SD if you know who your SS is how is it a secret??

Boston1954 10-11-2009 08:40 PM

You know who you are sending a package to, but you do not know who is sending one to you.

but shadow just wrote she PM the people who they will be SS to and who their SS is

Shadow Dancer 10-11-2009 08:46 PM

The only person who knows who your Secret Santa is....is ME! :)

You are only given the info of the person you are sending to. You do not know who is sending to you. :)

I wrote in the PM that members from UK were given the info of who they are Secret Santa to. I sent their info to the person who will be their Secret Santa, but they do not know who is sending to them.

S.D.

Boston1954 10-11-2009 08:47 PM

You are right. That would not be very secret. I do not want to know who mine is. I want it to be a surprise.

sharon b 10-11-2009 08:52 PM

Trupeach I think Shadow meant she sent the info to the people who would be shipping TO the people in the UK. And to the people in the UK so they could ship their packages OUT in case of the strike.

Shadow Dancer 10-11-2009 08:54 PM

Thank you Sharon. I apologize for any confusion, I have clarified this in my previous post. :)

S.D.

trupeach 10-11-2009 08:55 PM

Shadow Dancer 10-11-2009 08:57 PM

LOL I spend the majority of my life confused...at least that way no one expects very much from me! lol At least that way, I can spend all my time making quilts!!! :)

sharon b 10-11-2009 09:05 PM

sandpat 10-12-2009 06:08 AM

Grrr.....not getting notices for this thread and I missed quite a few pages! Wooohooo...we DID make it over 100...see...I knew we would!

Shadow...I agree with you about the PO in the UK....they just can't strike..why we have the SS, the IRR.....lots of great things going on. I guess we'll just have to head on over the pond to straighten this whole mess out.

k3n 10-12-2009 06:55 AM

Just had an email from a UK supplier I ordered from - the national UK postal strike is not yet definite and there will be 7 days notice given if it does happen. There IS some local action that affects some areas. :D

I agree, PM me your address. It might not be a secret, but you can open something from santa with the rest of us :)

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 10-12-2009 09:40 AM

Wait a second, it's basically only a secret till you get the package, right?
I mean, some of us have used part of or all of our full names on here, so one might be able to figure it out just by the return address. Plus, I'm pretty sure I'm the only person from Montreal around here. It kind of narrows it down a bit...
Well, the gift will still be a surprise.

k3n 10-12-2009 09:47 AM

SD - I'm sorry to be thick but just to be clear - do we put a note in the package as to who it's from or not?

Although like Mel, the French postmark will be a giveaway for me!

I was also curious about this, but have decided to tackle mine in this manner: I will wrap the SS gift in lovely christmas paper, then put it in another box for mailing. The return address will NOT have a name, just the address. Or, I may just use my zip+4 code as the "return" since I am in US. That way, if the post office must return to me for any reason, they have a way of getting it back to me, but the recipient will not know until opening the package on whatever date it is we determined (can't recall right now) for the live chat.

HTH,

Odessa

Mousie 10-12-2009 10:06 AM

well, at the risk of being redundant...I too am only going to use my address but not my name ON THE OUTSIDE.

My name and my board name, will be on the INSIDE. Inside Christmasy paper and such. So, don't throw away all bits of paper, etc. till you look at it, if you want your curiosity satisfied

Maybe I'll send white beach sand and oranges. That's what most ppl think Florida is all about, lol.
Terri can send little pebbles and tiny geckos.
Patti can send a skunk, lol...
Barnbum, (Karla)...could send 'me' a mini...horse...not leaving that to chance!
Gai is in Texas...she could send an armadillo
Amma could send apples.
Cutebuns could send snow, lol
and Ducky...poor Ducky...she could send tail feathers
(j/j my sweet Duck-Duck!)

Mousie, leave Ducky's tail feathers alone, she has only just got them all stuck on with a glue gun - fortunately, the glue is now waterproof, so she no longer has to keep her tail out of water, and can paddle around swimmingly.

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 10-12-2009 11:19 AM

you know, I thought of just putting my address, no name for return address, but I don't remember how the customs forms work, do they actually have a name on them? It's not really a problem if it stays in the country, but if it goes out of the country I can't remember if we have to put a name on the customs form...
I guess it's a moot point, since I'm still the only person in Montreal, lol. Oh well, the best surprise is the gift inside, right. I guess I could try and not look at where the package originated from.

sharon b 10-12-2009 11:29 AM

When I send mine out I use another address and the name is Secret Santa, so that when it is received they don't open it

jbsstrawberry 10-12-2009 11:47 AM

OH oH OH OHoh oh memememememeeeee I wanna play!!! SS was sooo much fun!! Can't wait to do it again this year!!!! Thanks for putting it together again for us Shadow!!!!!!

Shadow Dancer 10-12-2009 11:55 AM

For all who are wondering: Yes, you put in a note or a card with your name AND your username on the board so your person knows who their secret santa was. :)

I use Secret Santa as my name on the return address, also. In thinking about it now, why couldn't we use the recipients address as the return, post marks always run or are only partially printed.

I don't know, got to think on this some more, I guess. It's been so much fun and now that we have so many folks from so many of the same areas I don't think it will be as easy as it was the first year to figure out who the SS is...maybe?

Hugs to y'all!

sandpat 10-12-2009 02:16 PM

Boy QnC....makes me wonder what you think of when you think of me...now I know...SKUNKS! Thats sooommme compliment I'll tell ya' Now I'm not even gonna say what I think of when I think little mousie....maybe Karla will send you a mini...road apple....oh..I have some of those..I might just send ya' one, along with that skunk

And do leave poor Ducky out of this with her tail feathers that can now be under water...I really really like her face better than the "southern" end of her!

Never mind about putting name on the customs form.
You have to list everything inside the package. So much for surprises! I always try to rip the customs sticker off gifts that come from my American family without looking. Really.

What a great idea, sharon! thank you!
I will have to ask at the post office about the name, if I do get somebody outside U.S., but I agree, even if somebody knows who their Santa is...they still don't have a clue, what's inside!
There are so many things it could be...sand, oranges, pebbles, skunk...

This is a great idea, too. the whole idea is, if there is a problem with the postal service, that they have an address to deliver to.
So, their machine reads return address, and it is still the recipient.
I am putting tracking on my package :!:

Actually, Patti, I did think of chickens and horses, when I thought of you....but gotta love that skunk story!

You mean, there will be a list attached to the outside of the package, when it arrives? for real?
well, I am gonna have to come up with a 'fake' list then! :?
FAKE LIST: fabrics, goodies, notions
REAL CONTENTS: sand, pebbles, 1 skunk, horse apples, lol!!!

tlrnhi 10-12-2009 06:17 PM

When I send out gifties that I don't want the person to know right away who it came from, I use their addy for return address.
A bit hard for me to do here on Guam since I have to fill out the Customs Form, but what the heck.......

If you are really wanting to confuse your person, you can send the package to someone else (with the money for postage of course) and have them send it out again from their location.

trupeach 10-12-2009 06:21 PM

I have made up addy's for a return address but terri you are a sneaky one I like your way better

tlrnhi 10-12-2009 06:26 PM

Most of the time, you can ask for a "hand stamp" on the package. If you have a GOOD postmaster, you can ask them to smudge the ink a bit so you really can't read the writing.
