I wonder how we can advertise, or have more people read about our swap..
I just was looking at the table showing how many squares you need for what size quilt.. Thanks Havplenty.. You made my day, or not... I still have a ton more to go.. but having a lot of fun.. For those that got my baggies in the last swap, I hope they were okay.. For those that are getting my baggies in this one, they will be different from my last.. Hit a garage sale with scraps..

me too. got plenty of them.

sew4nin 07-25-2012 05:49 PM

I received from you in the last swap - no worries - great stuff! I have tried not to duplicate anything I used in the spring swap for the summer swap, so if you swapped with me in the spring, you should not have to worry about getting the same stuff in the summer swap.

I, for one, don't care if I do get duplicates. My blocks have two, three, four of a kind (sometimes times two) and they still look good! Bring 'em on, ladies. I like them all!

frustratedquilter40 07-28-2012 10:50 PM

Got my 30 sets cut and placed into baggies (placed a couple extra squares in each one just in case :)) labels printed and placed on baggies. Now only if the postman would bring me those darn padded envelopes! My post office does not carry them so ordered them for free to be delivered to the house said it takes 7 days so hopefully early this week sometime

dottie dodge 07-29-2012 06:33 AM

Just joined this forum, thanks Berri for telling me about it. Put me down for 30 sets. SueD

PM'ed Mariposa

Mariposa 07-29-2012 06:43 AM

frustrated-- you will love those envelopes! And they are only available to order online.

dottie-- glad you're playing with us!

barri1 07-29-2012 09:33 AM

Sue.. Welcome.. I think you will really enjoy this group, and get hooked.. It's very addicting, but it has a great bunch of people.. If only I would get off the computer, and finish bagging my squares..
Barri

I would like to know more about these envelopes of which you speak. Do I go to the post office website? What are they called?

here is the link to the padded envelopes from the usps.

sew4nin 07-30-2012 06:42 AM

Thank you. I am always amazed at the amount of information I get from this board. I thought I was getting a deal buying my padded envelopes @ the dollar store.

Mariposa 07-30-2012 09:30 AM

**make sure when you order the envelopes, you order a 15 pack. As you can only order 1 bag of them at a time! :)

Nelco 07-30-2012 11:27 AM

Why use padded envelopes? And if my math is correct (my 1st time doing this) 20 packs X 50 = 1,000 sq. Still cutting..:o

boilerbarb 07-30-2012 12:07 PM

I'm in again, yipee! I haven't been on the computer for a while so thanks to everyone who sent baggies last time. I loved everything I got. I really should decide on something to make with them. I have just squared up my 84 blocks for a 4 patch stacked posey quilty and am trying to decide on a setting and whether to make 1 or 2 quilts. Decisions are not my specialty.

boilerbarb 07-30-2012 12:24 PM

Thanks for the site for envelopes since our PO doesn't stock them and wouldn't order them either.

As I finished my cutting today, I wondered how many are also doing the Curious Quilter swap... It occurs to me that if folks do both, unless we cut these from different fabrics, folks might end up with multiple sets of the same thing. I'm waiting to hear before I mail mine out!

same here...as far as I know.

SheriR 07-30-2012 04:36 PM

I'm doing Curious Quilter swap too. With Dottie joining that makes four quilt board members. (YEAH Dottie!!)

marytoddliz 07-30-2012 04:43 PM

I am going to join again, now that I understand the rules LOL, sending PM to Mariposa

barri1 07-30-2012 05:16 PM

I didn't get any of the board members in the Curious Quilter swap. . I got Dottie who wasn't a member until I told her what fun we were having, and she would fit in.. I think I might have enough different squares to swap for a while. I have two people that are sending me scraps.. Will share them..

barri1 you got me for a partner in the curious quilter swap so you did get one board member from this swap.

marytoddliz 07-30-2012 06:25 PM

I am for 30 sets sent PM to Mariposa. My husband thinks I am nuts, said "Who trades little tiny slips of fabric all over the place, why don't you just trade big pieces"... he doesn't get it sometimes.:D

You're on my list as well barri :D that makes two. I'm excited about both swaps.

