Why we would have loved to see the Belugas though! Must be some amazing aquarium! Hope you had a great trip!

Near Tofino (on the far side of the island) some lucky folks fishing saw a baby humpack and it breached right by their boat. I think he was just getting a good long look at the odd creatures above the water. It was on the Seattle news and I found a link on the internet. The folks in the boat were filming and caught the whole event. If you love whales you have to take a look at this! An experience of a lifetime!

I will be sending my quilt out next monday(holiday?) or tuesday. this was so fun making these amish quilts

Krystyna 08-29-2012 09:50 AM

Off Topic Alert - Patriotic Quilt progress: I have the strips sewn together and am now stitching down the sashing. Hope to finish by tonight. I have to say that just looking at everyone's blocks and their locations got me a little teary eyed. What incredible kindness you showed by sharing your talents. Pix soon ...

BuzzinBumble 08-29-2012 01:09 PM

Hey Krystyna! Well your little Amish doll quilt arrived today! No sooner had I opened it, than discord erupted. Everybody wanted to be the one to use it at night when I’m asleep.

Raggedy Ann picked it up first and was gazing at it lovingly, when I noticed the others furtively circling. I wasn’t too worried about the Cabbage Patch Kid,she is not a gal known for swift action. But while I had my eye on Baby Beans (there is no way I am letting her use it and I think you know why) Barbie delivered a sharp kick to Ann’s shin… and let me tell you those pink plastic kitten heels must pack quite a wallop because Ann dropped your pretty quilt and Barbie snatched it up! She leapt into her glamour car and tried to make a quick getaway. Unfortunately, Ken gave her a little wave and wink as he sauntered by in his Dreamboat outfit and Barbie was so distracted that she smashed the pink corvette into the wall of her Barbie dream house. GI Joe was first on the scene, and hero that he is, had Barbie out of the car and dusted off in no time, much to Ken’s chagrin. Chatty Cathy saw the whole thing and no one could shut her up. Then the Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em robots got so wound up they started punching anyone who got too close and the Liddle Kiddles all fell into fits of laughter. While everyone was still in an uproar, Raggedy Andy handed the quilt back to Ann.

Now that that is settled, I need to find my camera and let you all see what a gorgeous quilt Krystyna made for me. And she sent a lovely sachet and an exciting book on small quilts too!
Thank you Krystyna from the bottom of my heart– you are wonderful partner and I am a lucky duck to have had you! Wait until you all see the quilting she did on this beauty! I promise to post the pictures soon.

Krystyna 08-29-2012 01:17 PM

Hahahaha! :D:D:D

You absolutely should use that for a chapter on doll quilts! Too funny! Would love to see it illustrated!

And I'm blaming any funkiness with the binding on that tussle -- that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Lynnie25 08-29-2012 01:24 PM

BuzzingBumble, what a hoot! You have amazing talents - quilting and storytelling and like Krystyna would love to see it illustrated too. Now can't wait to see the quilt that they were all fighting over, it must be a beauty

buslady 08-29-2012 02:59 PM

Where does all the imagination come from???? Quilting AND storytelling! I love this place, it makes me smile no matter how tough my daay has been.

Dragonfly Nana 08-29-2012 03:08 PM

Wonderful writing BuzzingBumble! so funny I had to read it twice!

Lynnie25 - Hope the weather calms some so the postie can deliver your squishy!

Jillnjo, lovely hand quilting. IrelandDragon, I love your display wall!

And now ... since she has already seen it, here is the little Amish I sent to Lara.

bjolly 08-30-2012 04:03 AM

What a gift of writing! Enjoyed your story so much! I could just see those pink Barbie heels.

jillnjo 08-30-2012 04:48 AM

K.-Gorgeous little quilt! love your colors, and tiny blocks.

Buzz-very good tale you spun!! Tell us more about your doll room and what goes on in there!

Dragon- I love the log cabin on your wall! And the scrappy beside it...... all of them are special.

I do love to hand quilt. I seldom choose it, though, as it is time comsuming. I am too caught up in the spirit of hurrying up and getting to the next idea! I told myself to slow down and put a quilt in my nice frame for the winter months.

jillnjo 08-30-2012 04:59 AM

I should tell you about my doll quilts! They are all over my house, laying and hanging and rolled up and......! Anyway, we had July 4th company and a cousin of mine said,"What are all these little "things" I see all around your home?" She is a wonderful seamstress, but not into quilting at all and I figure she was wondering about me!!:p

CrazyQuiltinRobin- I must tell you that MY crazy quilt from you lays on the front table where guests come in the door and it has been admired many times!! With real admiration, I tell you.

I am more fond of all my swapped quilts than ever. I recently put them all together and admired them again. It seems like I miss seeing all the details on each one when I first get them and something new pops out at me all over again..

Well, today brought my quilt from IrelandDragonQuilting! It is wonderful-I love the pattern and the bright pop in the colors. Thanks, W.! It will add a lot to my collection.

