Sign Up July 2013 47th Doll Quilt Swap - Self Portrait and/or Where I Live
Doll Quilt Swap #47 – July 2013
Theme: Self Portrait and/or Where I Live. And that’s all I’m going to say except … don’t be boring. Everyone is welcome to join us no matter what your skill level may be. Making and sharing doll quilts offers a wonderful opportunity to try new techniques, use up scraps in your stash – or an excuse to buy new fabric – and it’s a great way to make new quilty friends. Here are the details. I know they are long and boring, but please read them. Really! As always, rules for this swap also agree with the general guidelines for all Quilt Board Swaps – Read here http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...-a-t20154.html You know the drill … SIGN UP: Easy As 1-2-3 - 4 1. To join the fun, just send me a PM no later than NOON (EST) on June 30, 2013 2. You will not be able to sign up if you have any outstanding quilts from previous months – except for the current month. 3. Please let me know whether you are able to swap internationally as we have a few members who are outside the USA. 4. Let me know you have read the guidelines and make sure your QB mailbox isn’t full. Partner Assignment: Partners will be assigned on May 1st. Bookmark this thread for partner assignment – or find your partner at our Group Home here http://www.quiltingboard.com/groups/...group-g14.html Mailing Deadline: You must have your quilt in the mail no later than July 31, 2013. If you do not think you can meet that deadline, you might want to wait a month or two until your schedule frees up and you don’t feel pressured. DOLL QUILT SWAP GUIDELINES SIZE: Doll quilts can be between 12”x12” to 24”x24” or any size or shape in between. If your finished quilt measures 24" x 26", or 11" x 13" it's fine. No worries or excessive rules for this swap. MATERIALS: Most participants use cotton, but you can use any other natural fiber like wool, linen or silk. EMBELLISHMENTS: Let your creativity rule. Add beads, buttons, ribbon, lace, rickrack, or whatever if you feel like it. Or add nothing at all. It’s up to you. CONSTRUCTION: Pick your technique. Doll quilts may be pieced, appliquéd, wholecloth, quilted by hand or quilted by machine. All quilts should have binding. LABEL: Please add a label or sign your quilt on the back with your name and the date. It is a wonderful record of your work and years from now, it will help your partner remember who made this magnificent work of art! If your quilt is reversible and you don’t want to sign it, please include a card or attach a removable tag with your Quilting Board name or real name if different. MANNERS: Don’t for get to thank your partner. A simple post on the thread for the month is terrific, but a PM is nicer still. Please leave feedback for your partner. HELP YOUR HOSTESS KEEP TRACK: When you mail off your quilt, please send me a PM. Also send one when you receive a quilt you’re your partner. This will help me keep track and to ensure that everyone receives a quilt. PHOTOS: At the Quilting Board we love photos! A big part of the doll quilt fun is seeing what everyone has created, but as with most things in life, there is a little etiquette to follow. Usually the receiver will post a photo, but not everyone has a camera, so please photograph your quilt before you send it just in case. Don’t post a photo until your partner receives your quilt so the surprise won’t be spoiled. If you cannot post a photo, please ask your partner to do so. PARTNERS: Once sign up has ended, I will assign partners. I will try to pair you with someone you haven’t had as a swap partner previously. You will make a quilt for your partner and s/he will make one for you. Please PM your partner to share physical addresses. Do not post addresses on this thread. Although there is a theme and it is often sender’s choice, it is always nice to ask if your partner has any preferences. COMMUNICATION: If something unexpected comes up and for any reason you cannot meet the deadline or need to drop out of the swap, please let me know as soon as you know. If you take the time to communicate any difficulties, I can make sure things work out favorably for you and your partner with no hard feelings as a result. If, however, you just disappear off the face of the earth, you will not be permitted to participate in future swaps until you make good on your commitment. |

Kind of excited about this one... There is a Civil War block called Richmond. Then there's Sweet Virginia Breeze, City of the Monuments. I might have to try my hand at printing on fabric some of my favorite Richmond pictures.
Has anyone had done the pictures to fabric transfer? How is it holding up? |
Berryberry, no self portrait?
I hope everyone remembers the one most important rule - DON'T BE BORING! |
I'm in again too. Have some ideas floating around in my head. Am going to try something totally new for me.

