This way we could do all three.
=)

You got my vote  I've been getting some fabric together. I have the gardening, some black and white, but need batiks. I've never worked with them before. This is great. I went from not knowing what to do to wanting to do everything! Thank you all for your participation. What a great group!

That's what I was thinking too....Great minds think alike around this place. :-D

Deb watkins 03-22-2010 04:25 AM

sounds like we have a go for all three. NorBanaquilts, shall we keep the voting till Friday? What do you suggest for our deadlines for signing up and due date? And balloons out of batiks???? sounds good to me!!!

stitchinwitch 03-22-2010 04:39 AM

hm GOOD! I have some beautiful batiks, and some printed balloons - and since I have alot of hot air it should be a piece-o-cake!

STAR 03-22-2010 04:54 AM

I may be out if the ballons are out of batiks, only because I already have some hot air balloon fabric I wanted to use

Balloons can be made out of any kind of fabric. Some were just thinking of doing THEIR balloons in batiks. Mine, naw, I have stripes, polka dots, stars.......

STAR 03-22-2010 05:57 AM

oh ok, was thinking they were going to be strictly batiks

Claudia Paula 03-22-2010 07:07 AM

Although hot air balloons isn't my favorite choice I might join if a really cute hot air balloon pattern is chosen. I would think we should all do the same pattern. The fun and colorful result with all different fabrics/colors would be best.

BATIKS

NorBanaquilts 03-22-2010 11:26 AM

Do the following mail dates sound doable?

Batiks - July 15th

Balloons - September 3

Black/White/Brights - October 15th

That would give everyone 6 weeks between mailings. Sign ups would close 2 weeks prior to the mail date.

STAR 03-22-2010 11:56 AM

those dates sound good to me!! I may be able to do all 3!!

SazuBMidlands 03-22-2010 11:57 AM

Sounds good to me too. :-)

sew cornie 03-22-2010 12:34 PM

That sounds great NorBana. Thank you for spreading out the dates. It will make it much easier to participate in all of them.

purplemem 03-22-2010 01:01 PM

I like this. I might be able to do all, also. What did we decide about the hot air balloons? Pieced, applique, fabric with balloons?

Let me know...

These dates sound great for me. I'm going to do the Batiks for sure but may have to try the other 2 as well. Don't know yet. Where do we send them and how big are we making the blocks? 12 inches is my preference.

Thanks all you great organizers. We'd be lost without you and your hard work. Feathers

The dates are great. And I agree with everyone else too since the dates are spread out we can do more than one. Loving it

Dragonfly Nana 03-22-2010 02:22 PM

I agree with Claudia Paula for the Balloons - same pattern for all would be nice (I don't have a pattern so I hope someone could share one) and all the different colors.

I have a pattern for a balloon, I'll try to get it scanned and posted tomorrow.

If anyone else has a pattern, please post it too!

NorBanaquilts 03-22-2010 02:43 PM

Feathers-once the swaps are posted you will have all the information you need to partipate in the swap.

I was thinking of doing mine as needle turn applique', and there was a question posted as to how we were going to do them. The same block may be good for those not familiar or comfortable with applique'. So, yes, if anyone else has a pattern, please post!!

Seems this is a good time frame.
Since we have several quilters interested, and can do all three swaps, when would you suggest the organizers post the swap with guidelines?

wilhelmina 03-22-2010 09:36 PM

A suggestion

Deb watkins 03-22-2010 09:46 PM

This is a good size for a basic applique'pattern! The balloon itself can be of ones' choice for color and manner of attachment. I wonder if there is a 'block' design out there as well?

stitchinwitch 03-23-2010 03:31 AM

- so the plan is everyone doing the same design with their choice of colors?

Sounds good to me. I will be in all 3.

Gramakitten 03-23-2010 05:04 AM

I'm going to stay with batiks. Ready to get started. Can;t wait to see the final decision. But it looks like 12" has the most votes.

Claudia Paula 03-23-2010 06:10 AM

The dates are good for me too. I don't do applique so I would need to see a pieced/paper pieced balloon pattern before I would commit to that block. I love the idea of black/white/bright. So often it is black/white/red and I have a quilt with that combination so with bright it is exciting.

This is so much fun!!!

Very nice. Thanks

purplemem 03-23-2010 08:10 AM

I really like that balloon, I can only piece so I could now participate in the balloon swap.

I'll be in for all three swaps, now.

Yippee!

MISHNJIM 03-23-2010 08:19 AM

That balloon block is fine with me too. You are such a doll for doing that.

LovingIzabella 03-23-2010 09:12 AM

Is everyone doing the same block? I have a regular pieced pattern for a hot air balloon that I like and it is pretty simple too lol

April!!!
So happy to see you here! I wanted so much to do Boom 2.0 but I want to do these swaps, too! What's a girl to do???
I'm still waffle-ing, but will make my decisions by next week. I have to - you'll have a deadline real soon...
Hugs,
MJ

missgigglewings 03-23-2010 09:30 AM

OK....I'm in for all 3. Was it decided to do the balloons in batiks? Or in anything we want?

quiltin'gran 03-23-2010 09:48 AM

This will be my first swap...I'll do all three...I like the idea of doing the balloons and batiks in the colors we want...

NorBanaquilts 03-23-2010 09:53 AM

April, can you post a pic of the pattern you have?

Nice block - do you have the cutting measurements for this? I think this is good for those who want to do a 'block' balloon, and I like the one posted from Wilhelmina as a sample of applique'. And April, if you can post your sample, please do! I think a variety of balloons will make a nice sampler of sorts! Use your own preference of fabric for the balloon itself.
