My very first fabric postcard - I call it Jack frost's pattern book!

candi 10-26-2010 03:51 AM

Such cute postcards everyone is making. Thanks for sharing with us. I am hoping to work on mine next week as I am busy on the road this week.

Your card answers a question I had... using beads. Your card is beautiful! :-D

Short an Sweet 10-26-2010 05:15 AM

LOL these things are addictive I think I want to make my own gift tags now

ckcowl 10-26-2010 05:19 AM

one of the great things about the fabric postcards i have collected over the past 6 years in swaps is the postmarks and notes on the cards. Why have you decided we should not mail these like post cards? just wondering...seems like it kind of defeats the purpose of a post card.
i have collected about 75 postcards so far from all over the world, all have gone through the mail as a post card. some were embellished with all sorts of things they are all very cool. i think i will just watch this one to see how it goes. just curious about reasoning for the 'new-rules'

SuzanneTx 10-27-2010 06:41 AM

What is the "new rules" you are asking about?

WE can put them in the regular mail or a package. If they are embellished, it can get caught in the machines used at the sorting facility.

Why would you be questioning my rules for my swap? I just don't understand the off the wall comments when you could have very easily sent me a private message. I'm rather tired of defending how I do my swaps.

Suzanne

I think the way you run your swaps is great, as far as how to mail the postcards that would be up to the sender I guess? mine has glitter and rhinestones so it will probably have it in an envelope, If the receiver would like it postmarked I have no problem with having the card itself postmarked also.

Thanks Veronica. I try to be fair for EVERYONE and like you said, you can have the post office hand cancel and what keeps you from writing something on the back just like a post card?

I just don't understand.

I have a ton of stuff to do today. We are most likely going to have my mother in law in the hospital so I will have to take care of the chickens and her dogs. I will get back with you tonight if you send me a private message.

SuzanneTX please do not rescend your decision to do another swap. There are so many of us who depend on you. And you do not have to defend yourself on your swap and your rules. And I think PM is much better than on the post. Hope your mom is well and you are rested. Sending you big hugs. Rules are rules, if we don't like them we don't have to join. This swap is for them to be mailed in envelopes. Someone can have a swap if they want to have them stamped and mailed , then they can have their rules and do all the work themselves. SIgh.............Seems to me the one who takes the time out of their life to have a swap for us is the one in charge. It takes a lot of time and effort for one of these and I am sorry you guys have it so hard. And if it is your swap, then the rules are yours and admins. Your swaps are fun and organized. It's the ones who won't follow the rules who ruin it for others. But the other99% will help keep it going.

Everyone have some chocolate....

I agree!!!!!

I want to do some stuff on the top and I KNOW my post office clerks won't let it go through. Whoever gets me is getting it in an envelope!

SuzanneTX, prayers for you mom!!! and hugs for you!!!

candi 10-27-2010 04:31 PM

Well said, Debbie.

Suzanne, I wish your mother in law a speedy recovery. And thanks for hosting the swaps.

LOL we had dinner at church tonight and two of the ladies are mail carriers, and one of them asked me what I've been sewing this week and I told them fabric postcards, with glitter and rhinestones and they laughed at me and said "good luck getting those postmarked" I let them know I would have the postcard hand canceled and them put it in an envelope for actual mailing

I have another favor to ask of those that have finished one -- can you post a pic of the other side ? So I can see what that looks like also - PLEASE

You can glue it or sew it....do a search on google and you will see a TON of them. Some are really simple and some are totally elaborate!!

amma 10-28-2010 01:49 PM

You can use cardstock or fabric for the backs  :D:D:D

Short an Sweet 10-28-2010 01:51 PM

I used the iron on fusible webbing and then stiched around the edges and then just added whatever embellishments I had. Suzanne posted a great website on page 1 on how to make them

I'm thinking about joining this swap (fixing to go try to see if I can do it! LOL!), but have a question.

Are we supposed to send them with the backs blank (no message or address) so that the recipient can use the card as she (or he) wishes* ... or are we supposed to fill in the recipient's address and write a message to her?

(*Obviously that would require sending the postcard in an outer envelope, which I'd planned to do anyway. ;) )

Okay, I made several of them from scraps as practice ... but they're not winter-themed. I'll have to get my Christmas/winter fabric back out to make my actual swap ones.

Here are photos of the non-swap practice ones, though, and the back. :)

Just some non-swap practice postcards from scraps :-)

Love the way you did the back, you can also have the postcard "hand canceled by the post office and them "mail" it in an envelope. That way if someone is collecting postcards with postmarks from around the world, they'll have both

Just a quick not to let everyone know that BonniFeltz is taking over this swap and the secret pal swap.

My mother in law has been diagnosed with terminal cancer of the liver, lungs and bones. She is coming home today on hospice care and I will be her primary care giver. This has to be my number one priority right now along with my husband who is not dealing with this very well (as expected).

I won't be totally gone from the board but my priorites have to be with them at this time.

Thanks for all the enthusiasm ya'll have had for this swap. Have fun with it and I can't wait to see the pictures.

Hi Everybody:

Suzanne is so busy right now that she hasn't given me any information about this swap and the information on who is in or not. I can read the posts to see what this is all about but that would not give me your individual information that you PM'd to Suzanne. Please resend that so I can work on getting this swap going on also. Please put that this is for the postcard swap when you PM me since it appears I am running two swaps for Suzanne. :)

Thanks everybody.

Bonni - I found my bottle of Zoloft - we'll get you through two of these :)

I mailed out several fabric postcards today In an envelope they are $1.29 to mail or you can mail them like they are for regular first class rate and they will hand cancel them for an extra twenty cents. I put them in envelopes and had them put stamp and cancel it on the postcard We(the postal clerk and myself) both thought they would fair better. Here are two that I mailed today

Those are adorable! Thanks for posting the pix. How did you do them? Did you sew them or glue them or a combination? Also what was the back like? did you make it look like a postcard on the back or was it just blank.

Thanks in advance for answering these questions because I haven't made these before.

jayelee 11-04-2010 11:48 AM

two layers of batting with a piece of manilla folder in between to stiffen it glued all together then heat and bonded the fabric to both sides Heatand bonded pieces on top and used pigma pen on back and made it look like a postcard then bound it like a quilt
