You can make your quilt row any color you want us to match and send back.I am using some fat quarters I bought a long time ago and forgot why I bought them, but I think they will be pretty. So what ever mood your in today, go for it,heck I forgot what colors I signed up for and if I did

sandpat 05-05-2010 04:01 PM

Oh you have to post pics!!! Thats a huge part of the fun and besides, how could I follow along if you didn't post pics???? LOL!!

materialgrl 05-05-2010 04:41 PM

Some one will be posting pictures soon I still am finishing up my siggy blocks and my red wht and blue. My problem is I read to many cool things on here you guys need to stop dangling neat things to do in front of me.lol

Kyiav10 05-05-2010 10:50 PM

Darn missed this one. Maybe it's for the better since I can't really aford it.

But I plan on saving my money from birthday and Christmas this year to hopefull participate soon! WOuld love to do a round robin.

Gramakitten 05-08-2010 02:35 PM

my row is done and ready to send.

materialgrl 05-08-2010 02:41 PM

I have been working on my row to, in between my siggy blocks and red wht. and blue, I keep switching back and forth as I have to many projects going on.

JudyG 05-08-2010 03:02 PM

I know what you mean, between different swaps and charity quilts and wanting to do a wallhanging for my bedroom from Danmar's avatar block, I don't know what to work on next. Glad I have this one done and just have to wait to find out who to mail it to.

materialgrl 05-08-2010 03:11 PM

I had one that had to drop out this morning, but I had one wanting to join, so we are still okay, I think I will wait a few days to send everyone there addresses so we don't get confused as to who to send it to, I am anxious to get going to ,but I don't want to rush anyone

JudyG 05-08-2010 03:14 PM

I didn't mean for you to think I'm rushing. I'm just glad I have my row finished. Will patiently wait til 6/10 to mail. Judy

materialgrl 05-08-2010 03:44 PM

Oh no, not at all I'm already doing mine and I am just about finished I just don't want any one else to be rushed, and get discouraged, I have housework that needs to be done, but as always, sewing wins my attention and some have to do work and housework, and can't ignore it like me

Sandy has asked that we post our pictures of our rows to this thread instead of the one where Kerri & I posted our pictures so that we can keep everything together, so I am posting my picture here. I got a little overexcited about this and couldn't wait to get my blocks done.

Very nice, wow you are quick. I've not started mine yet and it will be another couple weeks as I am working on my siggie blocks (finished 1/2 of them today, my thumb is killing me from signing them all) need to get my May partners block done and at leat 3 or 4 Boomerang blocks done before I can start this one....wow. But only have one more week of school and then its lots of sewing time.
Muriel
I do have a question, I know we are suppose to use our color theme in our 1st row, I'm thinking of doing an Amish color theme with black sashings or background. If the next person in line is adding their row would it be o.k. for me to send the fabric I would like used as the background?
Maybe this isn't the right quilt for it, what do you all think?
Muriel

Would you measure your row, mine is not 60 inches long what did I do

I would like each person to have the choice to match it them self , i hope that isn't a problem, I want everyone to not be under stress during this swap.May next time you could start an amish block swap and sending what you want used would work out

Is your row too short material? If you are using patterns from quilterscache...remember...use a SCANT 1/4" seam...their patterns always seem to make up too small if you don't.

Like Sandpat said, you have to be REALLY careful to make your seams a scant 1/4 inch. I found that out the hard way when I was doing a block with a lot of diagonal seams in it. But now I have a 1/4 inch foot with a guide that works perfectly for the scant seam, so my row did end up at 60.5 inches (including the half inch on each side for the outside seams).

You can stretch a block somewhat after it is put together. Here is a link to a Sharon Schamber video about that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQkF02vpVuw

She also has a video about shrinking a block that came out too large. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6aplw_tVZc

She also has a video called "Binding the Angel" which is a three part video on how to bind a quilt using Elmer's School Glue. I saw this last year, and now use Elmer's glue on all my bindings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PE0Yq9iGlc

For those who don't know who she is, she is a fabulous quilter and has lots of good information out there regarding quilting. It is pretty expensive to belong to her group (which is why I don't belong), but there is lots of free information out there that she has put out.

materialgrl 05-09-2010 07:28 AM

Yes that what I did ,measured my seams and they were a little off, took it a part, and hope I can make it come out right, guess I got to much going on, better slow down and be more careful on my seams, scant means scant.

sandpat 05-10-2010 05:08 AM

If I'm making anything from quilterscache....I just move my needle a notch over. Does your machine have that adjustment? I have the 1/4" foot, but sometimes I don't pay enough attention.

