Way to go aurora!

I worked on two WHs this wknd and here are the results of one so far. My DHs is hidden behind the one I may be using for the swap.

Most of the work on this one stars now, basting, quilting, binding.......

Remember this is only a maybe WH.:D There are other ideas I am working on also.

First I would just like to say welcome to the day!

Rhonda 09-16-2014 05:15 PM

Just to bring it to your attention-- only 6 weeks left before mailing date!!

Remember to let me know when you are ready to mail.
I'll start the mail list in Oct. probably around the middle of the month unless several are ready before then.

I am not receiving new postings again good thing I checked. Starting the FMQ on my WH.

ube quilting 09-17-2014 01:47 PM

JNCT14, I like the quilting so far. The wind actually looks like it is tossing the blocks around, nice intent. I like it!!!

JNCT14 09-18-2014 12:24 AM

Each block is a traditional one - the wind one is actually Windblown Squares, the sun is Broken Wheel, the star is Star in a Star and the moon is pieced squares and applique. It came out better than I thought.

Rhonda 09-18-2014 12:44 AM

Love what I've seen so far JNCT

Rhonda mine is done. Heres the final.

ube quilting 09-18-2014 02:13 PM

It turned out very nice, indeed. I really like the older less known blocks. Unknown to me is that windblown squares and I like it. The quilting on the moon and sun are cool too.:D

JNCT14 09-18-2014 02:24 PM

Thanks Ube! The picture doesnt really do it justice. I did SiD on the stars and meandered the background. I also meandered the moon background. Its a little different than the traditional WH. Maybe I listened to too much Earth, Wind and Fire when I was making it!

Rhonda 09-18-2014 06:19 PM

You are always so on the ball miss JNCT! Love your wall hanging.

I will start a mail list next month about mid month.

Hi All,
Have not posted much here because I've been very busy sewing on many projects.

My Fall wall hanging needs to be quilted and bound. I'm definitely in. This will finish over the weekend. had to many ideas, finally decided what to do and am making several, one for swap, one for me, one for one of my daughters, one to donate and one for my craft fairs.

Thought you guys would like this. All the pieces appliqued to the background were created with Crayola crayons. I am thinking about doing another one for the swap if I can come up with a idea. It was fun to do.

jaba 09-24-2014 05:09 PM

I like that one JNCT, those fall colors I guess. Wish I knew what my partner would like better, have changed my mind and now have a fall one, a Christmas one and an inspirational one. What do I send????

Oohh really like that J I love pumpkins LOL I've read about using crayons but never tried it.

My mom has paint sticks. they are just like crayons. She had me draw a vine design on a dresser. The paint sticks are like fat crayons. and i used a knife to sharpen the end tho they are more crumbly than crayons. they also get rounded really quickly with use.

I'm going to post this to show on the reg board but here is a pic of what I did for her.

This sits on her screened in porch at least for right now.

The rt side isn't as good as the left but it isn't easy to redo. It would have to be stripped to do it over.
The smudged places is where I removed some leaves etc and Mom is working on cleaning those areas up more.

JNCT14 09-25-2014 01:36 AM

I didn't even know you could get paint sticks! I saw a preview of a tute on Craftsy and modified the technique to make it easier. I really like your vines - now I have to look for paint sticks.....and come up with a design for another WH........

JNCT14 09-25-2014 01:38 AM

Hey jaba once I got my partner name I sent an email with pics and gave her a choice.

Rhonda 09-25-2014 01:46 AM

J I'm not sure if you can still buy them. these are some Mom has had for several years. But it's worth a try.

jaba 09-25-2014 05:55 AM

Good idea, think I will do that too. I'd forgotten it wasn't a secret swap.

Rhonda 09-25-2014 09:27 AM

The swap is not a partner swap. The reason we post progress pictures and finished pics is because noone knows what they are getting til they open the package. They also done't know who is sending to them. That is the surprise part.

I'd rather you keep the surprise so they can enjoy the suspense. I intend for everyone to make what they want to make without any influence. That is one of the reasons why you dont' get a partner.
Talking to a partner and fitting your work around that person's likes and dislikes is what most of the swaps are about. I want this one to be different so you are making something that reflects you and not your receiver.

I appreciate you're wanting to accommodate but please everyone just make whatever you want and send it.
It's more fun when noone knows who's they will get.

jaba 09-25-2014 11:08 AM

1st thing I did was go back and read the rules, I had forgotten. Will send one of them for sure, but thanks for the reminder.

Rhonda 09-25-2014 01:02 PM

Thanks Jaba I do understand wanting to do something your receiver will like. I didn't want to sound like I was scolding :) Just reminding

Love the coloring! isn't it wonderful how much fun there is in a simple crayon! I have done the coloring on fabric too. It is really cool. You can use any coloring book, clip art or free hand drawing and just have fun. Who doesn't like to color!:D

I may have shown this before so just enjoy it again. :D

So J., did you color the pieces, cut them out and then applique them onto the background? What style of applique?

I also am not thrilled with modern crayons. They don't seem to have the color saturation or % of wax like older ones do. I don't know what the new ones are made of but they really aren't crayons, they are the thought of a crayon.

If you have old crayons, any made before 10 or twenty years ago, cherish them. I still have them from when I was a kid, 50 yrs ago. They are great.
peace

JNCT14 09-25-2014 03:14 PM

Ha I wish I had crayons from 10 years ago! But I use them too fast. However Crayola seems to have a high color/wzx content and they worked well. Each piece was outlined on white faric, then heated. I used the crayon and kept reheating the fabric until I liked what I saw. It took about 3 colors to do each piece. I then used a blanket stitch on my Bernina to applique each piece to the background. I did a tiny meander for the fmq on my Babylok.
I love your Sunbonnet Sue!!!!

You weren't scolding at all. The minute I typed it, I thought to myself "it's been 4 months....I better go read the 1st page"...Whatever I decide to choose, I'm ready to mail..:)

Hey I posted the wh in the pictures section. Dottiequilts gave an excellent summary of how to use crayons if anyone is interested.

Aurora 09-26-2014 06:43 PM

I was finally able to add the borders to my wall hanging this afternoon. But still no luck posting a photo.

Anoka Quilter 09-30-2014 07:04 AM

Very nice JNCT14. Hubby is out of town this weekend so I am looking forward to getting some serious sewing done. Haven't started my WH yet, but I have the fabric and know what I am going to do, and that is half the battle.

cjr 09-30-2014 04:44 PM

I hope my partner is up for turkey. After mulling over many ideas I finally decided to make a dresden turkey. I've been wanting to do one for a long time. It really is cute and just enough to fill a spot between halloween and Christmas. I also made 3 others, one for DD other 2 to hopefully sell.

All finished now who do I mail to???

PS. No stuffing included, just warm & natural batting.
