I hope you can join us Carrie, and that you have some good news on Monday. That barn fabric is so pretty and the block you chose is perfect to showcase the fabric. Mona, I love your choice of fabric, that center will look so beautiful, so pretty. And Jackie, I think your custom block will make the DH proud for sure. Can't wait to decide on mine....I'm thinking a little outside the box for mine, but haven't decided for sure yet. I'll be cutting for my merry mayhem challenge first. Hugs all!

Mona that looks great! I have always wanted to make that block but no matter how many times I've tried I can't get the curved seams to lay flat.

I have a block picked out (thinking positive that I can participate!)...it is called Entwined Star. It is only 12" so I'll either do the math to make it 18" or add borders...it will be done in shades of red w/black. My plan is to use it as a quilt for my daughter.

I like that pattern also.
My seams do not lay flat but it did come out better than I thought it would.
Each of the 4 blocks will be a slightly different pattern and colors for the most part, as I'm working on them I keep singing "In a New York Minute, OOOO"
We were supposed to got to an Eagles concert in May but it got cancelled with Covid.

Hi ladies, Well I've had a busy weekend... No hill mountain walking due to horrendous weather, so a bit more of my centre block has been sewn down in amongst helping to look after my grands...
I like how it's turning out so far...

That is awesome Jacquie. I love it. I am going to paper piece a big moose.

carriem 12-21-2020 05:38 PM

Jacquie, your block is really coming along nicely!!

have4boys, I can't wait to see what you come up with. :)

Well, I have to have further testing done and with the holidays coming up they can't get me in until Jan 6th. So Mona if you want to open up my spot to someone else I understand. I am going to work on a center block this week...if it can't be used for this group hopefully I can join one in the future.

This doctor thinks it is carpal tunnel presenting a little differently than usual so this test (EMG) should pinpoint if it that for sure or not. Anyone had carpal tunnel surgery? Just wondering if I'll be able to sew within a couple weeks after or not? I can't promise any intricate borders but would be sure to make them look nice and tie in well with the others if end up to be healing from a surgery...

Morning, I'm new here and from the uk so interested about how international groups work too. Never been involved in a round robin or other collaborative quilt project so am just going to be a spectator this time while I try and figure out if I have the time keeping skills to be involved in the future. I see that some of you are working on your centre blocks already (loving it by the way, please keep sharing your progress https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/tongue.png) but I'm wondering how long the last person to sign up would get to complete their centre if they sign up on the last day of sign ups? (I'm sorry, that last sentence felt a bit like a cheer version of how much wood would a wood chuck chuck...)

Hi Carrie, my secretary had the carpal tunnel release surgery on both hands, one after the other, and then the symptoms came back! The surgeries were very painful and she was desperate to find something alternative when her symptoms returned. She found a massage *specialist* that worked on the neck/shoulder, particulary shoulder, which helped release the carpal tunnel in her hands. She went to the gal for 6+ sessions and found relief. When she would feel the symptoms starting again, she would immediately go for the massages. We rearranged her office space, all to better position her arms and hands to stop the pinching. She has been able to keep it at bay for more than 15 years. You are correct that pieced borders might not be too difficult but tiny stuff would be. I'm sure you get lots of opinions, but I thought it would be worthwhile to share her story. Hugs hugs hugs.

I had carpal tunnel syndrome years ago abs had both hands operated on a couple of years a part. It’ll take a couple of weeks to get over the surgery after the bandages come off. As soon as my bandage came off I did physio exercises daily with my hands and when the scar had healed I massaged the palm of my hand around the wound site where all the muscles had bunched up. This helped immensely!!!
I've never looked back since getting the op done! I was using my machine no bother, just have to be careful and sensible. Only problem I can see you having is cutting fabric... depending on which hand you use.

Hello everyone - so glad you have this up and running. I will be sitting this one out - just don't know what is lurking around the next 6 months with my mother and all. I loved all the quilts and workmanship in our last RR - and maybe I will try again.
I will be watching and oohing and aahing as you all enjoy.

Thank you ladies for your input...if I can avoid surgery and get relief I am all for that. I might have to have my husband help with cutting. Or more likely ask a quilt-y friend to help me. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I was able to get a center block finished yesterday....so ahead of the game there. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png I had a whole day home and just took lots of breaks. My idea of reds didn't pan out since I wanted to just use scraps. Instead I found this black w/flowers, birds and butterflies that I had 2 yards of. I have no idea what I bought it for and didn't find coordinating fabrics in my stash so thought it would be a great option for a Round Robin. When I re-sized from 12" to 15" I messed up so it isn't exactly like the original block I posted, but I still am happy with it.

Looks good CarrieM.

I finished my enter also, there are a few issues but I'm happy with the finished product since this way my first go around with curved seams. All the rounds that are added will hide my errors.

It is looking like we will just have 5 in the group this time.

mjpEncinitas 12-23-2020 03:55 PM

Our group is formed, how exciting!!

I've been working a bit more on my block today. I still have to add something to the skyline and add blades to the windmill. I also have a chicken coup and chickens to add to the foreground, I'll also try and add some flowers in some way.
Tomorrow is another day...

Happy sewing ladies!! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gifhttps://i.postimg.cc/T2BqVbb6/26-dec.jpg

Jacquie that is adorable, can't wait to see how it grows.

carriem 12-26-2020 04:52 PM

Jacquie that is really coming along!!

Mona, is it ok to send along 1-yard or so of coordinating fabric? I have plenty of my "focus fabric" and would love to see it used in the different borders if anyone wants to use it. :)

Mona G 12-26-2020 05:55 PM

Yes, 1 yard will be fine

Rebaquilts 12-27-2020 05:52 AM

Yes please send :-)

Mona G 12-28-2020 07:41 AM

Only 4 more days to sign up for group 2.

Hi ladies, I think I've finally finsihed my barnyard pictorial centre... I think what I have added is enough, I'm thinking if I add any more it'll become too cluttered?
What do you think?
Now to make my label to add into the package...

Thanks for looking. xxx

I love this center, and am thinking a Canadian border is in order? I see that maple leaf and I start reminiscing about Toronto. LOL. It really is quite a beautiful center!

There are a few spots left in the second group, please pm me your info to join.

petthefabric 12-29-2020 12:04 PM

I'd like to join. My biggest issue is posting pictures. My computer is acting up and won't accept pictures. So if someone would help me, then I could join. I'd send a message picture from my phone and someone else post it. It could be a big imposition, so I totally understand.

Hi there, if that is all that is preventing you from joining, then welcome!! You can easily send or text me photos and I'll be happy to post them for you. I'm sure other members on this board would do the same. I have an iphone that easily resizes photos and allows me to post them. You can message me privately and we can exchange numbers when the time comes. Hugs! Rebaquilts

Mona G 12-29-2020 09:07 PM

Petthefabric, don't let that hold you back. We can work it out. Please pm your info.

petthefabric 12-30-2020 12:12 PM

My info is sent. Looking forward to this.

Center almost completed

Hi all, here is a sneak peek at my center. I’ll be adding some thread work over the weekend and mail it out Monday, because it’s going overseas. It’s my friend Jessica’s cat, with quite a few followers on tiktok, #aruruthecat. As you know, I love mid century modern, this will be her quilt, “Homage to Jess”. Her birthday is today, so posting this center for her is fitting. Hugs and I’m excited!!