I sure hope your blocks go together the right measurement..At least we figured out the problem.

imjustme 05-10-2010 06:12 AM

Those blocks are very pretty. I haven't started on mine yet. I hope to get them cut this week and then sew them together this weekend.

materialgrl 05-11-2010 09:55 AM

Thanks, the 1st. ones I made had lav. corner stones, but they didn't come out the right size, so started over and decided on green, don't know which I like better but doesn't really matter I'm sure it will be beautiful when its done

janecat 05-11-2010 03:22 PM

I love the picture/example of a quilt made through a row robin that's on Page 2 of this swap. The sashing really sets off the rows.

Do you think that I could request that my rows NOT be sewn to each next row? Then when I got my rows back, I could put sashing between the rows myself.

OR--could I possibly send eleven 2-inch x 60 1/2 inch horizontal sashing strips out with my first row? After I make my first row, I would sew on the first sashing. Then I'd mail it to the next person along with 11 other sashing strips. That person would make the 2nd row, sew it onto my sashing, and then attach the next sashing, etc.

It's actually a little easier to sew a row of blocks onto a horizontal sashing than it is to align the seams of the 10 blocks with the seams of the first 10 blocks.

Is this asking too much? If so, then would it be okay to request that my rows not be attached to each other?

If it's decided that this is all too much trouble, then I'm perfectly fine with the rules as they stand. :-D I just thought I'd ask......

materialgrl 05-11-2010 03:55 PM

Lets see what the others say, maybe just send them not sewn together, just in rows would be the easy way. What are every ones opinion?you would have to clearly mark you rs so we knew

Ripped on Scotch 05-11-2010 06:27 PM

I think it's a good idea. Maybe everyone would want to do the same thing

JudyG 05-11-2010 06:29 PM

I think it's a good idea too. I like the idea of adding sashings.

Thanks Janecat. My sisters and I wanted the sashing between each row reasoning that the rows then wouldn't clash with each other. We included the 2.5-inch sashing with the quilt and whoever made the row also sewed on the sashing. It was very little extra work. I would send the 11 strips with my Row Robin along with the label for all participants to sign. Belles

Gramakitten 05-12-2010 05:37 AM

The idea of sashing was rolling around in my head too. I will include it with my rows too. GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE. If you don't include it we will assume that you don;t want sashing?

materialgrl 05-12-2010 05:44 AM

That sounds good to me if you want sashing put it in your envelope, if not don't, then we will all know Sandy

Gramakitten I see we like the same colors, I will have no problem doing yours. love it. Will you tell me how you are going to put in your signature block, is it 6 1/2 inches wide, trying to figure out how to do mine. I was thinking about putting a strip in to sign and using that as a border? or maybe on the backing?

I have been playing around with labels for my rows and want to know what you think. I'm thinking of enclosing 11 of the attached and asking each person to fill one out and send back with the quilt. I will make the labels part of the outer border, say off numbered row labels on the left and even numbered row labels on the right. Any thoughts? Not sure what else I'll do with the border, will have to wait until I see the finished rows.

Your label is both cute and clever. Identifying the row, block maker, her QB name, block name and month does it all. Using the labels for the outer border is really avant-garde...and clever!

My label is 8". I had planned to add it to the back of the quilt. Can;t wait to see everyones. I'm ready. One more BOM and I am caught up. I signed up to do the santa's and that is all. Just doll quilts. They get into your blood. lol. Kathi

ARGH!! I've been busy LOL. I'll put my block pic here, then when my row is done, I'll post it :) Everyone else's rows/blocks look lovely, this is going to be so much FUN!! I need to get a label made too... :)

AkAngel 05-16-2010 12:25 AM

your fabrics are very pretty. I've not had a chance to start mine yet, I'm trying to catch up on siggie blocks and Boomerang exchange blocks first, might be the 1st of the month.

I have the list just about ready as to who you will be sending the blocks to,I was trying to make sure everyone was still in, I can't wait to start swapping
