerned about your theme. If you want all the stars on black, are you going to provide the black fabric or do you want all different shades and patterns of black? Since I am blessed with getting it first, help me out here. Also, do you want stars are solid colors, or are batiks, etc. ok? And do you want brights, neons, lights, paisleys (just kidding, but you know what I mean)? And if I get this first and you aren't doing the black, does that mean black on black is ok? Need a little refining on this one. |
FQ Stash Queen -- don't be concerned. I'm going to send a strip of colored sashing to put between each row so the blacks won't really touch each other. Black solid, black mottle, black on black -- all ok as long as it "reads" black. At first I was thinking of using batiks, but lately the ones I've seen are softer tones. I'm looking for bright -- solids, neons; I want it to glow out from the black background. Besides, batiks are getting so darn expensive... If I find the patterns I'm looking for, I'll post a picture of kinda-sorta what I'm aiming towards. It won't be difficult, and probably the easiest row to do.
This is going to be for me. I guess the journal entries would include who was working on the row, time of year, description of geographic location, maybe some small talk about what's going on at the time (eg. holiday prep, kids, grandkids, major events). Small talk, rambling thoughts, anecdotes, recipes, etc. In your case maybe where you happen to be at the time. Picture would be us working on each of the other quilts so four separate pix and then maybe a pic of each of us with our completed quilt. That way we have a face to put with each row in the journals. I believe the consensus was that each of us would take care of our own quilt label. Am I right on this, everybody????? I don't want to be a dictator -- I want everybody happy and everybody to get what they want. |

Nancy, if you don't mind, could you please post a list of the order of the themes so we can "think ahead"? I can't for the life of me find my original PM. Know we have a pink/brown and a ladies/girls, which I don't quite get. Is that all of them? Thanks

You will be mailing to me each time. First you'll mail your own row, then you'll get, add a row and send me the following in this order: Nancy in Louisiana - She has the bright solid stars on a black background. Full block size or combinations of smaller blocks for a scrappier look. Pamesue - pink and brown sampler blocks; there is a picture of her finish row on page 2 of this thread: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-85982-2.htm TF Quilter - ladies/girls of past & present; there is a picture of her finished row on page 3 and she has answered a bunch of questions about it so just read after her picture and you can see where we all asked all kinds of stuff: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-88719-1.htm (scroll down about half way down page) Qbee - My theme is "SPRING". Think girly...LOL. I love it all....tend to prefer brights but with Spring I think pastels and brights will actually be pretty together. I'm picturing flowers, bee, butterflys, ladies in bonnets (hint for TF..LOL!), watering cans, dogwood trees, anything "Spring" :D Here a reminder of due dates: Row 1 -- Feb 15 Row 2 -- April 15 Row 3 -- June 15 Row 4 -- Aug 15 Row 5 -- Oct 15 I hope this helps!! I'm SOOOO excited :D |

Y'all are getting way too high tech on these labels --- sounds like a lot of work (lol).
OK , now that everything is as clear as mud (well, maybe mud where the silt has settled and the top is somewhat clear). As far as my star blocks go, I'm just aiming towards bright mottled or solids (no dots, checks, flowers, stripes, paisleys, etc) on a mostly black background. Batiks are fine, and black-on-blacks are fine (where did you find them?). I suppose I'll start working on my blocks tonite since my DQ is done and I'm still waiting to hear confirmation from my "Qltg in the New Year" buddy. It's COLD here (not supposed to be), and I'm oh so ready to just curl up with my Kindle in my bed. |
let me know how the home made bubble jet works...

Nancy, since you have to mail to me each time, I'll PM my phone number so you can call for an address each time. Assuming we are all doing priority with tracking, it should get to me just fine. You just won't have a permanent address. It's really not that difficult.

Yeah, I hate when that happens, too.
I'm hooked on Connecting Threads, too. And isn't it awful that we have to order at least $50 to get free shipping? Oh, darn. Anyway, the phone number seems like a great way of keeping up with you. I'm going to be away from Monday til next Sun, then I will get serious about finishing my row. Just pm me your number, or I can give you my e-mail. |
Hey Nancy...can you add our name to the name of our thread? Like where it says Row Robin 2011 - Group 6....so we can see it when looking through all the threads :D
|
Hi Nancy, so nice to meet you. My husband and I grew up in Baton Rouge, but moved when we married back in 1966. His brother lives in Shreveport, but used to live in Lake Charles, so I am familiar with where you live. Gotta love those Cajuns:-) I love your style of retirement! I had to smile when you talked about how much fabric and how man patterns you had collected. I can relate! But I love being surrounded by such beautiful fabric. If I never made another thing, it will have served a purpose, but I do hope to quilt for many years to come. I too am a grandmother in my 60's. Nice to hear from a Louisiana friend!

Question: Are we supposed to insure this and if so, for how much? |

Just got back last nite from a cruise to Mexico (where it was in the 80's) and am struggling with reality (sat at the kitchen table for over an hour and no one showed up with my coffee or the breakfast menu. And no one made up my bed yet. Sometimes reality sucks. Anyway, now I need to get really serious about my row. As far as insuring goes, I don't know what to say. We may want to when it gets near the end, but I haven't checked out cost or value ranges. I'll go along with whatever majority says. Now where is that steward with my coffee .....

The cruise made a quick stop in Progresso and then on to Cozumel. Progresso is a real dump. We went only to the small shops by the docking pier. I don't think it's real safe to go into the city, which was a cab ride away. The next day we went to Cozumel which had a lot more shops in a grouping by the pier. We walked across the street into the outskirts of the city, but again, not a really nice and clean place to be. I did enough damage to my wallet in a few hours to satisfy me. Ship only stayed there for only about 7 hours.
It was great to get away from everything - no phones, tv,barking dogs to let out/in, etc. It's also great to be waited on so much. I went with a bunch of girl friends. DH would never enjoy something like that -- he's too active, and I was perfectly content to sit in sun and read. |
