Speaking of the reveal date.....has anything been agreed???

And Hey Terri.....where ya been???? We've missed you in the hole lately. Everything OK???

sunrise450 11-05-2014 01:25 PM

My Santa package is on the way to my santee. Hope she likes all that I sent her. I haven't seen her on the board so I don't know if she posts photos or not. So I took photos, with box packed and unpacked.
Now I need to join all in the hole for a much needed rest! Move over, and cabana boy, get me a cool one. I'm bringing peanut butter cookies and home made fudge. Yum! yum! I guess the "cool one" will have to be milk to go with the cookies. Oh Well, can't win them all!

blondeslave 11-05-2014 02:21 PM

Ooh, do you hear that? My box is singing the sweetest little song, "Open me, open me don't make me shout, there might be a live animal that needs letting out." Oh dear-what shall I do?.....

Don't worry! If it's a snake, it'll be fine. :D

How about a seperate thread now for all those from Pittsburgh who want to reminisce? I've just waded through several pages of stuff I have no clue about. Isn't this still the Secret Santa topic? Seems to have gone off on a tangent.

Or maybe I'll just check back in a few weeks to see if it's opening day yet.

No , no I fear it's something with fur like a puppy or a hamster or a kitty...why else would the box be insisting I open it?

Jamimclaugh 11-05-2014 04:23 PM

Ok I received a box today and I am assuming it's from my ss, maybe I will have to poke at it a bit...

Good point! It could be a sweet, little mouse.

I'm enjoying the Pittsburgh banter, even though I was born and raised in New Orleans. :)

Neesie, have you got a bit of Acadian in your roots?

We were just having a bit of banter fun - Sorry that it was annoying to others.:(

Unfortunately, no. My parents were from WV and GA.

Though we might have been long lost cousins twice or three times removed. (I've never really understood the meaning of the word removed in this context)

Just speaking for myself, I joined the Secret Santa exchange, in order to get to know my fellow quilters. I love reading about what makes my Secret Santa person, the person she is. I love reading the happy comments between my quilting friends, even if I've no idea what the heck they're talking about. :D

We could still be long lost cousins! I used to know a handful of Cajuns, if that helps any. I just don't think there's any French, in my own ancestry. :(

So sorry I didn't mean to offend anybody by talking about pittsburgh. I promise to remain on the secret Santa topic from now on.

I too have been enjoying the banter, My DH was in the Navy so we lived on two coasts and one foreign country and I fondly remember all the strange names for the same dish. Any one want a Cabinet with a Grinder? Where I live now its Pop also.

Dedemac 11-05-2014 05:39 PM

Putting the finishing touches on my package It will be in the mail next week.

Oh, I DO know what a Grinder is!!! I buy those at WalMart, for turkey sandwiches. What's a Cabinet, though?

I make no such promise. Just sayin'. :D

I am with Nessie.....I have read this thread each evening and have had many chuckles with all the topics! Prayers of hope for all that are going through "rough" times.

TOOMANYUFO'S 11-05-2014 07:34 PM

I don't post much on this swap. We have a long time to wait for opening day. You can only give so many clues, etc to do with the swap. People get upset if you don't post, others get upset by lots of posts and topics. It makes me scared to post anything. What's the difference between talking about an imaginary hole that hasn't really got anything to do with a Christmas swap and wasting reading time or talking about various other topics that exist. In my area older people say pop, the younger generation say soda and others say soda pop. We also say dress your feet, get a wiggle on, right out straight, ayuh and a whole lot of other things. We eat Finnhaddy, corned hake and cheesy dry fish.

Bullock2us 11-05-2014 08:21 PM

I enjoy learning about things where other people live. I think it is pretty interesting. We don't have any such stuff like that here. We live in a small town where not much goes on but growing potatoes, beets and corn. With a lot of rednecks-which I consider my family a mild version of them. Definitely not like the ones on tv, but my 9 yr. old would live in camo if I let him. We call it pop here. And we love our fry sauce which last time I was back East they did not have. Times may have changed in the last few years though. So interesting how everywhere is so different.

mhcpa 11-05-2014 08:29 PM

We call it COKE. I am from Georgia ya know! I think I have finished gathering up my SS gifts to get ready to mail. Plan to wrap them and package tomorrow evening. Still need to finish making something. I have not received my package but that is ok too. Enjoy reading about everyone. I have been under the weather too. Multitasking as usual. Got to get this out Friday because of a colonoscopy on Monday. Had allergy testing today. Football Friday nights. Fall Festivals. Fairs. You name it it is going on. But the package is definitely coming together. Thank the Lord for lots of time, I did a senior quilt too, and working on some Christmas wall quilts for my Mom;'s antique store, got to be ready for Nov 13th. This has been fun. Prayers to all of those experiencing illness. Cant wait until opening day!