Still haven't received myamish quilt from my partner. Ups guy delivered a package to neighbors house, and it looked small enough for a quilt! Wondering what's happened. :(

jillnjo 08-30-2012 08:41 AM

Did your partner send UPS? I always send and receive in regular mail.

Liz22 08-30-2012 10:44 AM

jillnjo~~ IDK, but i guess i will have to be patient, it will come.

Okay everybody - As promised here are some pictures of the wonderful little Amish quilt that Krystyna made for me. I will be hanging it on the wall by my sewing machine for reason to look up and be inspired. I took a couple of close ups to add to the photo you provided Krystyna. The embroidered quilting motifs are just beautiful and so complex! I love the way the colors work so well together too.

Fictional tussles aside, I think your binding is just fine... better than I can do! I have yet to be able to do an attached binding well. I usually (gasp!) turn the backing over the edge, machine stitch it onto the front and use that for the binding. Probably going to be getting pulled over by the quilt police someday soon.

Last night I looked through the Small Quilts book you sent and found at least three that I am now dying to do! Somebody here is going to be getting one someday :)
Thank you so much Krystyna - it was fun being your partner!

buslady 08-30-2012 11:39 AM

B E A U T I F U L ! I just love every one of them!!

BuzzinBumble 08-30-2012 11:44 AM

Jillnjo - i cannot get over the perfection of your hand quilting! You must have the patience of a saint! I like how you put it: "I do love to hand quilt. I seldom choose it, though, as it is time consuming. I am too caught up in the spirit of hurrying up and getting to the next idea!"
I bet we all can relate to that!

Ireland Dragon - what a great display! You have your own Mini Quilt Museum starting there! Which two did you make? How tiny must those little pieces on the beautiful log cabin be? I love the beautiful star quilt you made for jillnjo!

I'm glad you all liked the story and thought it was funny. I don't really have a doll room jillnjo - it springs from when I was a kid. My sister and I were convinced our toys had lives of their own at night when we were sleeping and we made up stories about what they did.

Lara, I'm so glad you liked it. Looking at the closeups, I can see all my "misses" with stitch in the ditch! Arghhhhh!
The quilt was a lot of fun to do ~ I used some of the blocks from the Farmer's Wife Sampler ~ and the Contrary Wife was especially appropos!

BuzzinBumble 08-30-2012 12:13 PM

Whoops sorry Krystyna - I didn't even notice them... too busy looking at how beautiful everything was! If it makes you feel better you can post close ups of all the stitch in a ditch misses I made on the DQ I made for you too! (Of which I know there were plenty!) :o I've always thought they should call that technique "drunk in the ditch"!

Received my awesome quilt today from Robin...Thank you so much....even though the picture was taken outside, it doesn't show how pretty and vibrant the true colors are...LOVE IT!!

Krystyna 08-30-2012 02:24 PM

Lara, that's my blurred eye stitch. No more black on black for me at least for a while!

Robin, what a fabulous quilt! I love, love, love your color selection and layout! Lucky Brenda!

Back to work. We got a delivery of vintage books today ... about 2,000 of them ... long story ... but they are from an estate that was sealed up since 1957 and opened in 2001. I purchased a ton of stuff then and the sellers just contacted me to say there was more! YAY! But they need to be cataloged and de-stinked by packing them in plastic bags with kitty litter. I'm going to be feeling it tonight! :(

BuzzinBumble 08-30-2012 03:32 PM

Nancy in Louisiana, how have you been holding up through that awful storm? Hope we see you posting here soon and you are doing okay!

Krystyna - how in the world do you put all those books in kitty litter? Must be a zoo sized litter pan!

Judith1005 08-30-2012 03:39 PM

Krystyna, I love your little sampler quilt. Such beautiful color.
BuzzinBumble, that is just too funny! I was rooting for Annie all along. LOL
IrelandDargon, I love your bright stars. Really really pretty.

Judith1005 08-30-2012 03:40 PM

Robin, I love your colorful baskets. Beautiful piecing!! And the tiny blocks in the corners are really cute.

jillnjo 08-30-2012 05:39 PM

BuzzinBumble-enough litter for the whole zoo or just one elephant? I had wondered the same. Are any of these books about quilting? What do you do with these books?

Crazy Quiltin Robin 08-30-2012 08:21 PM

Thanks for your encouraging comments ladies .... I have vowed to work with black till I get it right .......lol....
it is so unforgiving ..... so fall colors for next month ......yesssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

Liz22 08-30-2012 08:27 PM

Thank you krystyna! I will be patient . Crocheting dishcloths helps with the frustration , anger sometimes about things!

Hahaha! No kitty litter box! Grocery bags. They're layered and the litter sprinkled in the layers. I sure hope it works. Only four more cases to go!
Sorry, but they are not quilting books but Catholic children's books with the most gorgeous illustrations -- from 1905 to 1947. Some pop up Christmas books, too!

rwquilts 08-31-2012 04:09 AM

More pretty Amish creations! I'm really enjoying seeing all the eye candy here, and visualizing Krystyna packing kitty litter in grocery bags...hope it works!!! :)
