OK Folks.....WELCOME TO GROUP #1!!!!
I think before we do anything we should come up with a name.....so ya'll give your ideas when you check in.
Also, go ahead and start giving your themes, etc.
I'm really excited and can't wait to work on each of your tops :)

Qbee 09-17-2012 05:07 PM

I had our order wrong in terms of how we will send our rows. Please use this list for sending order:

Qbee 09-17-2012 05:17 PM

Ooopss.....I forgot to give my theme. I am turning my son's old bedroom in to a room with a patriotic theme. My husband's father was a retired Lt. Colonel pilor in the Air Force and we have his burial flag as well as many framed medals that I want to put in the room. We also have my father's burial flag and medals. So basically the room will honor both of our fathers. I figure red, white and blue traditional and star blocks. What do ya'll think? :)

Linda58 09-18-2012 03:36 AM

Qbee, the idea for your room to honor your fathers is so heart warming. Reading it gave me goosebumps. I have an uncle who died in WW2, my father fought in WW2 and Korea, my husband was in the USAF for 7 years and our son was in the Army. I am very patriotic, and when I see someone in military uniform I tear up every time. I think you have a great idea for your quilt and I will be honored to add to it.

That sounds beautiful, Qbee! I hope I can do justice to it. :)

My theme is "Patriotic Civil War Sampler", made with civil war repro fabrics in deep reds, grayish-blues, off-whites, tans, etc. Below is a photo of my blocks (not sewn together yet). I'd like to add sashing and cornerstones between the blocks, and can include them when I mail it off. Will that be okay with everyone?

Just to make sure I understand the mailing process, I'll be mailing to Babeyruth every time, correct? Sorry if that's a dumb question. This is my first Row Robin. :o

Qbee 09-18-2012 05:42 PM

I love you row Moonrise....you can do the same one for my top and it will fit right in......LOL :)
And yes, you are correct, you will send to Babeyruth everytime.

SazuBMidlands 09-20-2012 10:47 AM

Woohoo! Really looking forward to this!
I like the idea of your patriotic quilts, I just hope that having a Brit contribute won't be a problem. We've been having red, white and blue everywhere this summer, first for the Queens diamond jubilee, and then the Olympics. It's been great.
I still need to finalize my theme. Are we ok doing sashing or not? Also does anyone have thoughts on prewashing or not?

Qbee 09-20-2012 06:10 PM

OK....I stole this from one of the other leaders but it was SO well done....LOL :D

Mailing dates are:
1st Row – mail by Dec. 1st
Row 2 – Feb. 1st
Row 3 – April 1st
Row 4 – June. 1st
Row 5 – Aug. 1st

A few things to think about:

Correspondence - include with your starter row. This could be a piece paper, note card or anything you choose. Consider this your opportunity to express your preferences, such as colors, techniqes, and what not to do/use. Perhaps you prefer to join your rows when they come home to you - you would state that in your correspondence.

Labels - Send along a label with your starter row for each person to sign. This can be as simple or fancy as you want.

Sashings - Does anyone in the group have objections if any of the swappers wants to send along sashing to be used to join the rows together? It may affect the cost of shipping.

Mailing the rows - What is the preference of the group - do we mail according to the dates, or do we want to mail the rows as soon as they are finished?

What are we forgetting to address?
Suggestions?
Comments?

Let's get this party started :D :D :D :D

babeyruth 09-20-2012 06:10 PM

Hi All!

Thank you Qbee for volunteering to run our group! I love playful names, for example One-der Bunch! Sort of a play on words.

Anyways I guess my theme is for a modern look. Not necessarily a thing, but I hope you all love my row. My vote is for the rows not to be attached since I would like the option to put them in order when they come home. I am more than happy to sew on any sashing if someone provides one, but I will wait to add my own on later since the color schemes could affect what I want to use.

I look forward to doing this and having fun!

Qbee 09-20-2012 06:12 PM

I LOVE the ONE-der Bunch as a name for our little group :D

SazuBMidlands 09-21-2012 04:39 AM

I'm happy to sash, not sash or sash on return, I don't mind. I'm still between a sashed theme and a non sashed theme though. Clearly not very decisive.

I was going to try to post early since it takes about 10 days. I'd probably avoid posting too early though, unless the person you post to is almost ready for it.

