Sign up time for the Quilting Board's 27th Doll Quilt Swap.

All levels of quilters are welcome to play with us. We're just here to have fun. It's a great chance to practice a new technique, use up your scraps and/or stash, buy some new fabric, and make new quilty friends. Here are the details:

Doll Quilt Swap #27 -- September 2011
We have a theme this month! Themes are always optional. I want you to have fun, so if you have something else in mind, go for it. But...if you want a theme, we have a fun one: it's Black and White with a Pop of Color.

DOLL QUILT SWAP GUIDELINES

SIZE: from 12”x12” to 24”x24”…any size or shape in between. If your finished quilt measures 24" x 26", or 11" x 13" it's fine. No worries or excessive rules for this swap.

MATERIALS: natural fibers/cotton, wool, linen.

EMBELLISHMENTS: if you want to use them, feel free…beads, rickrack, buttons, doilies, ribbon, lace…anything or nothing at all.

CONSTRUCTION: Pieced, appliquéd, wholecloth; quilted by hand or machine; and bound.

LABEL: It is recommended that you attach a label to the back of your quilt. A label is a nice addition to any handmade quilt. You can even sign the back of your quilt with your name and date. Whether or not you decide to label your quilt, please do include a note with your quilt with your Quilting Board name so that your partner can thank you.

MANNERS: Please remember to thank your partner. Just a simple post is great. It also lets me know you've received a quilt so I can mark my records and make sure everyone receives a quilt. If you are unable to post a picture, please ask your partner to do so. Much of the fun is seeing everyone's creations.

PARTNERS: You will be paired with a partner for this swap. You will make a quilt for your partner and your partner will make a quilt for you.

DUE DATE: The deadline for all quilts to be sent is September 30, 2011. If this deadline seems tight for you, or you have a busy month, consider making a quilt for the next swap and having it ready to go. You'll get two months to create and less pressure.

COMMUNICATION: If for any reason you cannot meet the deadline or you need to drop out of this swap, please let me know as soon as you know. If you communicate any setbacks with me I can make sure things work out favorably for you and your partner, no hard feelings.

SIGN UP: Sign up begins today and ends August 31, 2011. I’ll assign partners after that date. The group activity thread can be found here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/group_a...sp?gracnum=196

If you would like to sign up, you can respond to this thread or PM me. Please let me know if you are willing to send internationally as we have a few swappers outside of the US.

I was thinking of doing this swap. I looked a previous ones done. It looks like not all are geared to children? And also saw where some people sent extra little gifts, is that the norm? Thanks.....Donna

Ms Grace 08-22-2011 04:56 AM

Chele,

The black and white theme sounds fun!
I already have some ideas in my head. 8-)

I will need to buy more black fabric though.

I've always wished I had called this the "Miniature" quilt swap. Dolls scare me. ;) The quilts we swap are just small in size. Not necessarily geared to children or dolls, unless you want them to be. The extra gifts are optional and never expected. One thing for certain is that we have tons of fun making these mini quilts. The creativity is amazing.

dyer804 08-22-2011 08:55 AM

Just one "pop" color or several like the example? Maybe either? I'm probably over thinking this!

One pop or multiple pops of color with black and white. You know I run a loose ship! ;)

Or, you can do your own thing like purple poodles riding chocolate donuts with sprinkles.

I'm going with one pop.
I think I know what I'll be making. I'm stepping out of my comfort zone this month and making something a little more "modern" .......

Krystyna 08-22-2011 12:49 PM

YAY!!! Black and White! Now I have an excuse to go buy fabric. :-P

I went to town today and the car swerved right in front of the LQS and wham I was parked right in front. Well I had no recourse but to go in. I found some black and white fabric, a chunk of white and a little bit of pop color--now is that lemon-lime, orange soda, raspberry fizz, Nehi grape ....? no damage was done to the car or anyone else while my car took control and had a mind of it's own    Guess my car also was out its comfort zone, Jean

Chele 08-22-2011 01:29 PM

I'm glad nothing was harmed during the planning of your quilt! Your pocketbook might be a little scarred, but it will get over it!

shelburn 08-22-2011 02:09 PM

Wouldn't it be neat to have a thread where we can post pictures of how/where we have displayed/used the doll quilts we have received in the swaps?

This will be my 4th swop....and I really love it...everyone I have been paired with, Monique, Darla and Roda have been really great people and it has been great chatting with each...we are all from really diverse backgrounds...it is so much fun.
I was in a really heavy meeting at work today and all I could think of was black and white fabric.....what am I going to do with that to make it original...by the end of the meeting I had so many ideas of what I could make....good job nobody wanted me to really contribute to the meeting....or did they ??????

Little RoO 08-23-2011 02:58 PM

Please...Please Can I ask a huge favour...can everyone try and take photos of their quilts and post them...I love seeing all the pictures....but like so many I haven't taken pictures of my lovely quilts for July or August (sorry Darla and Roda) but I will readdress it in the morning and show everyone, please look under July and August swops....seeing what everyone else has got from their partners is part of the fun and it gives me so many new ideas. I know I can't talk..not posting mine...but I'm going to try and become a reformed character !
