I just joined the board, I have been looking for a quilting home to play at since I am fairly new to quilting. This looks like fun, I am doing another one on flickr, but I am looking around on here and loving this site. I have couple questions before signing up,
1. Can we use any quilting material or does it need to be modern patterns
2. Do all 64 blocks need to be the same
3. I don't have alot of material since I am new to quilting but I have several fat quarters that are white with white design on them, will they work or do I need to make them solid white.
I have to go buy material today for this so I need to know what I need to buy, lol I will be glad when I have a built up stash, having to go buy everything everytime I want to do something stinks, lol guess it will take time to build it!
Thanks for answering my questions in advance

Hello and Welcome to the board
to answer your questions :
1) any 100% cotton will do
2) No the blocks do not all have to have all the same fabric - you can make them scrappy ( means they are all different)
3)White on White will work or solid white -anything that reads a white ( so your fat quarters will work)
Unless of course you want to go shopping and we are your excuse
Just have fun- we are a fun group and easy to get along with

Awesome, thank you I don't want to have to buy a bunch right this moment if possible. I like the feel of not washed fabric, I have heard people use spray starch when ironing it after washing is that true or not? I heard it makes the material a little stiff

I am done! Well I am done sewing now to get my siggy just right! I hate my own handwriting, but will give it my best shot! I used some old scraps and some new scraps.
I read a tip about cutting all your scraps into small pieces and then when you need squares you have all the scraps ready to go. It took my husband and I almost 3 weeks of cutting a little every day to get all the scraps cut, but now it is so nice! My secret is "staying on top of it" LOL

Hi sharon b,
Long time no see. Miss you in the chat room. If you don't have too many sign-ups yet, I'd like to sign up for the Siggie Swap again this year. It's always a fun swap to do. If you need any information from me, please let me know. Thanks ever so much.

You might also try the Mary Ellen's Best Press... but test the smells out first. I find that anything other than the no-scent or the cherry blossom makes my sneeze, eyes water, nose running, etc. It's kind of gross. But it's a very reasonable cost (usually $9-10 a bottle) and doesn't gunk up or flake if you over-spray. And if you get a scented spray, it makes the rest of your house smell awesome at the same time!