Should I have had an email with the address I send to? I haven't seen one :s

Qbee 09-21-2012 05:49 AM

I'll get the emails and addresses out to everyone as we get closer.

Linda58 09-21-2012 07:46 PM

I am also happy to sash or not sash, whatever the person wants. One-der Bunch sounds good to me!! I haven't decided about sashing mine yet.

SazuBMidlands 10-03-2012 09:33 AM

Since people seem to generally not mind sashing I'll go with the bookcase theme. I have the wood fabric ready!

Qbee 10-03-2012 03:48 PM

So...how is it coming folks? Any new ideas?? :D :D

moonrise 10-03-2012 06:17 PM

Once I decide on my sashing, I'll be ready to sew my blocks together. Just trying to clear a couple of things off my plate first. :)

Does anyone have an example of what should be on the label?

Qbee 10-05-2012 05:36 PM

I have my fabrics picked but haven't even decided on what blocks to do yet...LOL
I have SO MANY projects going at the same time it's not even funny!!
I've got to make some ornaments for the ornament swap and get my Secret Santa taken care of.
I have a couple of quilts that need binding, a couple of Christmas quilts, baby quilts...woooo! I'm tired!

Qbee 10-21-2012 05:24 PM

OK.....a couple of things. 1st I have one person who was suppose to be able to join us and it didn't work the way I thought so she is going to take my place in this group. I honestly was only doing 2 groups since we were short anyway so this works out best for everyone. Her screen name is Lori Peercy. So...here is group #1:

Group 1
Lori Peercy
SazuBMidlands
Moonrise
Babeyruth
Linda58

Now....I will still monitor this group and act as leader even though I won't be doing a row. That just makes it easier.
Lastly....it's time to get addresses. We will mail in the order of the group names so just to make sure everyone has the correct address, please PM the person you will be mailing to in order to get the address they want the rows mailed to. For example, Lori Peercy will need to get Sazu's address and Sazu needs to get Moon's address and so on and so on.
Let me know if you have any questions,
Thanks so much
QBEE :D

Linda58 10-23-2012 08:41 AM

Hi Lori,
Welcome to our group, happy your here!! I will be mailing to you, so I will PM you for your address.

Linda

Lori Peercy 10-23-2012 07:02 PM

Happy to be here! I had a great time on the lasr one I did. The rows were 12 1/2"x 60 1/2" Is that correct for this one? Love the name One der bunch, is that the one everyone decided on? I am the hostess for the secret pal swap each month so I am on the board all the time. What are the themes that everyone has picked out? I really like the idea of sewing the rows together after they get home so you can place the rows where you want them and you can decide if you want sashing or not after you see them all together. I have not come up with a theme yet

SazuBMidlands 10-24-2012 01:13 PM

I'm wanting to sash for my bookcase themed quilt, but not sure about posting all the fabric. I might just post a swatch, and sash on return, to save postage as it goes. What do you think?

I also haven't started sewing yet, but will need to soon. I didn't realise it was so close to the end of October already!

SazuBMidlands 11-04-2012 11:48 AM

I've been looking at my row today. I came to the conclusion that a 60" wide bookcase is VERY wide, and so I've decided to change my theme. I've been working out a new one today, so hopefully I can have it together soon. :-)

Hows everyone else getting on?

babeyruth 11-04-2012 07:17 PM

My rows are ready.

Hi Everyone,
I took a pic of the 2 rows I finished, since I'm in this and another group. I haven't decided which one will go to which group. They are both kind of modern. One has lime-green, white, black and gray colors, the other Orange, lime and white, with a few blues thrown in for the mix. Hope you like the pic.

They both contains black with white polka dots, so that will likely be my sashing when it comes home.

Qbee 11-04-2012 07:31 PM

Those are both BEAUTIFUL babeyruth!!! I love them <3

I really like yours, I hope you send it to our group!!

Have you thought of doing the bookcase smaller, with the wall showing behind?

Lori Peercy 11-21-2012 11:26 PM

I am doing a cat quilt honoring my cat "Kitty" that I had to put to sleep (he had cancer and there was nothing to do for him) I will put the sashing on when it is all done to cut down on the mailing costs and also to custom fit to my bed size which is a extra long.