Sounds like a pretty good place to me - and i think some things have changed cuz we are all getting scattered around but dragging our happy places along with us. I love Texas....been here about 1/3 of my life - but i'd give quite a lot to be able to spend Friday nights having a beer with old friends at Sunny Jim's back "home".

happynana 11-05-2014 09:22 PM

Before we quit Burghese let me give you some translations :)
Jumbo-bologna
halumpki-stuffed cabbage
primanti bros sandwich-meat coleslaw and FFries all together
red up the room-straighten up

Get a wiggle on means You've got to get going-hurry up. We've got to get a wiggle on or we will be late.

Posting to say I sent my SS parcel off today and all I will say is that it has a long way to go.

Cindy60545 11-06-2014 04:01 AM

boy, all this burgh chatter makes me kinda homesick for Seattle, where I grew up. Ivar's fish & chips...yummmmy! The haibut steaks on the grill, & HUGE crabs! My mouths awatering! And I grew up in Snnosetown. The Nordik neightborhood. All those bakery items....lefska, cookies. Oh my! Gonna have to ask for a care package from my brother who still lives up there.

Ok gang. The packages are flying to their destinations now or soon will be. It's time for the discussion on opening day & time. Last year we did Dec. 8th, I believe at 3 p.m. eastern time. That would make it Dec. 7th this year. Same time? Any other ideas? Discussion is now open for this, so please sound off as to preferences.

Neesie, I love NO!

I spent a lot of time in the French Quarter in my past life before moving to Arizona.

I took a tour to Oak Alley and had one of their Mint Juleps. It was amazing. Couldn't find it anywhere else so every year I took the same tour and just stayed on the back porch (do they call them porches in NO) and drank mint juleps while the tour was going on.

Eventually I had to google it and learned to make them myself.

I miss the French Quarter.

pyffer3 11-06-2014 07:19 AM

Oh I forgot to mention the other day......I send my package off. She should have it by now! It rattles when shaken. Sorry, some packages got wrapped, others just kind of stuffed in there! My husband ask me what all I sent and I told him some of the things, but then I couldn't remember everything! I had it ready to go too long and forgot what all I sent! HAHA. Hope whoever gets it enjoys all the goodies!

sunrise450 11-06-2014 07:21 AM

Dec. 7th sounds good to me. Teri, what do you think? Is this what you had in mind? I got my SS package mailed off, now I am anxious to get mine!

I have one more obligation then on to Christmas for my family. I joined the Jacob's Ladder swap and really getting excited about that. It isn't due till Jan. 30th, 2015 so there is no pressure. I think the best part of this swap is that I have all the fabric except one in my stash.

PenniF 11-06-2014 08:57 AM

Dec 7th works for me.

I've only been to NOLA once....spent much of the afternoon on/around Bourbon Street - and more than a little time at Pat O'Brien's drinking Hurricanes...YUM !!!!.....ok....only had 2 but had to stop cuz i couldn't feel my nose any more !!! Last time i was in San Antonio they'd opened an O'Brien's just off the River Walk.

Yes, they're called 'porches' in NO. They're also called 'verandas' and 'stoops' . . . so just about anything goes. :D NO is a bit of a melting pot, so the vernacular varies, according to the neighborhood. Back when I was growing up there (I'm now 61, so that was a good while ago), we just went with the flow. :)

Neesie 11-06-2014 09:24 AM

Question for my Secret Santa-ee

How do you feel about receiving home-baked goodies? What I have in mind, would be baked the day before mailing, then sealed in Zip-Loc freezer bags . . . and has been known to stay 'fresh' for months.
