"A WOMAN"S FAVORITE THINGS" funky swap... sign up closes August 15th

This swap is everything girls/women love. That means everything like dresses, shoes, purses, candy, cars, bikes, jewelry, animals, hats, drinks, purfume, vacation spots, words, sayings ...Whatever!! You think of something you love and make a block to swap with us! The sign-up will be for sets of blocks in sets of 6 alike blocks. The limit will be 4 sets per swapper. The swap is now open to sign up for all levels of quilters.

PLEASE use ...100 percent good quality cotton fabrics... that are prewashed. I understand that if you are using pre-cuts (jellyrolls, charm packs) may be impossible. Just write a small note and clip to each block to advise the reciever (s). Many fabrics shrink or dyes run... so please do this first step to make our projects something nice after washing and that we can be proud of.

Make your blocks before you sign up for this swap. This makes it easier on you to have them to me on time and takes the pressure off so you can have fun making them.

The signups will close on august 15th and the blocks should be to me by the deadline October 15th or unfortunantly they will have to be returned to you unswapped. Many swappers all make a point of getting thier blocks here on time or even early, so I can't hold them up. Please understand!!

I am happy for you to send them as early as you want. I have a nice big bin to store them until the swap date.

Please send me a pm to sign up for your block sets. I can miss any members trying to let me know they want to sign up on the board swap thread pretty easily.

The finished block size can be any size block divisible by threes. Don't forget the seam allowances!!

Please Note*** the smallest is a 6 inch finished block so the smallest will a 6 1/2 by 6 1/2 Unfinished and so on. (The size of a send- in block will have the half inch seam allowances included ) There hasn't been an interest to do the 3 1/2 inch squares, so we are eliminating them this time. For example...

The sent in unfinished sizes can be , 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 , 6 1/2 x 9 1/2, 6 1/2 x 12 1/2 or the same with the nine or twelve inch sized blocks. The max sized block is 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" .

Please do not send just a cut piece of fabric as a block. It won't count towards your block sets and would have to be returned to you. Remember make something you would like to recieve! There are darling images out there with
girly type things for our blocks! Or what you, yourself love, it could be horses, cars... even quilts. LOL!

* If you wish your blocks to have eyes (or whatever) that are not embroidered on while making the block, please put the beads or whatever the is the embellishment into a small envelope or baggie pinned onto the block. This is a request from past swappers because of the long-arm or machine quilting and breaking needles.

Attach your board name with a small slip of paper to each block with a pin or even staple it to the very edge within the seam allowance. Place the block sets of 6 into large plastic baggie marked with your board name. Some people have used the small sticky address return labels and it works great to stick them on the back side to identify each block. Just add your board name to it.

We will be using any colored backgrounds that would show off your blocks the best. There are many images and blocks available on the web and magazines, or make something up on your own. Embroidery works too! Lets have some fun with this! Just remember, if you are doing applique, you must sew it to the blocks in such a way that it is washable later. You can't just iron it on. We want nice finished quilts... LOL!

*Mail your block sets to me in a priority flat rate envelope addressed to me using only a postage stamp (stamps) on both the return envelope addressed to you. There has been a problem with the post office accepting the pre-metered envelopes, and I would hate to have your envelope held up because of expired postage. So please use a stamp!

Place a self addressed flat rate priority return envelope with the postage stamp (s) attached addressed to yourself inside along with your bagged block sets.

* I will mail the swapped blocks back out to you by October 30th . Or before if all of the blocks come early! You know me girls, once they are here they are swapped and gone... LOL!

Should you have any questions or problems please contact me by pm. Any swapper can opt out if there is a problem with getting the blocks here on time. Life sometimes gets busy and I understand that. Please do not send them to me late. All of the blocks will be gone with nothing left but to send them back to you unswapped. That would be so sad for me and you!

Please read all the general swap rules of the board, these also apply to this swap. They are located on the top of the swap board written by the administration. Or, here is the link ...

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

~~ Now to the fun stuff!! ~~~

I know this quilt could be quite an original from anything we have seen or done before, so lets have some real fun with our blocks! This should be a great swap! And some great friendly, chatty days ahead sharing our blocks.

I will go out and search around for some inspirational images and blocks and post them here on the swap thread off and on. AND... If anyone else runs across any cute ones let us know too. We love to have a little fun looking around and talking about whatever during the swap. JOIN IN... LOL!

