Updated -Siggie Swap 2012 Sign Ups close August 1st 2012
The swap is still not full so adding another month to try and get this filled - so sorry for those that have sent in already for the delay- We are gaining ground and it was mentioned that many are out doing family/fun things during the summer months so maybe that is why it is not full yet ? I am ever hopeful
Due to some concern about a short turn around time I have added a month - hope this helps get more signed up Well it seems like it is that time of year again to do a Siggie Swap ... so here goes ..... We will be using a version of this block : http://www.quilterscache.com/I/IndianHatchetBlock.html as it is shown will make 16 blocks for this swap :) so hoping it doesn't take long to make them One section should equal 4 1/2" Please use 100% prewashed cotton - white or WoW for the center - scrappy for the corners Because of the way this swap gets done and so I don't get buried under a ton of blocks I am limiting signup to the first 64 people to sign up, so if all goes well you will get back 63 different blocks and one of your own. Commitment is key to the success of this swap - so if you are not sure DO NOT sign up until you have the blocks finished . Whatever it costs you to ship to me - is what you need to include for return postage :) In the center strip please include - your real name, board name, year and State or Country - Use a Pigma or Fabric Pen, Sharpies do not work well when writing on fabric Of course all the standard swap rules apply : http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...-a-t20154.html I do realize that this will not be big enough for a quilt by itself but by adding borders/sashing/extra blocks you can make it bigger - and hey we are a creative group we can make it work  or leave it 32 x32 and have it as a wall hanging Sign ups will close August 1st - mailed to me by August 15th ,will try to get mailed back out by August 30th- This swap has been a lot of fun in the past - so let the fun begin :) Please feel free to ask any questions- voice any concerns - or just follow along on the journey |
Having a bad math day!!!!
Do we make 256 of the 4 1/2" units? 16 per 16"block and 16 of the blocks? Or do we only make 16 of the 4 1/2 units? Please help an old lady figure this out. |
PM-ing you. I missed out on the last one! :)

And if 64 of the individual 4-1/2" blocks were sewn together (8 blocks x 8 blocks), that would make a 32" mini-quilt. :) |
the white or WoW is 4 1/2 but what size are the corner (patterned) squares.....quessing 2 1/2 but that is just a guess
Moonrise- you are correct with the math - you will be making 4 of the 16 unit blocks or 64 of the separate blocks
Sunliten- the corner blocks are 2 1/2 - there are 2 pages to the pattern and for some reason they tell you 4 1/2 on page 1 and 2 1/2 for the corner block on page 2 :) |

Sign me up!
This will be the third year I do the Siggie swap. Can't miss it. Pm'ing you! |
I may have to sit this one out because I can't cut yet to see if I even want to do this. I know I have enough fabric to make them, but until I can cut, no good. Will watch
Sign me up also... Wouldn't want to miss this one :)
So if I get this right, we make 64 of the 4-1/2" blocks and we do not connect them. I'm unclear on whether we put all our information on all of the blocks or just one? I'm new to the board but would love to participate. You can count me in.
I am interested in being in this swap. Please include me.
Charlottemarie |
You will make 64 of the small block - and on each block in the white area write: Your real name , your board name , state or country and the year , so :
Sharon Bxxxxxx Sharon b Indiana 2012 use a fabric pen or pigma pen- experience shows a sharpie will spread out as you use it to write. Will add both of you to the list - Thanks for joining |
I would love to join this swap. Ive done this two other times and have loved it.
Is it ok to have all the corner squares a different color/shade/pattern (scrappy) or should they all be identical?
Jannie- It can be scrappy , that is what makes this swap fun - you can use up small pieces of fabric :) Some have a hard time working with scrappy so they will make theirs all the same and that is fine also :)
letsquilt I have you signed up :) Thanks for joining
Sounds like fun count me in.
Landers Gotcha Thanks for joining
I would love to do this swap. I've done one before. However, the timing is just not right for this one. Hope you all have fun and enjoy the swap!
I want to sign up, but have to check the time thing as well. If I finish my quilts for quilters swap this weekend, then I can join in the fun. I have enough fabric for sure and the scraps are no problem at all. I would have to make enough to make a lap quilt. Hopefully I can decide before you fill up. I will be watching. How many so far?
Plenty of room so far only 11 have signed up for sure - hope you can work it out to join us :)
How many people signed up last year?
A person is not signing the center block, we are just labeling it? Just want to be sure if I can find time.
In the center strip please include - your real name, board name, year and State or Country |
Sharon ~ could you please add me to the list. This will be the second time for me.
I want in on this too. It looks so nice and I love the pattern. this is my first time doing this and I too was confused on how many to make but the way I understand it is that we make 64 4 1/2 inch squares. :)
Barb |
Ok added Nurse Bonnie and urgodschild2
urgodschild2- correct you are making 64 of the 4 1/2 inch blocks QuilterMomma- you sign/print your name with a fabric pen or pigma pen ( If you use a pigma pen remember to heat set it ) in the white area- some use a fine grit sand paper to hold the fabric in place , I just used my hands to hold in place and not a smooth surface ( a card table that has some give to it, if that makes sense) |
I think the last one was like 56 blocks- would have to look back and see for sure .
This is my third year involved in the siggie swap the first 2 years i just sent in the blocks this is my first year hosting - hope we can get it filled |
I have my fabrics cut!
I bought my white this weekend when I was out on a Shop Hop , washed it today , will start cutting this week :)
I need to buy white fabric for the centers.
I have the rest cut. Can't wait to start. |
I have been thinking of joining but got word that I need to babysit my 20 month old granddaughter in Iowa who just had ear surgery. I will be tied up until the first part of June without a sewing machine so I will go and have fun being a grandma. I'm sure when I get home I will be ready to sew up a storm. Hopefully next time I can join.
Got the first package already from Moonrise- haven't even opened it yet was gone all day and too tired to tonight but wanted to let Moonrise know it was here :)
Can't believe how slow sign ups have been - is the time too short ? Any suggestions to get more involved ? |
Sharon, Maybe add it to your signature and that way when you comment or post to any other thread, it will "advertise" it. I hope we get a full group, as I would like to have enough to make a lapsize quilt after adding borders, so I can snuggle under it. Also, it seems like the common thread so far is time. Summertime seams to be a busy time for people, so maybe move the date out just a little bit ?
I have no problem moving the dates - jump in and tell me what works better :)
I think it wouldhelp me to join in only because I can't cut fabric yet. I found some white I bought on sale last weeek just in case I could join but by June 1 was going to be hard and I see Jannie posted she was babysitting so could not. And yes, summer is busy especially right now for gardening and graduations and weddings. A couple of weeks would help me at least. I like this one because I get to use up some of htose scraps and get them moving out and circulated. Lord knows I have enough of those so will be able to do some here and this pattern is cool so will be able to make some more for myself to get a quilt out of this. So two to four weeks works for me then my hand will be healed enough to whip out some of these pretties. I am working on a graduation quilt and a couple of other swaps that I need to finish up this month and my UFOs so busy right now but will have more time in June when can cut.
Can you post a picture of Moonrise blocks?
I added a month - hope that helps :) and be sure and pass the word !