The field is so wide open, I bet we'll see quite a diverse group of minis this month. I'm going to be like you Kitsy and try something new too. |
This is addictive...I PM'd Krystyna the other day...I am not sure what to do with this one but I know I will figure out something.
Yikes! How did I miss this? Of course sign me up! Although I am a tad bit boring, I'll try to outdo myself, lol. PMing now.
I'm in but this one has me wondering what to do.
Sending a PM - this sounds like a lot of fun!!
Just have fun. But not boring fun because fun isn't boring.
Sorry I was MIA yesterday. Went to the dentist for a cleaning which ended up being what I imagine is similar to being water boarded. I seriously felt like I was drowning and that triggered a lovely meltdown. Hint to dental hygienists - when you are spraying a hose full of water into someone's mouth don't tell them to breathe through their nose and then spray water up there too. I think I will clean my own teeth from now on. |
I have no idea where to begin!
I am trying raw edge applique for the first time but I have to take off my 'perfectionist' hat before I start sewing. I think I have fallen out of the box into the arty side of quilting for this month...Yikes !!!
Sharon, someone said making a room with lots of fabric in it and a hand sticking out as that is where they live. I live among cornfields so . . . I had earlier thought of a doghouse, haha.
I have a million ideas ... where to start?
This is my first go with this swap. Sounds like fun. I already PMed Krystyna - so, kind of in reverse order?? Interesting theme. . . . will have to put my thinking cap on for this one. Thanks for including me! Jane
Welcome, Jane! It will be quite impossible not to have fun with this one!
Sew many ideas floating around in this head of mine!! Trying to "uncrazy" a little. Artsy is my thing these days. Not sure that sits well with everyone. Can't wait to get my name and see what she likes.
"Uncrazy"? No! No! No! We like crazy.
And we also like ARTSY! Get crackin'!
Well I wish I could play boring I seldom am :) BUT right now would make a very boring dq. All of my belongings are sitting in a 6 x 12 uhaul in the front yard. last day here. So if you had wanted a uhaul wall hanging then well I would have been the partner for you! and since I have not seen my new place yet I can't tell make you a where I live there either! and uh a self portrait of me would NOT be boring BUT it would be scary as all heck so.. perhaps I join next month when I am a tad more sane (ha ha shut up Krystyna) and I can find my sewing machine. I will be watching your unboring and totally fun projects. Note: if I HAD played you would have to remember what I did with the crazy quilt. I made a suntanning chicken SO you truly can breath easy phew le Brat is taking time off I am safe this month. (but I will be back so dont get too relaxed)
Brat, when you get settled I think you should make one anyway. A U-haul quilt sounds fabulous!
Linda your suntanning chicken was a total hoot (uh, a cluck?) one of my all time favorites! I still laugh and smile when I think about it. And a U Haul quilt would be so cool! Best wishes with your move and I hope you get settled in quickly and happily and back to sewing!

I'm joining for the first time. I live in Kansas and was in the Flint Hills yesterday at the Tall Prairie Grass Preserve - it was absolutely beautiful there. Hoping I can put my ideas into a quilt!
I'm glad you posted, Elisabrat! Post when you get to your destination! It's pretty country out there.

Regretfully need to sit this one out. We are replacing floors (carpet to vinyl plank) and that includes the sewing room. It will take a plow to empty the room, then need to find a place to store everyting for awhile, and who knows how long to sort and restock. Swapping sewing room with my bedroom which is larger -- don;t mind the smaller bedroom since its only for sleeping. But in between the pulling, scraping, and gluing, I need to consider repainting as well. I'm tired thinking about it -- naptime!!

No! Not possible! No!!!

paperpieceme, WOW! You are fast. The July list isn't even up yet, haha.

Paperpieceme, you may have set a record - I haven't even been able to choose an idea yet.
It is really great to see new people join like Jane and klgls - welcome! You will have a ball here with this fun group of ladies! |