My family thinks I'm crazy. Im having fun so I'll just keep doing what I'm doing. :D

barri1 07-31-2012 02:47 AM

I'm happy to report that all my Curious squares are out.. I'm waiting for my newbie names.. I volunteered for five.. I still have a few more bags to make on this one, and will send them out..
Havplenty.. I didn't associate your names.. Sorry..
SheriR... Nobody questions my sanity and why I'm cutting these silly little squares.. I should be gettting some squares from my friend's mother in NE MO....
Actually, I'm not sure I'm even cutting them right. I know nobody has complained, but I'm not sure I'm doing them very efficiently.. I have been using a scissor, and a stack of fabric(about five fold), and cut around a template.. Is there an easier way, or more accurate..

jme 07-31-2012 06:38 AM

I'm in! LOL

Mariposa 07-31-2012 06:50 AM

** We have 32 folks signed up so far! Wahoo! **

SheriR 07-31-2012 06:57 AM

Oh my goodness Barri. If I cut all these tiny squares with scissors I'd go bonkers. I cut into strips than cut the strips to squares. And every day I think I need to get an Accuquilt!

barri1 07-31-2012 10:00 AM

Sheri... I was thinking the same thing, but I panic about the accuracy.. I won't get the accuquilt.. I thought for a very short time, and it's too limited.. i have to remember to look at my cutting board, and try it.. Do you use a templete?

islandwiz1 07-31-2012 12:18 PM

My 10 year old grandaughter just told me I could make a quilt alot faster if I didn't cut my strips into squares.LOL

frustratedquilter40 07-31-2012 01:04 PM

Mariposa
Can you PM me your address so I can get these little beauties off to you .

Thank You

Havplenty 07-31-2012 01:10 PM

my squares are on their way to mariposa. and mariposa there is a little surprise in there for you also, enjoy.

No templet. Just a good ruler, cutting mat and rotary cutter. I try to add extras in case I mess some up. :D

barri1 this is how i cut my squares. hopefully you have a rotary cutter to use.

i cut 1.5" strips to start with:

i double the strips over so that i am cutting two at a time of each color i have laid out:

i stack my strips on top of each other so that i am cutting 6 strips at once. i cut off an end tip to even the strips up:

i take my ruler and measure out 1.5" square:

and then i cut my squares 6 sat a time:

you may find this method easier than cutting around a template with scissors. even with scraps i try to cut strips. if i am not able to do so, i stack up scraps 6 at a time and cut around my 1.5" template with a rotary cutter. good luck cutting.

peaceandjoy 07-31-2012 05:24 PM

It's hard to know who's doing both - board names can be misleading, lol... Barri and Sheri I have as swap partners, but Vena, Sue, Marcia and AJ, based on state could possibly be participating here? My other four are international, and I don't think they are participating here.

As these aren't due until mid-September, I could hold these back and use them for some future swap, hopefully, and cut 20 new sets of 50 so that there aren't duplicates going to anyone. My padded envelopes from USPS haven't arrived yet anyhow.

Although I have an Accuquilt, I don't have a 1.5" die. Is there one? I know there's a 1.5" strip, which in theory could be rotated and sub-cut. Barri, I can't imagine cutting all of these with scissors!! Does your hand bother you after all of that cutting?

As I am cutting from large scraps and fat quarters, as I cut I am continuing to cut up that piece. My tubs for 2", 2 1/2", 3 1/2" and 5" - as well as 1 1/2" - are filling up. I'll be ready for many of not only Bonnie Hunter's patterns, but for Joan Ford (Scrap Therapy) as well!

Now if I can just find some dedicated sewing time in the upcoming months, that'd be great. The shop in Watkins Glen has a quilter's inn upstairs... Anyone want to come up/over to the Finger Lakes? It's gorgeous in the fall!

Thank goodness...for those of us addicted to swapping these little treasures...YES there is one for the Studio. Mine arrived in the mail today! Yippee!!!

If one exists for the Go, I haven't been able to find it.

sew4nin 07-31-2012 07:56 PM

Yep, you found me (Vena). I am one of yur swap partners for the curious quilter swap. I emailed you my addy. Will get yours in the mail as soon as I get your mailing address. I will check what I am sending you and try to not to duplicate what I have going for this swap. My other 2 swap partners are international.