I would like to join in and here is a link to the pattern I would like to use: http://blockcentral.com/qb-pattern-purse.shtml

This sounds like fun and I like that I only need to do a set of 6. This one is a 6.5 inch pp block of a purse.
Just curious... would it be possible to do a few sets of this pattern but with very different fabric if I choose to send more than one set? I will PM you with a confirmation that I will join in once I have the blocks done.

RedGarnet222 04-28-2012 08:32 PM

Welcome to the swap hopetoquilt! I will put you down as the first swapper. I am really excited about this one. It promises to be one cute quilt when we are all finished. Don't you think?

That sounds fine to make another set with other fabrics changing it up a bit for your second set. I am gonna go and check out your block now.

I am going to start with a embroidered pink scooter/moped! Not sure if I will use borders on it or not, so I am not sure of my size yet.

RedGarnet222 04-28-2012 08:34 PM

Cute!! Have fun.

Hi everyone nise just joined the swap too! Yeay welcome!

Here is my first set of 9 1/2" blocks. They are pretty high heels embroidered on my machine and then bordered with my favorite color pink! The stripes go sideways on half and up and down on the other. Couldn't make up my mind wich I liked best. LOL!

Difergie 04-29-2012 05:43 PM

Very cute!...

carlene 04-29-2012 07:06 PM

is this swap a one time swap or several times--for how long. i'm totally new to this and am not sure at this time

RedGarnet222 04-30-2012 07:09 AM

Hi Carlene,
This is a one time swap. I know there are other swaps set up differently, but this one ends with the swap out of the blocks in october. :~)

ssnare 04-30-2012 11:15 AM

The purse and shoes are so cute. I will have to think about this one. I have lots of projects going on. Sounds fun.

mdall 04-30-2012 11:44 AM

Sounds like alot of fun. I am going to think about designs. I think I may use this as an opprotunity to try a learn technique since I have plenty of time. Will pm you to enter once blocks are done.

QuilterMomma 04-30-2012 12:32 PM

Sure, I just get caught up with my other blocks for swaps and then you do this to me. Ugggggggggggh. I so want to join, but have to see about time. I am still on that quest of getting my UFOs done for the year. I have to also finish the funky jungle swap and then let my hand heal. I have some ideas already. Will bookmark this and then watch the wonderful blocks some in. I definitely would have to do flowers because those are my favorite thing and I just happen to have some scraps of a fabric I just used for a backing of nothing but flowers. I can't cut yet so I will behave for now.

Havplenty 04-30-2012 01:07 PM

i have a question, if we were to send only one set of 6 blocks that surely would not require a $5+ flat rate shipping fee so would we be able send the blocks & sase in something other than a flat rate envelope (with the appropriate postage of course)?

Hi sherry,
I hope you join in the fun, you make such cute blocks! This swap has plenty of time attached ot it. I did that on purpose so we could have fun making our blocks and not feel pressured.

I know you would have fun with this one quiltermomma! When you are ready, let me know.

Wouldn't you know my embroidery machine began eating needles yesterday. Dang it... Now I have to go and get some more to work on my blocks. :~(

Charlottemarie Has joined the ranks everyone! Welcome to the swap!

Havplenty check your pm's...

QuilterMomma 05-01-2012 10:27 AM

So, if I get to it now, would the Umbrella Girl who has the wonderful old fashioned dresses, be ok to do?

If I get to it now, I have these awesome shoe designs I got that are so cool, they would be great for this.

No, I am talking myself into a committment here, just coming up with ideas I now I have in the house right now on hand that I could use for this if, that is if, I decide to join in the fun again. I suppose I could bring in the embroidery machine to the office and have it going while I am working and when stops change threads, then take it home and do the same. Oh no I don't, no talking myself into this one.

I also have some fun bathtub designs, who would not like a leopard tub for your own. Now every woman wants a bathtub, in a leopard design that is a deep claw tub so you can soak your worries away.

Oh, how about that bottle of wine, for us who enjoy a glass once in awhile with our chocolate.

Or, how about a funky looking sewing machine design? That could be fun.

Ok, I will stop now. My hand is getting sore trying to type all this. Stop brain, stop, stop stop..........

LOL... Quiter momma! I certainly want a leopard bathtub with claw legs. THat sounds SO AweSomE! The other ones sound cool too! Especially a neat sewing machine. It sounds like you are very close to being in! The due date isn't until October... you can do it. Right??

Here is my second 9 1/2" x 9 1/2" set. I love kitties and these little ones just called out to me to make for this swap. Half of one and half the other image. I am so indecisive these days..LOL! Don't you just love the ones playing on the dressing table trying on jewlery? She has on a little crown. My cat sampson used to be into everything that was mine. LOL!

