Nexxus -- Mailed off the fabric this morning.

marytoddliz 03-05-2012 02:26 PM

Melinda, I mailed the fabric with a 6 x 9 manila envelope with 2 stamps on it, if you need more please let me know. I was thinking of sending you another "Ugly" and I will add more postage for you to put on that envelope. The one I mailed to you was $1.20 not to bad. I wrapped it in cling wrap. Both the wrap and the envelopes I got at the dollar store. They were 6 envelopes for 99cents and the wrap was also 99cents.

I am going to use this method to do all exchanges, when I mail back the completed blocks.

Foxflower 03-05-2012 02:48 PM

I bought 5 pack of 6x9 padded plastic envelopes at walmart. Don't remember the price, but they said "super strong & moisture resistant" on the envelopes. I put on 2 stamps on the return envelope and included an extra in case it is needed, if not, easy to send back with my new "ugly" fabric.

mom-6 03-05-2012 03:11 PM

Almost forgot about this...been spending most of my life on the road lately...will check out my stash this evening. I know one of the fabrics I'm considering will quite likely go great with the rust one pictured earlier LOL!

Foxflower 03-05-2012 04:50 PM

HMM, sounds like this swap is going to be an autumn colors lover's dream swap.

Nexxus831 03-05-2012 06:32 PM

my fabric choice

I am considering this fabric for the swap...I will post my other option later. This one makes me wonder what I was thinking when I bought it

Nexxus831 03-05-2012 06:39 PM

Second choice

1 Attachment(s)
ok here is the second one....anyone care to vote?

JenniePenny 03-05-2012 06:40 PM

Oh my, Melinda! What the heck? It's something else. (the first one)
However, if I ended up with it, I would know just how to make it a swan. What a great challenge.

Nexxus831 03-05-2012 06:43 PM

LOL I know Jennie....I think I must have been wearing rose colored glasses that day.

Foxflower 03-05-2012 06:44 PM

Perhaps you were planning a southwestern theme quilt. The individual designs aren't bad, it's just crazy all together. I'm guilty for bringing my own ugly home too.

Foxflower 03-05-2012 07:36 PM

Nexxus, I think the first one is uglier than the second.

moonrise 03-05-2012 07:50 PM

I actually like the first one! :D

marytoddliz 03-05-2012 08:31 PM

I like the second one better, I think I would have brought it home too! I think it needs a fussy cut or better yet maybe a kaleidoscope block.

But I do have a fabric that will go well with the first choice. Very South West looking.

This is so fun!

Foxflower 03-06-2012 09:55 AM

Yes it is fun. Let's see more "ugly" fabric!

mom-6 03-07-2012 12:36 PM

Tired to take a picture of my 'uglies' and they looked ever so much better in the picture than in person...the intensity of the color got all washed out in the picture. Made me think maybe I should just put them in the wash with lots of bleach and they'd be ok!!!

Foxflower 03-07-2012 01:37 PM

Bleach -- interesting idea. It would probably take so much bleach to reduce the color that the fabric would become brittle. Ever had bleach make a hole in something? I have. You could try that stuff that removes color in preparation for dying fabric.

ok so here is the list so far of members joining us. I also put beside it if I have received your fabric. The ending for signing up for this doesn't end until March 23rd and fabric doesn't have to be received by me until April 6th so please don't panic. Hopefully we can get some more members to join us. Would you guys like for me to take pictures of the ugly fabric that I have received so far or would you rather wait until after I send the fabric out to people. By the way I think I will have my kids pic the fabrics to be sent to whom.

Not serious about trying the bleach! Although one time when the kids were really little I had a red, white and blue striped t-shirt that belonged to one of the boys get in a load of whites by mistake and it all but stripped the colors...turned out pale peach and light gray!

gotthebug 03-07-2012 08:49 PM

Is it too late to join inthe fun? I would like to participate too. I have some REALLY ugly ones. Gee, I'll have to choose just one...... I'll PM

Nexxus831 03-09-2012 08:29 PM

So yesterday I received a package from Schertz, TX. Can I ask which member that is so I mark down that I received your fabric. I am also out of town until Monday so I may have received some packages today or tomorrow. I will try to post some of the fabrics I have received so far.

missgigglewings 03-09-2012 09:01 PM

That would be missgigglewings who lives in Schertz Texas. San Antonio is our largest suburb!

Nexxus831 03-09-2012 10:06 PM

Foxflower 03-11-2012 02:48 PM

I know I could figure something out for that one gotthebug! I am out here in the wild west afterall! No Saguaro (sp?) cactus, but plenty of the rest. My DD was just complaining that our dog had hauled in a cow skull even. :p

craftykk 03-11-2012 05:07 PM

I'm definitely in! Sounds fun!

@Craftykk I sent you a PM with my address to send the fabric to.

I am home and didn't receive any more fabrics (we have locked mailboxes) just so any of you that have sent them out I didn't get anything.

My mother has joined us in this also. She has a profile on here but she is brand new here. This should be fun to have her join us. This is her ugly fabric.

Nancy in Louisiana 03-13-2012 08:40 AM

Can't resist -- gotta go for this one just to get rid of my "ugly". Will be going out today!

Foxflower 03-13-2012 10:28 AM

One of the biggest joys for me in quilting is the challenge of creating....gives me a fun way to exercise my brain and make something beautiful. Conquering a "problem" is so much fun. I think that's why I resist buying quilt kits--little challenge for me. Maybe someday I'll buy one that involves challenging piecing in order to learn something new. Anyway, I can't wait to see what I get and what I can do with it!

I completely agree with you. Gets those creative juices flowing.

marytoddliz 03-13-2012 10:03 PM

Melinda, Where did your Mom get that fabric! LOL, my Husband saw it and said he wants me to make him a table cover out of it! Poker night I guess! Although they don't do it here, because they know I would beat them!... We have board games once a month with my husbands family, it is really fun, a nice break from the computer or TV.
