Costco Project Center
I stopped at Costco today and spotted a unit in the furniture section called a project center for $199. It is dark wood with "bookcases" for the base. It was really heavy and well built. We were running late so I didn't take time to investigate further, but it looks great. The wood top was maybe 3 feet by 4 feet, but I'm just guessing and am dimension challenged. Am definitely going back for another look.

I think this is it - measures 60W X 35.8 D and 37 H. Looks great!

I am NOT a fan of MDF, which is what this unit is made of. I like plywood and real, solid wood. In my experience, MDF disintegrates at the construction joints with very little provocation. Currently, I have a gorgeous looking cedar chest that I picked up on FreeCycle that has a "loose joint" problem, aka. the back is not connected to the front any longer, since the locking mechanism separated the tiny pieces of wood that are glued together to create "MDF". I am on the lookout for some sort of brace to slip over the back/side pieces so I can glue the thing back together. Look fabulous, just not structurally sound.

Yes this is the unit. Thanks for posting the website. I agree re. manufactured wood. Have several bookcases which DH took extra time securing the fasteners and braced the back. They are holding up well. This unit is really heavy and I wish I had seen it before I jury rigged my cutting table.