QuilterMomma 05-01-2012 01:25 PM

I am not a cat lover, but if it was my poodle, Cuddles, sitting like that it would be a definite keeper. She used to love being primped. they are cute and they are a keeper. I may get done by October, all depends on those UFOs getting done. GOing to assemble a couple of tops for me?

RedGarnet222 05-01-2012 03:13 PM

I love dogs, although we have never had one, I spoil my neighbor's dogs wherever we have lived and whenever I can. They love me. LOL!

I have a confession to make. I haven't assembled not one of my swap blocks together from any of my swaps yet. I have been too busy with the diabetic charity quilts and doing these swaps (and life in general)! LOL!! I have a signature, patriotic, halloween, winter holidays, the kitchen kapers, and the good ol' summertime block sets to do. LOL!!! They are all in little seperate project drawers waiting for me. That isn't even counting the embroidered blocks I have a huge bin of I have bought and that were given to me. I don't mind them waiting. I have most all of the fabric to make them up, I just need to finish a few more quilts for charity and I will go on them like a bunny.

hopetoquilt 05-01-2012 05:00 PM

I posted the pp'ed purse as my first block, this will be my second block: http://365quiltblocks.blogspot.com/2...ess-dress.html

I will dress it up (pun intended) by using a specially picked fabric.

hopetoquilt 05-01-2012 05:10 PM

thinking about this for the 3rd block... what do you think?

http://www.ilovetocraft.com/quilting/martini.shtml

Love the accuracy of PP'ing and the creativity with doing this type of swap

Robbi24 05-01-2012 06:03 PM

Wow love the shoes, just finished mini pp swap squares, working on graduation gifts now, so should be able to find something to make girlie to swap. More after June, will bookmark for now

RedGarnet222 05-01-2012 06:04 PM

These are so cute! Perfect for the swap.

RedGarnet222 05-04-2012 07:06 AM

What about this idea?Or maybe a Paris design. Just saw them on emblibrary and they are on sale so if you like, I could do Oh no, darn it, that would make me committ. Ah, but there is time to do these in June.

RedGarnet222 05-04-2012 04:53 PM

Love the one you are showing! How cute is that? THere is plenty of time between now and the deadline quiltermomma!

QuilterMomma 05-04-2012 06:32 PM

Did you know that is me in that design? I am blonde and before children I looked that good.

Alright need to decide. I finished first set of blocks and not sure about swapping them. I like them but not sure if anyone else will. I think the color choices I made may be an issue for some. Was hoping to get a few opinions. Swap them or make them in different colors.

RedGarnet222 05-07-2012 06:56 AM

Hmmm... I don't know mdall. The batiks are fabulous, but I kinda think for a flower like this it gets a little muddy. I will leave it up to the other swappers. What do you all think?

QuilterMomma 05-07-2012 07:22 AM

Love the block, use a brighter green and flower top then will be perfect

ssnare 05-07-2012 11:54 AM

I would make different colors.

QuilterMomma 05-07-2012 01:38 PM

So instead of a blonde ssnare, I should make it a red head or a brunette? I haven't decided if I am going to do that one, but shopping is apparently a woman thing.

LOVE that block. Take the plunge! I would love to have a block like that!

ssnare 05-07-2012 07:12 PM

No, I replied to the wrong post. Sorry, I meant to reply to the batik flower block. Keep the blonde.

katvert 05-07-2012 07:51 PM

I love this idea, and hope I can join in... I broke my leg almost 2 months ago and am still not able to put any weight on it or walk for another 3 weeks, per the doctor. I am going to watch this one and when I can stand/walk enough to shop/iron/cut and sew some blocks I will let you all know if I am able to join. Absolutely love all that I have seen so far.

....and QuilterMama I love the block and keep it a blond..... I too looked like that before I had my son, and I love walking (before the broken leg) down Rodeo Drive to kill time before my Doctor appointments in that area. I hope I am able to join the swap just to get one of those.

RedGarnet222 05-07-2012 10:30 PM

I hope you can join in too katvert. I always love your blocks. Please get well soon and be a good patient, ok? You will be thankful when you get older if you are.I too injured my knee (leg) in january and was unable to stand or walk on it. It is still giving me some trouble, but healing. Thank God. It sure was scarey there for a while.

We are hoping this swap has tons of fun swappers with cute blocks. The subject is so cool and something that could be so creatively inspiring!

I was working on my LOVE blocks today. I have the letters all adhered to the individual block backings. Now just to edge stitch them on. I think everyone will like these. They are very cute to me.