SazuBMidlands 11-30-2012 09:48 AM

Yay! Nearly time for everyone to post!
I finished my row, and have photos, but have misplaced my camera cable. I'll upload a photo when it reappears. I decided to co with sailing boats on a blue background. I like how it turned out. Hopefully everyone will be able to think of something to add easily.
Also I posted my row today!!! It's now on its way across the pond :-)
Please let me know when it arrives. Typically it takes 7-10th days, but with Christmas post it might take longer.
Is everyone else ready to post?

Mine will be in the mail in the morning. Running a couple of days behind. Sorry about that! :o Taking vacation over Thanksgiving really threw things off.

Here's a (rather lousy) photo of my finished row, with the sashing and cornerstones. I had to take the photo in sections and "glue" the two pictures together, so the middle block looks weird. See page 1 of this thread for a better photo of the blocks. :)

SazuBMidlands - Your row arrived safe and sound yesterday. How cute! I actually made a similar quilt for my dad's Christmas a few years ago, so I have some ideas already in mind. :)

Everybody's being waaaay too quiet! When I was a kid, my mom always said that I was getting into trouble whenever I was being too quiet, and she'd have to come check on me. So ... what kind of trouble are y'all getting into?
:D :p he he

SazuBMidlands 12-12-2012 03:42 PM

Fantastic!! So happy it got there safely :-)
I'm not getting up to trouble! I'm trying to finish up 3 full size quilts for Christmas, and am finding work is really getting in the way!
Hopefully after Christmas people will be a bit more chatty?

moonrise 12-12-2012 08:54 PM

Glad you're not getting into trouble! LOL! Whew ... 3 quilts for Christmas? Pics, please! :) I'm still working on gifts myself. It's hard to believe Christmas is less than two weeks away.

I've got the blocks made for your row! :D Now to iron them, square them up, and sew them together, and then attach them to the row. And hope my measurements are right! (That part scares me! )

I forgot to ask. Are we supposed to post pics, or is it a surprise?

Babeyruth - Did my row arrive okay? The DC# says it was delivered, but I just wanted to make sure. With the post office, one never knows these days. :)

I had to do some minor adjusting on my blocks, but the second time it went together perfectly. Yay! :D I went back and read the first post, and it talks about posting pictures, so here it is! I hope you like it. The blue background is actually more of a navy blue color, and it has subtle stars and metallic gold dots on it. The red fabric has stars as well. I only had a FQ of the red, and it was a smaller-than-usual FQ, but somehow it was JUST big enough. (Whew!) The sailboats are all embroidered/appliqued, and they're all a bit different from each other. I'll post a close-up of one of the blocks, too.

SazuBMidlands 12-13-2012 01:44 PM

Oh wow! Thats fantastic!!! I LOVE it! :D :D And, my, aren't you fast!
I haven't recieved anything yet. Hopefully soon...

The quilts I'm doing are one for my fiancee (we got engaged on the 2nd Dec!!! Still very excited and prone to spontaneous smiling and telling the world - sorry!) which is a Round Robin from a different board, there's one for his sister who lives with us, which is from a layer cake, and one which was another Round Robin for a couple of years ago, which my fiancee ( :D ) paid for to be quilted for me. For both his and mine I have additional things to add as well as the binding. I'll post photos, probably after Christmas though.

Lori Peercy 12-17-2012 08:40 PM

Could everyone please post what the theme they have picked so I can check on what fabric I need. I know one is civial war andknow I will need to buyn fabric for. My theme is cats of any kind. I am really running behind, I was in the hospital for a week with pnemonia and am trying to get strength back.

Whigrose 12-19-2012 10:41 AM

Qbee, please check your pms.

best,
d

SazuBMidlands 12-28-2012 04:53 AM

Everyone is very quiet on here. Is everyone too busy having a fun and festive holiday time?
Has everyone posted their first row? I haven't recieved a row yet and am just wondering what the status is.

Linda58 12-29-2012 06:23 AM

Hi Lori,
My quilt is going to be black & white or white & black print fabric blocks with a bright color added to block. NO Solid Black as I am going to use solid black between the blocks. I would like each blocks bright color to be different, or a different shade of the colors already used. I am going to have bright yellow, blue, green, red, & purple if I remember right. Sorry, I have been traveling and on vacation since November 29th, and won't be home to mail my blocks until the second week of January. They are very simple blocks so it won't take you much time to do them when they arrive to you. Any questions PM me.
