Sign up deadline August 21st for " Not your mamma's hot pad" swap.
Sign up for August 2013 “Not your momma’s hot pad” Swap You will make one hot pad to be swapped with one partner. The shape of your hot pad may vary, however the minimum overall size should be 7” x 9”. Have fun creating something unusual. Think outside the box. The theme should be universal and not a holiday theme. Think of all things “Hot” . You will not be able to sign up if you have any outstanding swaps unfulfilled. Please keep in touch with me as required as well as your partners. Please let me know right away if something happens that will interfere with your ability to complete your project on time. Swappers should treat each other as friends and focus on the fun. So … please be prepared to be flexible, patient and understanding if necessary and appropriate. Partner Assignment: Partners will be assigned on Aug 23rd. Mailing Deadline: You must have your quilt in the mail no later than September 7th. Sent my PM! now if everyone would consider using insulated batting not regular cotton batting that would be wonderful. regular batting can burn you if you try to use that for your potholders and also wont protect your tables from those marvelous white marks that a hot item can leave. just a thought....

well swappers jump on in! this is fun! ab feel free to post a little note in my tablerunner swap that you have a new swap going and all are welcome :) I am thinking my mom used those wicker like things in the center of the table and she also had this trivet she used that was what I thought was a resin owl but now I am thinking maybe it wasn't resin or it wouldn't hold a hot dish without melting right? oh it was truly beautiful LOL burnt orange, olive green, mustard gold all to match that stove, fridge and oven! egad. so ok it wont be either of those things which leaves me open to making something that might be actually trend friendly. I don't enjoy making modern style things very much they throw me for a loop.. so is it ok to make a modern color but traditional style one? hum.. now its a thinking thing.

I'm working on a few hot pads for birthday gifts, i'll post some pictures later.
Where is everyone! maybe the word hot pad threw them? mug rugs are all the rage why not hot pads? I made a starter piece the other day but the points in the center two got lost which irked me terrifically. They were all done with a 60 degree template so the hexagon shape was great! the pieces were great! the colors definitely not my mommas type at all. We had German style things all over our house. Non of that well cant say the word my mom used (cr..) all the time when she thought things were inferior. But now I am back to square one. I will not be making an olive owl or a bunch of people dancing in the black forest.. I promise.. but.. that leaves a whole lot of options in the making :)
ab why not advertise in my other swap surely some might jump over here
I'm wanting to join but am still getting caught up... will post in my Batik Swap and see if anyone needs a new project :)
I am thinking about joining, just need to look at what all my commitments are right now with their deadlines. I will know better after the weekend.
oh oh oh we would love to have you! (she is really good)
ok thinking HOT hot chocolate hot coffee hot tamale hot peppers hot dog hot babe! hot chipendales man hot rod! hot commodity! hot... keep it up girls this is idea central hot tamale |
Alright, I have stepped back from swapping lately, but I have a design in mind & just have to join-in. Can't wait. My 11 year-old daughter is in disbelief at my plans. :)
Confused which is not unusual but here is my question anyway. Are you saying it has to be hot idea related? love to join but coming up blank with ideas for hot related
My grand idea is more of the theme of "not your mama's hot pad"... it is not necessarily "hot"-related, although I think the hot idea could be another interpretation. We'll see what our hostess says.
if you read her sign up it says THINK HOT near the end of the posting.. so I was suggesting HOT ideas :) I am sure you can make anything that is not your mommas hot pad but I was going with her think hot. My mind went a bit wild on how many hot things you could come up with. Like I said earlier my mom had German style things and also this 60 or 70's owl thing it wasn't glass maybe resin but it was a hot trivet she put on the table in all its olive green, burnt orange and mustard gold glory. it was sooo stylish back in the day. I laugh now. That stuff is a HOT commodity as its vintage and there are those who love it.
Okay...I'm in! Not too hard to think hot here in Florida...where the rains disappeared for the last few days and it is feeling really hot!
Just think different and unexpected. Hot was a description to get you started if you couldn't think of something.

I just PMd abdconsultant to join. Whoever gets mine better like bright colors!
I was doing applique work on my HOT hot pad. I think its going to come out pretty cute so I cant wait to finish it and wait for my swap partner! Today should finish the applique part then the quilting part and binding I think its about 12 x 12 big enough for a pie dish or such to go on it or to put a little splash of color on your kitchen wall. It makes me smile making it hope it will make you smile when you receive it :)
Mine will have applique work, too. I have my pattern. Looking for the perfect fabrics & the time...
Mine is done, just need to sew the binding on which I am off to do. Then will be ready to mail when I get a name. Tried a new "thing" hope my partner likes it.
I just need to quilt and bind! I had fun making the top, its more a pun intended than a wild design but I hope that my partner can get a smile out of it. I made it out of some fairly neutral colors, beige, brown, rust, polka dots :) and what else can I say but it came out.. very DEER to me. clues always little clues.. what shall it be? I first started with DEER to my Heart but well this one is much more modern than that! I will be ready to mail on time no problem.
I have my GD this week end, needless to say I'm whipped. I will post pics today.
I hope your playing too AB! I don't think I have the energy to have a little one all weekend long anymore. I am only 51 and think some of you ladies can run circles around me with your exuberance and energy! I sew for two hours and I am pooped out. You amaze me! I watch Jaba whip up a quilt top in a couple days tada its done then quilt it and I think that is a six month project for me! I prefer table runners and hot pads :) more my speed. Still take days to complete however.
Brat, I know how you feel. I'm 64 and even though I think I can I get myself into a project and have to sit down and rest, bad back doesn't help. But sewing is a nice stress reliever...fun and good friends.
